Chapter 204 Silver Snake
The afterglow of the setting sun shines on the stone walls of the castle, giving them a golden glow.
Together, two ten-year-old children pushed open the heavy door and entered the castle. They were greeted by a long corridor, its walls covered in paintings and tapestries. However, the colors of the paintings had faded, and the lines of the tapestries were blurred, as if everything was covered in dust. At the end of the corridor was a huge glass window. The scenery outside, illuminated by the setting sun, was dreamlike, but the windowpane was covered in cracks, as if it would shatter at any moment.
The girl timidly grabbed the boy's clothes. She held a lamp and whispered, "Brother, why don't we go back? Dad doesn't let us run around."
The boy put his index finger to his lips, his light golden eyes filled with seriousness and nervousness. "Keep your voice down, Lilia. Don't you want to see your mother?"
Lilia clenched the lamp in her hand, her big doll-like eyes flickering with tears: "I want to see you."
Harveys held his sister's hand and whispered as they walked, "I don't care how my godfather punishes me. I must see my mother today. Besides, my father and godfather are no longer good brothers. He won't watch me being punished by my godfather."
The two walked together through the long corridor. The dark and quiet atmosphere was chilling. After all, they were still two half-grown children, and it was inevitable that they would be afraid in this gloomy castle.
They walked up the spiral staircase, passed the magnificent banquet hall, and went to the top floor.
Harvis heard servants in the royal court mention this place, saying that a queen named Daisy once lived here. They also said that his godfather rebuilt this place for his mother.
Lilia held up the lamp and looked for the direction. She asked, "Brother, are you sure Mom is here?"
Harveys nodded. "My servants saw with their own eyes that Godfather went into the top floor every night and came out the next morning."
"Then how can we be sure that he is going to see his mother?"
"Because his eyes are red every morning when he comes out."
My father and godfather had an argument for some unknown reason and even beat each other. After that, godfather ordered people to expel my father and never let him enter the imperial court again.
Harveys clenched his fists. He held Lilia's hand and saw that his sister's face, which looked very much like their mother, was full of confusion. So he said, "Do you know why Dad always holds you in his arms and stares blankly?"
The tip of Lilia's nose was a little red. She said, "Because Daddy misses Mommy."
Harveys nodded and said, "Don't cry, Lilia. We must find mom for dad today."
Harvey had seen Luka sitting alone late at night several times.
In his impression, his father's shoulders were so broad, like a mountain, as if no difficulty in the stars could defeat him. His father's figure was so tall that he would let Lilia ride on his shoulders and take them to see the stars.
But after Mom left, Dad's shoulders always slumped. He rarely spoke, withheld company. His hair, once meticulously combed, now lay dishevelled. Scars appeared on his arms, the deepest at his wrist, the most hideous, like a centipede. From his wrist to his elbow, a dense, crisscross pattern of scars stretched across his flesh.
Harveys asked Bonnie who was responsible for his father's injury.
Bonnie lowered his eyes in frustration and said, "It was Dad himself."
The two children finally found the entrance to the top floor. Stepping inside, they discovered a dazzling aura of light, a stark contrast to the desolate interior of the castle. The center of the hall was covered with a thick, red velvet carpet, as soft as clouds. On either side of the carpet were ornate golden railings, intricately carved with patterns and designs, gleaming with a metallic luster. Massive marble columns surrounded the hall, each one intricately carved with patterns and designs. Their caps were adorned with golden statues, as if silently guarding the palace's glory.
Lilia was shocked by this magnificent scene. She grew up in the imperial court and was raised like a little princess by everyone in the court. She had seen many good things, but even so, she had never experienced such a luxurious palace.
Havis trotted around to the gilded glass window of the inner hall and gestured to Lilia. Lilia hurried over, and Havis let her step on his shoulders and lifted her up high.
Lilia leaned on the windowsill and looked inside. She saw that the decoration inside was even more gorgeous than the outside. It was surrounded by gorgeous silk curtains, which were embroidered with gold thread and depicted intricate patterns, like a series of gorgeous paintings.
Her sight struggled to penetrate the curtains and saw a huge crystal coffin. Just as she was about to stand on tiptoe to see the person lying inside, Harveys collapsed to the ground, and Lilia fell on him.
"Is Mom in there?"
Lilia said uncertainly, "I didn't see clearly, but Uncle Liberi isn't in there. Why don't we sneak in and take a look?"
Havis nodded, helped Lilia up, and pulled her quietly into the inner hall.
As soon as the two of them came in, they felt like they had entered an ice cellar.
Lilia hugged her shoulders and shivered.
"Brother, why is it so cold here? Mom won't be in here. She will catch a cold."
Harveys was no longer the playful child he had been a few years ago. He vaguely knew something, but he hadn't told Lilia. He walked silently and cautiously towards the crystal coffin, with Lilia following closely behind.
The two walked up the stairs and finally saw the person lying inside.
Her long hair cascaded down like a waterfall, soft, smooth, and shimmering. Her face was as white as snow, with delicate features. Her eyes were gently closed, as if she were lost in a dream. Her lips were as soft as rose petals, with a hint of natural redness.
"It's Mom!" Lilia shouted excitedly.
She saw her mother's hands folded across her chest, her fingertips slender and long. She was dressed in a rich silk dress. She was surrounded by heavy velvet curtains, embroidered with gold thread, depicting intricate flowers and vines. The room was filled with a faint floral fragrance, as if wafting from her dreams, filling the space with a sense of peace and tranquility.
Lilia wanted to rush over and hug her tightly, but the next second, a silver snake appeared from nowhere, opening its bloody mouth and baring its fangs at her.
Havis immediately stood in front of Lilia, and the two children fell to the ground. Fortunately, the snake didn't really want to bite them to death, it just wanted to scare them.
The silver snake swam in the crystal coffin, and its vertical pupils issued a warning. The surroundings immediately fell into an irresistible mental pressure. Neither Havis nor Lilia could bear this pressure.
Havis decisively took Lilia's hand and ran out of the hall. Suddenly, the pressure dissipated.
"Brother, who was that just now?"
"I saw him once when I was a kid." Harveys looked into the hall with a complicated look. Although he had never seen the man in his beast form, he remembered his mental strength and aura. "So he has been guarding my mother all this time..."
