Chapter 6 The Princess's Consort

Chapter 6 The Princess's Consort

In a blink of an eye, Qiao Susu had lived in Legao Palace for a month.

Liberi came every day, using the excuse of monitoring her health as a pretext to stay and increase the time he spent with her. But Sui Sui was reluctant to let him examine her, fearing that she was not an orc. Fortunately, Liberi was very polite and obeyed her every word.

But their progress was always erratic. She could sense Liberi's affection and attentiveness for her, but he never took the initiative to advance the relationship. Beneath his caring and gentle exterior, he concealed a subtle scrutiny of her. Often, he was like a donkey with a carrot tied to its front, dangling her forward.

No one has ever been naive, and Qiao Suisui is no donkey. She may appear delicate and easy to manipulate, but in reality, she's a sophisticated and self-serving person. There's no other way; the first eighteen years of her life have already taught her how to survive. Not fighting? A joke. Not fighting means being flattened, rounded, and eaten. A child without an umbrella can only run.

She relied on her intuition to judge that under the unruly appearance of Liberi, there was a very conservative heart. Therefore, if she wanted to win him over, she might have to change her approach.

Luka never showed up again after that day. Occasionally, when he bumped into her in another palace, he would just nod slightly and pass by her.

The rest of the time, she would take the initiative to chat with the male servants in the Legault Palace, sharing with them some of the high-end daily supplies that were only provided to her. In addition, her harmless appearance and smile quickly captured the hearts of the male servants.

"The princess and our master should be having the ceremony soon. I heard it will be this month."

"The princess has always loved sticking to her master since she was little, but after that incident, the two of them became a little distant."

"Is it because of that incident?" a servant whispered. "Not long after the master returned from the battlefield, he was diagnosed with... well, the princess came to visit, and they seemed to have a big argument. The princess ran away crying, and the two of them didn't speak to each other for a long time."

Qiao Susu listened quietly to their gossip, occasionally interrupting to get more information.

"Colonel Scorsese must be quite remarkable to be chosen by the princess as her spouse."

Another servant immediately said proudly, "Of course. Our master is the youngest colonel in the military. With his inherited family talent, he's unrivaled in the empire. If I were to ask you, your master is infinitely superior to the princess's other sixteen consorts."

"How many???" she almost choked.

"Sixteen, oh, including our master, that makes seventeen. That's quite a few."

She is too narrow-minded.

"Miss Sui Sui, don't be sad. You're so beautiful and have such a good personality. There must be many males vying to be your mate," a male servant encouraged her. He had seen his master carrying the little female in that day, and the two of them were in a passionate relationship. Now everyone was talking about the master and the princess in front of her, and he thought Qiao Sui Sui would be unhappy.

"Yes. It would have been nice if the master had met you earlier."

"That's right, I've been here for so long, and I've never seen the master bring anyone back on his own initiative. Even the princess always has to ask the king to come and stay for a while before the master will prepare... I mean..."

After a male servant finished speaking, he realized that what he said was not right, and he hesitated to make amends. After all, no one wanted to offend the princess, but they also didn't want to make this little female sad.

Qiao Suisui was a little embarrassed and didn't want the gossip to spread any further, so she said, "There's nothing between the colonel and me. He saved me and I'm very grateful. When I heard you talk about him and the princess, I thought they were a good match. I hope they'll be happy."

Although these were just polite words, she still felt a little suffocated, but she didn't show it on her face.

"Can you please do me a favor? Please help me sort all this out. I need to go back to my room first."

"Is it okay? This is all very expensive nutrient solution!"

“This flavor is new!”

After confirming with Sui Sui again and again, they finally accepted it with gratitude.

"You're welcome. I was really upset that I couldn't finish the food. I also want to thank you for helping me." She said with a smile.

In reality, her daily nutrient solution was carefully formulated and provided according to her required intake, so there was no such thing as not being able to finish it. She felt that directly offering them a gift would burden them, so she said she couldn't finish it. Plus, she didn't particularly enjoy the nutrient solution. After a month here, she terribly missed her beef noodles, egg fried rice, steamed willow leaf dumplings, and spicy crayfish, but she kept it to herself. She was afraid of causing trouble for anyone. There were many things she wasn't used to here, but she silently accepted them all, never asking for anything.

Qiao Susu was about to leave, but when she turned around, she saw a tall figure standing ten steps away from her.

Orcs have sensitive hearing. When Luka arrived, he heard them talking about him. When they talked about the princess, he wanted to go up and interrupt them, but when he heard the topic turn to himself and her, he didn't go forward for some reason.

Thinking of the words "I hope they are happy", the words Luka had originally intended to say were stuck in his throat, unable to come out.

"Colonel Scorsese."

"Don't like the nutrient solution?"

"No, I just don't have much of an appetite."

"Are you still getting used to it?"

"Everything is fine, thank you."

".You're welcome."

After the awkward question and answer, only silence remained between the two.

"The military has been busy lately. The boss of an illegal auction organization was just arrested."

"Really? Then you should take good rest."

“.”

Luka looked at the person in front of him and frowned slightly in annoyance. This was obviously not what he wanted to say when he came here.

Sui Sui wasn't in a good mood, but she still smiled as usual, not letting her words drop. "As expected of Colonel Scorsese, I knew you would catch that bad guy."

Luka was silent for a moment, looked at her seriously, and said, "You don't have to be like this."

"What?"

"Don't bother complimenting me, and don't force yourself to smile if you don't want to."

Hearing this, she was slightly stunned.

She treated Liberi the same way, but Liberi, who seemed very smart, did not notice her flattery and only felt that it was beneficial. On the contrary, Luka, who had not gotten along with her much, saw through her directly.

She felt her face getting hot, and her fingers nervously grasped the hem of her skirt.

Luka noticed her uneasiness and considerately looked away, which made her feel a little relieved. He took out a necklace from his pocket and placed it in her hand.

"I found it from the boss. It smells like you, so I took it back."

"Thank you, Colonel."

"Call me Luka," the man said, then added, as if remembering something, "just like you call Liberi."

Sui Sui raised her eyes and met his light golden pupils. The light pupils were even more translucent in the sunlight, and they were so beautiful that she was distracted for a moment.

Luka didn't hear her calling his name, and his eyes dimmed.

"I've always wanted to talk to you about what happened that day."
