Chapter 63 Scavenger
In fact, after Sang Yan rescued Gai Meilun with the help of Qiao Suisui, the three of them continued to open up the wasteland.
This time, their mission was to find seeds on a desolate planet called Lang'Aina and bring them back to the Free Alliance. Upon arriving, the three-person team began their work, collecting a variety of seeds to take back for research.
There is no oxygen on Langai, and there are many alien creatures, so they must fight quickly.
Gai Meilun found a male orc lying on the ground. He had red hair, eyebrow studs, and dozens of bite wounds all over his body, showing the pain of a fight. Most importantly, the orc was not wearing protective clothing, which was practically an act of waiting for death.
When Sang Yan and A Yao came to meet Gai Meilun, they saw him giving his oxygen tube to an unconscious orc.
"There are no traces of warships around. How did he appear here?" A Yao scratched his head.
Gai Meilun gestured in surprise, his tone exaggerated: "That's right, it's like a magic trick. I was absolutely certain that he wasn't here just now, and when I turned around and looked, wow, he turned upside down!"
Sang Yan squatted down to check on the orc's condition, took out the medical insurance Qiao Sui Sui had given him, and gave him a simple bandage. He said slowly, "There's only one possibility for him to appear out of thin air. He must have come from another dimension."
Gai Meilun's eyes widened and he said, "Ah! It's that rare and amazing talent called...
A Yao replied naively: "Break it."
"That's right! I also want to have such a cool talent. Just imagine that I can lie on the bed in the bedroom and appear in the bathroom in the next second. Wouldn't it save a lot of effort?"
A Yao said disdainfully, "Is this the only way you can think of using it?"
Sang Yan ignored their chattering, quickly treated his wounds, took the oxygen mask off his face and returned it to Gai Meilun.
"Take it, don't waste oxygen. Now is not the time for sympathy."
Gai Meilun nodded. Sang Yan had always been the one making the final decisions in the three-person team, but he was a little worried. "If we leave, what will we do with this orc?"
Sang Yan left him some water and nutrient solution, took out a replacement protective suit for him to wear, then stood up and left.
"We've done what needs to be done. Let's go."
After the three people left, Carl's hand moved very slightly, as if he was struggling to wake up.
The Federation's mission this time was to track down the rebels, but because the mission was highly confidential, he could only follow instructions and reach the border of Osland, awaiting further orders. This was also the reason why he stayed in Qiao Suisui's small building.
Over the years, the Federation has actually been closely monitoring the remaining 13 rebels, and even set up a secret organization department. This department has no name, and colleagues never call each other by their names. They have a common code name - Scavenger.
Carl originally only wanted to become a member of the Federation with his outstanding abilities, but because of his special talents, he was eventually selected to become a member of the "Scavengers".
Among the remaining rebels, five have been secretly eliminated one after another over the past decade. As for the remaining eight, the federal government has invested a lot of manpower, material and financial resources to hunt them down for several years and has not given up yet.
Carl's mission this time was to find the rebel leader's son, follow the clues to uncover the rebels' whereabouts, and then send a signal using a specific contact method, prompting a special agent to eliminate them. The mission even included a caveat: in extreme cases, they didn't need to wait for the complete body to be returned. That meant they could use any means necessary to achieve their single goal: to kill the rebels.
Carl felt that this arrangement was a complete waste of time. He could find the rebel alone and kill him directly, so why go to the extra mile and separate the responsibilities of tracking and eradication? But he didn't ask, because there were only two rules for the scavengers.
1. Always obey and never ask questions.
Second, comply with the first rule.
When Carl received the signal, Qiao Susu and Luka happened to be out. He quickly put on his special clothes, a tight black uniform that showed off his chest muscles and the muscles all over his body. He put on his headphones, chewed gum in his mouth, took out the gun from his sports bag, assembled it, raised the gun, squinted one eye, and adjusted the sight with the other eye.
A red light flashed in his earpiece, and a processed, mechanical voice rang out clearly: "Coordinates N673, target present."
"receive."
He chewed his gum twice, and the next second, he and his gun disappeared from the room in a flash.
Carl lay on the cliff, observing through the scope a group of people slowly passing by below the mountain.
The team consisted of about a dozen people, with the ones leading the way, all armed professional orcs. They wore identical clothing, equipment, and face paint. They resembled well-trained mercenaries, marching in silence. Although they all looked exhausted, they remained vigilant.
Carl scanned the area with the scope, then pressed down on his earpiece and said, "I can't figure out who the target is."
They're all the same damn thing, let's kill them all, Carl complained in his heart.
A reply quickly came from the headset: "Follow quietly without exposing yourself. Continue observing."
Carl spat out his gum and put away his gun. For the next few days, he followed the group closely.
In front of the campfire, a middle-aged man handed a kettle to the young man sitting beside him.
The boy took it without a word, took two sips, and then restrained himself and closed the lid. The uniform black cloak seemed a bit too big on him, and the brim of the cloak covered most of his face, making it difficult to see his expression.
The middle-aged man beside him whispered, "Please have a couple more sips. We still have a long way to go."
The young man fiddled with the fire, and the flames shot up suddenly, illuminating his chiseled face. The camouflage couldn't hide his superior features: a high nose bridge, deep eye sockets. Although he had a pair of affectionate peach blossom eyes, the content in them was heavy and chilling.
Seeing that the boy refused to drink water, the man sighed silently and rested with his arms folded.
The canyon is most dangerous at night.
This team can have people take turns to keep watch, but Carl is alone. He has been awake for several days and has chewed all his gum. At this moment, he is holding a piece of grass in his mouth, crawling on the ground and hiding in the bushes, staring at the sight motionlessly.
Suddenly, a swarm of alien beasts attacked the group. Pairs of gleaming green eyes filled the air, and the beasts had already surrounded them without them realizing it. The alien beasts were invincible, so they could only be suppressed with mental power. However, they had been given strict orders upon their departure not to expose their mental power at any time. Seeing members of the group being mauled to death one after another, the young man quickly removed his cloak and tried to approach, but was held down by the middle-aged man.
"No! You'll be exposed!"
