Chapter 89: Estrangement
She had never smiled like this in front of him before.
Zong Fang adjusted his breathing, reached out to hold the door handle, but hesitated to open it. After a long time, his hand slowly let go of the door handle and dropped it again.
He was afraid of seeing something he didn't want to see, and he was also afraid of doing something that would hurt their feelings out of jealousy.
Zong Fang suppressed his wild thoughts and took a few steps back until his back touched the cold wall. The man leaned against the wall, tilting his head back and closing his eyes in annoyance, but he could still clearly hear the conversation in the room. He just stood there in the deserted corridor, hesitant to go in.
In the VIP room, Qiao Susu was chatting with great interest and did not notice the movement at the door. However, Lan Ze turned his head slightly at the first moment, and his mental power spread out like a wave towards the door. Sensing that Zong Fang was outside, he retreated back.
"Lan Ze, what's wrong?"
The young man smiled nonchalantly and said, "I was wondering if you were thirsty."
"You didn't realize it until you told me. Wait a minute, I'll ask someone to get us two cups."
As Qiao Susu said this, she stood up and walked towards the door, but Lan Ze grabbed her wrist.
"Sui Sui, is he good to you?"
"Hmm? You mean Munakata?"
She didn't know why Lan Ze suddenly brought this up, but in front of Lan Ze, Qiao Sui Sui was not as defensive as in front of others, so she said without thinking: "Zong Fang is very nice to me now."
Lan Ze's mouth stiffened for a moment, but he still kept smiling and asked again: "Will you stay with him forever?"
This time Qiao Susu hesitated.
After a long while, he said, "No."
Because she would eventually return to her own world, she could only decide how long she stayed here. She couldn't stay with Munakata, Ruka, or Liberi forever, which was why she didn't want to mate with any male in this world. She felt that mateship was a formality, a true commitment. If she were to leave one day, what would happen to the people she left behind?
Lan Ze casually 'looked' towards the door, then smiled and said, "You must be thirsty. I'll get you some water."
He opened the door and saw that the corridor was empty. There was a pair of flat shoes placed against the wall opposite. Lan Ze walked out and closed the door, then picked up the shoes and placed them in the pot of green plants in the corner. Finally, he called the servant to bring a glass of warm water and returned to the VIP room.
The two talked for a while, and it was getting late, so Lan Ze offered to take Qiao Susu home.
"Don't bother. Munakata and I are here together. I'll go find him."
"Yeah." Lan Ze lowered his eyes, his smile faded a little, and he didn't say anything more.
When Qiao Susu went downstairs, she saw that the banquet was not over yet and many people were still chatting enthusiastically. She looked around the venue but didn't see Zong Fang, so she randomly grabbed a servant and asked.
"Dr. Munakata? Someone just saw him leave."
Qiao Suisui thought she had misheard, "Leaving alone?"
"It seems so. He left without saying anything. Someone came to toast him but he grabbed their neck and threw them to the ground. That person was very offended and threatened to deal with him."
Qiao Susu frowned when she heard that and wanted to go out to find him, but was gently pulled back by Lan Ze beside her.
"He's angry now. Will it be okay if you go over there?"
"He shouldn't do that to me." Qiao Susu suddenly remembered that when Zong Fang was angry before, he either forced her to stay in bed or locked her up. She couldn't help but hesitate.
Lan Ze said again: "How about this, Sui Sui, I'll go find him for you. You're tired today, why don't you just go back and wait for him? Maybe he's already gone back."
She thought about it and it made sense. She smiled at Lan Ze apologetically and said, "Why should I bother you with something like this? He treated you like that last time."
Lan Ze laughed and shook his head. He pinched her nose and said, "If you are so polite to me, it will make me sad, Sui Sui."
"And I can understand the situation last time. He couldn't control his emotions, and I don't think he did it on purpose."
Qiao Suisui felt that this was both right and wrong. She felt something was amiss, but she couldn't put her finger on it. Looking at Lan Ze's innocent smile, she felt she must be overthinking things. So she boarded Lan Ze's flying ship and asked the pilot to take her back to Sote.
Behind the venue was an empty terrace. The noise inside was in stark contrast to the silence outside. Zong Fang walked to the lounge chair on the terrace, looked at it expressionlessly for a while, and then kicked over the chair.
His coat had been thrown somewhere, and the sleeves of his shirt were casually rolled up, with the collar open. The close-fitting cut outlined his chest line very clearly, making him look vaguely sexy under the dim light.
The man stroked his hair in annoyance, feeling a stuffy feeling stuck in his chest, neither going up nor down.
There were slow and steady footsteps behind him. Zong Fang turned back coldly and saw a young man with short dark blue hair walking out of the darkness.
"Do you think I really don't dare to kill you?"
Lan Ze's hollow eyes showed a hint of mockery, "If you touch me, you and her are done."
Zong Fang clenched his back teeth and clenched them into fists, his eyes filled with sharp murderous intent.
He was right. Zong Fang knew it well. Qiao Sui Sui had been unwilling to accept him because of his violent side, which made her feel insecure. Now that their relationship had just warmed up, Lan Ze's appearance was really not at the right time.
Zong Fang smiled grimly and said, "Do you think I'll fall for your tricks if you play some tricks behind my back? You want to get involved, but don't you consider your own strength first? What can you give her? Does she need you? It's nothing more than a verbal engagement. She has no such thoughts about you at all."
Facing Zongfang's imposing questioning, Lan Ze smiled slightly and said only one sentence, which made Zongfang's pupils shrink suddenly and his expression became very ugly.
-
Soter.
Qiao Suisui lit a single, soft floor lamp. She sat on the dining table, still dressed, waiting for Zong Fang to come home. Later, her buttocks grew sore from sitting so much, she curled up on the sofa, her hair spread across the couch, some even dragging on the floor. She was completely unaware, feeling groggy and sleepy, tears streaming down her face.
Finally, after an unknown amount of time, the door opened. Qiao Susu jumped up from the sofa like a startled rabbit and walked quickly to the entrance.
"Where have you been? Why did you leave without saying anything?"
Zong Fang lowered his head to change his shoes. He didn't respond to her. He glanced at the champagne-colored high heels on her feet, and the depth in his eyes froze into ice.
"Why aren't you sleeping yet?"
When Qiao Susu saw his reaction, she was stunned for a moment, feeling as if a basin of cold water had been poured over her head.
"Oh, I'll go to sleep now."
Zong Fang hummed, then walked past her and headed towards the studio. After walking a few steps, he stopped again, and the two of them stood back to back in the huge house.
"Go to bed early. I have a report to write tonight."
After saying that, the man entered the studio. Qiao Suisui was still standing at the entrance, dazed, long after the door closed.
