Chapter 22 Sleeping Together Again

Chapter 22 Sleeping Together Again

After working all night, Chu Ran had moved all the things in the yard that were afraid of being exposed to the rain into the house.

He stood in the corridor for a while, looked up at the sky covered with dark clouds, turned around and was about to go into the house. Chu Ran vaguely saw two dark figures, one tall and one short, standing at the gate of the courtyard.

Chu Ran narrowed his eyes subconsciously. Soon, the two people at the door walked into the yard one after another. When they were about to reach Chu Ran, Chu Ran finally recognized them, so he stepped down the stairs and walked over quickly.

Li Fu held a thin summer quilt in his hand, and his dark eyes stared at Chu Ran calmly. Chu Ran opened his mouth, but before he could say anything, Li Fu explained, "My house is leaking, so I came over to your place to squeeze in."

Chu Ran nodded quickly, "Okay, okay."

Li Fu entered the house first, followed by Xing Ji, dragging a large wooden box behind him.

"What is this?" Chu Ran asked, looking at the wooden box that Xing Ji was dragging behind him, "Is it clothes?"

Li Fu put the quilt on Chu Ran's bed. He turned his head and took a look. He said, "This is the book my mother left for me." After a pause, he said, "It should rain tonight."

Chu Ran understood what Li Fu meant. He was worried that the books would be damaged by the rain. However, the house was not very big, and Uncle Xing didn't know where to put such a big box.

Chu Ran then pointed to the closet and said, "There's room next to the closet, just put it next to it."

Uncle Xing put the box away and asked Li Fu if there was anything else he needed to do. Li Fu said it was too late and he would do the rest tomorrow. Uncle Xing nodded and left.

A month had passed since the last time two people squeezed into one bed. Although Chu Ran had gotten used to sleeping alone in a bed during this period, he still felt inexplicably excited when Li Fu suddenly came over to share a bed with him.

He walked to the bookcase, squatted down, and asked Li Fu: "Can I see your book?"

By the time Li Fu nodded and said yes, Chu Ran had already opened the box.

There was a whole box filled with books.

During the day, Chu Ran had to work, and when he came back, Li Fu and the old lady would sometimes accompany him, so Chu Ran always felt that the day passed quickly. But at night, especially when Chu Ran was alone, he would begin to feel lonely and bored.

When he was bored, Chu Ran would find something to pass the time, such as washing clothes or cleaning the house. If there was really nothing to do, he would go to bed early.

Although Chu Ran was also afraid of heat, he was more afraid of being alone, so he preferred to be with Li Fu. There were several times when Chu Ran wanted to squeeze in with Li Fu, but because he didn't want to cause trouble for Li Fu, he held back and didn't say anything.

But now it was different. It was Li Fu who wanted to come here, not Chu Ran who asked him to. Although it was only temporary, it was enough to make Chu Ran excited.

He flipped through the books in the bookcase, thinking he could find some interesting books to read, but after flipping through them, Chu Ran had no interest in reading just by looking at the titles.

Finally, Chu Ran picked up a book at random, opened it and read two pages. Not only were there unfamiliar characters everywhere that Chu Ran was not familiar with, but it was also all written in classical Chinese. Chu Ran was most afraid of classical Chinese, so he quickly stuffed the book back into the bookcase.

While Chu Ran was looking for a book, Li Fu was sitting on the edge of the bed. His foot suddenly kicked something. With a "dong" sound, Li Fu bent down and picked up the thing he kicked from the ground.

"What is this?" Li Fu asked, holding up the wood in his hand.

It looks like an ordinary piece of wood, but there are some knife marks on it, but it is hard to tell what it is.

Chu Ran didn't find any interesting books, so he closed the bookcase again, stood up and walked towards Li Fu.

"You mean this? This was left by the old eunuch. He said it was a wood carving. He carved this every day when he had nothing to do. Can you tell what he carved?"

Li Fu took a closer look at it and shook his head honestly, "What is it?"

"He said it was a teapot. How does it look like a teapot? I can't tell."

Li Fu said: "Maybe it's not carved yet, so it's hard to see."

“I think so.”

Chu Ran stood by the bed, making the bed while saying to Li Fu, "Put it on the table after you finish reading it. Don't lose it. The old lady supervisor has a bad temper. If she knew her things were lost, she would definitely get angry."

Li Fu didn't say anything, but casually placed the unfinished "wood carving" in his hand on the cabinet beside him.

There was a loud thunder outside, and in an instant, heavy rain poured down.

Li Fu walked over and closed the door tightly. Chu Ran had already made the bed. The two of them lay down on the bed one after another and covered themselves with the quilt.

The rain outside the window was rustling, as if there was a big hole in the sky, and the rain was leaking down from the hole in the sky. The heavy rain was accompanied by thunder, and from time to time there was lightning across the night sky, tearing the dark sky in half.

There were lightning and thunder outside, and a thunderstorm was raging. The house was pitch black, but Chu Ran's heart was peaceful and calm.

He felt that he would definitely get a good night's sleep tonight.

The heavy rain lasted all night and continued until the next day, but the heavy rain from last night turned into a drizzle.

Originally, Chu Ran planned to go to Li Fu's residence with Li Fu, but because it rained almost the entire day, they did not go. It was not until the evening when the rain finally stopped that Chu Ran and Li Fu went for a visit.

As soon as he entered the side hall, Chu Ran was so shocked by the horrific scene in the house that was destroyed by wind and rain that his jaw almost dropped.

The ground was full of flowing sewage and mud. The two stools and a table in the hall had fallen into the mud. Because the leak was right next to the bed, the bed was soaked by the rain. The thick mattress on it had not been removed in time, and the broken branches and leaves mixed with the mud and water. It was now dirty and could not be used anymore.

Chu Ran raised his head and looked at the big hole on the roof that was leaking air.

Last night, when Li Fu said that his roof was leaking, Chu Ran naturally thought that it was just a small leak, but he never thought that there would be such a big hole?!

How can people live here in such a state?

Chu Ran couldn't help but look at Li Fu. "Why didn't you tell me earlier that the roof was leaking like this last night? If you had told me in advance, I could have helped you fix it. No matter what, it wouldn't have become like this. Now how can we live here?"

Li Fu pursed his lips, hesitated for a while, and then said, "I forgot."
