Chapter 10 Lin Yu's Childhood

Before that.

Before Wei Min and Lin Dongcheng noticed anything unusual about the child.

He said.

There was a young man in a blue shirt sitting in a tree at the entrance of the village. He was taller than the boy and would push the children who climbed up the tree down.

That same day, Huang's fourth child fell from that tree and broke his leg. He can barely walk now.

He added.

Uncle Wang had a little sister who was the same age as him on his back. She was wearing a green dress and had her hair in a braid. Her arms were wrapped around Uncle Wang's neck, which is why Uncle Wang kept coughing.

My sister said Uncle Wang doesn't like her, but she doesn't want to leave her father.

He added.

At the foot of the mountain, by the path, on that big rock, as soon as the sun goes down, there's always a woman in white sitting there. She has long, white hair and is very pretty.

But he didn't understand why the older sister was always crying.

When he passed by, he asked his sister why she was crying. His sister said that she was waiting for someone, and that the person she was waiting for would come back.

"But none of this is Lin Yu's fault," 001 said.

Yes, actually none of this is Lin Yu's fault.

However.

Humans are naturally inclined to seek advantage and avoid harm, especially unknown dangers and deep-seated guilt, which can be even more frightening.

Uncle Zhao kicked and broke the paper toy that the little girl in the gray clothes had given her by her family in front of her grave, which is why the little girl kept pestering him to play with her.

The young man in the blue shirt is the hanged ghost in that tree; he can't leave that tree.

He was the older brother of Huang Xiaosi, the second son of the Huang family, whom he had chased down from the tree…

The girl in the green dress on Uncle Wang's back was his daughter. But he favored boys over girls and treated his daughter very badly when he was alive. The girl even died because of his deliberate neglect.

So the girl remained fixated on him and continued to follow him.

The woman in white sitting on the stone on the path was indeed waiting for someone—the man who had sworn eternal love to her and vowed to marry no one but her. But he never returned…

Young Lin Yu didn't understand why everyone looked at him with fear, as if he were a monster, when he was simply stating some facts.

He didn't understand.

Because behind the facts he presented lay the guilty conscience of some people.

What they fear is that what they hide deep within their hearts will be exposed to others.

Four-year-old Lin Yu watched a newlywed couple delivering wedding candy door-to-door outside the gate. He curiously peeked out and looked at the young people talking to their parents outside the fence.

The man was in his early twenties, dressed festively, handsome, with neatly combed hair, and always smiling.

The woman next to her was the same age, wearing a red dress, her hair tied up, and wearing a brightly colored flower. She looked at the man beside her and smiled happily.

"I never expected that Pengyang, you went to university in the city and stayed for three or four years, and when you came back you had already accomplished this major life event."

Wei Min smiled as she accepted the wedding candy, watching Lin Dongcheng exchange pleasantries with the newlyweds.

Who would have thought that the 18-year-old boy from back then would be back with his wife today? I heard they were classmates and got married in the city right after graduation.

I came back today specifically to hold a banquet.

"Brother Lin, remember to come to my house for the banquet with your wife tomorrow."

Watching the newlyweds leave, Lin Dongcheng and Wei Min, holding wedding candies, also smiled and went back into the house.

At night, under the dim light, Wei Min sat on the edge of the bed, mending Lin Dongcheng's torn clothes.

By the flickering candlelight, she sewed it stitch by stitch.

Lin Dongcheng, shirtless, leaned over and glanced at the fine stitches: "That's good enough. There will be a lot of people tomorrow, so no one will look closely."

People at that time didn't have many clothes throughout the year; enough to change into was good enough. Everyone was busy making a living, and it was considered good if they didn't have to worry about making a living.

As she finished the last stitch, Wei Min used her teeth to bite through the thread, shook out the fabric to check, and after confirming it wasn't noticeable, she put it aside.

In the darkness after the lamp was blown out, a woman's voice sounded like a sigh: "Alas, I really didn't expect this. It's just a pity for that girl from the Qin family."

The crackling of firecrackers echoed throughout the village, sending red paper decorations flying everywhere.

The small, festive house was decorated with bright red silk ribbons hanging inside and outside, and the windows and doors were covered with exquisite red paper-cut characters.

Villagers, carrying gifts and leading their children, gradually entered the courtyard, each with a smile on their face.

But they couldn't find the groom anywhere.

"Pengyang, Pengyang is at the foot of Lishan Mountain! Uncle Peng, you should go and take a look!"

The young man who spoke looked anxious, yet hesitated to speak.

Lishan is the mountain on which the villagers depend for their livelihood.

Gathering firewood, hunting, digging for medicinal herbs—the village relied on the mountain for its livelihood. It could be said that this mountain sustained the village.

Seeing this, everyone followed behind Peng's father and the bride, and the group arrived at the foot of the mountain.

Peng Yang was covered in blood, still wearing the clothes he wore yesterday when he delivered wedding candy. His clothes were dirty and messy, and his hair was covered in twigs and grass clippings.

Upon closer inspection, I saw that his face and body were covered in scratches and cuts.

Blood was everywhere.

He rolled down the mountain.

It rolled down next to that big rock.

Peng's father fainted, and the bride, pale-faced and unsteady on her feet, was supported by the crowd.

Lin Yu felt Wei Min tighten her grip on his hand, making him feel a little uncomfortable. Standing at the back, they could only learn about the situation from the murmurs and chatter in front.

Lin Yu was picked up and leaned on Lin Dongcheng's shoulder. As they walked back, he saw the sister who was always crying again.
