Chapter 21 Waiting for You to Get Pregnant with Me
Hearing the shout, the man turned around.
Isabel saw the pair of shallow eyes she had been longing for, which were usually as clear as amber, but now they were as cold as ice arrows.
"Are your injuries healed?" She shyly stepped forward to start a conversation. Just as she was about to put her arm around his, Luka dodged it, leaving her hand awkwardly frozen in mid-air.
Isabel was stunned. Although Luka had been lukewarm towards her in the past, he had never been so distant and cold.
"I'm fine. I've asked the Sun to move the ceremony forward."
Isabel's heart, which had just settled down, was lifted high again. She pretended to say, "You really are in a hurry. It doesn't matter if it's late."
"Your Highness, stop doing unnecessary things." Luka interrupted her, his expression cold and his eyes sharp. "Otherwise, I will do whatever it takes..."
Meanwhile, in the Soter Republic, the Center for Ancient Human Research.
Zong Fang was sitting on the sofa holding Qiao Susu. At the moment, he seemed to be browsing a report, but in fact, his attention was on the girl in his arms.
Today, he received an invitation. It was a paper-thin, self-contained electronic screen that displayed a scrolling display of photos of Luca and Isabel from childhood to adulthood, along with the ceremony's location and time. Ever since they'd grown close, he'd had many suspicions about their relationship, and now was the perfect opportunity to test her.
Qiao Susu took the invitation and looked at it very carefully.
Her feelings were mixed. Although she knew this day would come, she hadn't expected it to happen so soon. She was still pregnant with his child, yet he was 'marrying' someone else. Thinking of this, she subconsciously reached out and touched her round belly.
Zongfang saw her movements, hugged her from behind, and stroked her pregnant belly with his big hands.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
She shook her head, yawned, and pretended to be nonchalant, saying, "I'm just thinking about what gift to give."
Zongfang snatched the invitation from her hand and threw it aside, kissing her ear and asking, "Do you mind?"
"What do you mind?"
Zongfang stopped his intimate behavior and looked at him calmly and suspiciously.
"He had a child with you, but now he has to become the mate of another female. Do you really not care at all?"
She lowered her eyes and remained silent. She didn't show any reaction on the surface, but her mind was actually working very fast.
Seeing her with her head down and silent, the man thought she was sad, and his expression immediately turned cold. He pinched her chin with his hand and forced her to look up.
"Scoses can't beat me, how about I help you tie him up?" Zongfang took off his glasses, his narrow, almond-shaped eyes half-smiled, and he looked good-tempered. "You're about to give birth, so you probably want to see him, right?"
Qiao Suisui's heart was filled with alarm. The softer this man smiled, the angrier he was.
Her eyelids were still drooping, expressionless, with a hint of sadness at the corners of her eyes. She said coldly, "Okay. Go and bring him here now."
Zongfang grabbed her neck, a hint of anger on his face. "Do you really want him to be by your side?"
Qiao Sui Sui didn't resist, didn't even look at him, and just cried silently. Zong Fang looked at her reaction, frowned slightly, and couldn't help but soften the strength in his hands.
"Why are you crying? I tied him up and brought him here, and you're not satisfied?"
After saying that, Qiao Susu cried even harder, tears streaming down like beads from a broken string. She bit her lower lip, and the tip of her nose was red, which made people want to bully her but also made people feel soft-hearted.
"I was drugged with an aphrodisiac when I was being auctioned, and when I woke up I found myself in his palace. If you hadn't brought me back, I wouldn't even know I was pregnant." Qiao Susu choked as if she couldn't continue.
"Did he force you?" Zong Fang asked with a frown.
She didn't answer, but just cried silently.
Not a single word of these words was false, because Zong Fang was suspicious and perceptive. Lying in front of him, no matter how realistically it was acted, would be easily exposed. So Qiao Susu only told the truth, but she selectively said part of it and concealed the other part.
The weapon of a high-level liar is sincerity.
Zong Fang hugged her, letting her head rest on his shoulder, and gently stroked her head with his hand. His voice had slowed down now, not as deliberate as before, and there was no anger.
"I don't know this. You should have told me. Qiao Qiao, it's my fault."
She pounded his chest lightly, tears welling in her eyes, a look of both anger and resentment. "I've already said this before, this child is mine alone, and has nothing to do with anyone else."
Zong Fang hugged her and comforted her distressedly, never mentioning Luka again. Qiao Sui Sui buried her head in his shoulder, her eyes, which had just been red from crying, now calm.
The invitation card thrown on the ground was still showing photos. When Qiao Susu saw one of them, her eyes suddenly flashed.
The photo was of a romantically decorated venue, which seemed to be used for a ceremony. What caught Susu's attention was the word GG written with flowers in the corner of the photo.
On the day they went to the Royal Hospital, Liberi later asked what the health bar was, and she briefly explained a few popular gaming terms. "GG" originally meant "the loser surrenders," and it later became a derisive term used on the public screen. Because popular terms weren't recorded in ancient human languages, Zong Fang hadn't noticed. It was a code in this world, known only to her and Liberi.
Qiao Suisui realized that Liberi was hinting at her in this covert way.
She lowered her eyes to hide her thoughts. After a while, she straightened up from the man's arms, looked at him with red eyes and asked, "Do you dislike the baby in my belly?"
Zongfang stroked her hair and was rarely silent.
"If you really dislike me, then why not just send me back to Scorsese."
"You're dreaming."
Zongfang put his arms around her and held her waist tightly with his big hands.
"No male will raise another male's child, and this is especially true for social beastmen like lions. Once they discover that their cubs have the scent of another male, they will at best exile them, or at worst bite them to death."
She was quite surprised and asked, "Even though liveborn cubs are so rare and precious nowadays, would they still do this?"
"The Scorsese family is an inheritance system, passed down from one generation to the next. They will never allow any uncertainty in their bloodline. I'm a snake beastman, I like to be alone, and I don't have so many rules. I can raise his children for you, but that means they will lose the chance to return to the family forever, which is the cruelest thing for a lion."
After hearing this, Sui Sui was a little surprised. She didn't expect that Zong Fang, who was always cold and domineering, would consider the cubs so long-term.
Zongfang kissed her between the eyebrows and the corners of her eyes, and said softly: "Qiao Qiao, you don't have to worry about this kind of thing, just focus on giving birth. I will take care of it."
"How to solve it?"
"If you want to raise us, then do so. How can I not raise a few cubs? As for whether they will return to the tribe when they grow up, let them decide for themselves."
Well, a little bit of fatherly love but not much.
Qiao Suisui said, "What if I don't want to keep them around?"
Zong Fang's beautiful almond-shaped eyes twinkled, and when he heard her have this idea, a slight joy rose in his eyes.
"Then I'll pack them up and throw them back to Osland."
He buried his head in her neck and smelled that familiar scent. He couldn't help but feel calm inside, and even his chest was filled.
"Qiao Qiao, when you get pregnant with mine, we'll raise it together."
