Chapter 68 Change for Love
Karl stopped smiling, raised his chin slightly, and looked at her quietly.
"Did you not hear clearly? I said, if I leave, this place will collapse."
He told her almost word for word, but Qiao Susu just nodded slightly without any change in expression.
"I know." She looked at Karl, her clear eyes calm. "Your injuries are severe, and you shouldn't stay here any longer. I'll convince Zong Fang one last time tonight. After tonight, whether he and I leave or not, you must leave."
Hearing this, Karl felt mixed emotions, and a sense of unwillingness entangled in his heart.
Is she going to risk her life to accompany that man now?
You want to say she is heartless, but she obviously didn't need to come to treat his injuries, and there was no need for her to urge him to leave quickly in order not to delay his treatment. But do you want to say she is affectionate?
Her feelings seemed indifferent and not for him.
Karl's nameless anger rose again, and he stepped forward and grabbed her wrist, making it impossible for her to break free.
"Are you addicted to playing his lover? Don't move. I'm taking you out now."
Qiao Susu frowned and pushed him away, not understanding why this man suddenly became so bad-tempered.
"Karl, I can go out by myself. Zongfang gave me this space. I can go out whenever I want." She looked up at the sky anxiously, thinking that Zongfang might come back at any time. She wanted to shake off his hand, but the man refused to let go. "If you want to leave, go by yourself. I want to go back."
Karl's usual relaxed and playful expression was gone, and his face was unusually serious. He pinched Qiao Suisui's wrist and asked her in a voice that was almost a growl, "Are you going back to continue to be his pet? Or will you be used as a tool for making children?"
Qiao Susu was stunned.
She had always been aware of her situation, but when someone else suddenly said it, it was like a slap in the face. Karl had uncovered the fig leaf that she had been reluctant to touch.
Her shoulders drooped, and she stopped struggling. She just lowered her head and asked quietly, "Then tell me, how can I survive?"
She raised her face and looked straight at him, tears in her eyes but she tried hard to restrain them from falling, her expression was so stubborn that it made people feel distressed. Karl looked at her and felt as if his heart had been hit by a hammer, and he could not even feel the pain from the wounds on his body.
"Not him, but you?"
"Or just a random male on the side of the road?"
"Whether it's the Imperial Court or the Space, they're both cages. Tell me what the difference is?"
Karl knew he had said the wrong thing, moved his lips, looked at her red eyes, and couldn’t say anything to refute.
He felt completely foolish. Although he meant well for her, his words still came across as condescending. He was a male, too. What right did he have to criticize her for her survival? The ability to reproduce seemed truly remarkable in this world, a feat every male yearned for. But it also undoubtedly increased her stress, leaving her constantly under pressure and unable to choose freely.
Seeing Karl standing there speechless, Qiao Susu gently shook his hand away. The force was as light as a feather, but it pushed Karl far away invisibly, so far that he was actually afraid, afraid that he could never get close to her again.
He wanted to open his mouth to explain, but he saw Qiao Susu lowered her eyes and turned away, her petite body suddenly losing its former vitality.
Karl couldn't help but take a step forward, but stopped when he saw the man standing opposite him.
Zong Fang was standing opposite them, his eyes fixed on Qiao Sui Sui, and it was obvious that he had been listening here for a long time.
Both of them thought that Zongfang was going to go crazy and kill someone in the next second, but they saw him slowly coming up to her and hugging her tightly.
"Qiao Qiao, don't be sad. Let's go out."
Qiao Susu was stunned. She looked up from his arms to see his expression, making sure he was not lying to her.
Zong Fang saw the doubt in her eyes and gently stroked the hair on her temples. "You want to ask why I changed my mind, right?"
She nodded.
"Why didn't you go with him just now, but stayed with me?"
"Because I don't want you to be alone."
Zongfang's eyes were red. He lowered his eyes to look at her with an unprecedented gentle smile.
"Just your words are enough."
He hugged her tighter again, wrapped his arms around her waist, and kissed the top of her head.
"I also want everyone to know that you are not my pet, not my tool for reproduction. Qiao Qiao, you are my gift."
It turns out that love really can make people softer.
If Karl's words hadn't woken him up, he probably still wouldn't have understood why Qiao Qiao wanted to escape from him again and again.
He just thought that she didn't like being locked up and was wavering between him and several other males. He didn't realize that she had been carefully protecting her own self-esteem, so she wrapped herself in the attitude of not loving anyone and not caring about anyone.
Zong Fang's venomous nature and stubbornness were completely undone when he met Qiao Sui Sui. If she didn't want to change, he would change her; if she didn't want to compromise, he would compromise. In short, he was willing to do so.
Karl stood aside, his body stiff as a stone that had been dried for many years. He suddenly felt an incomparable bitterness in his mouth, and his heart became a shrunken apple, wrinkled. He didn't understand what this emotion was, and where it came from. He looked blankly at Qiao Suisui who was pinching the corner of the man's clothes.
She was so fragile and timid, and would vomit for a long time if she was teased. But at this moment, she resolutely chose not to give up on the person who had hurt her.
Isn't she heartless?
Why not be ruthless to the end?
Why should we be soft-hearted towards others?
Sensing Carl's gaze, Zongfang met his gaze with a warning. He didn't display any mental pressure, but the murderous intent in his eyes alone made Carl's back tense uncontrollably.
Zongfang didn't deal with him right away because he was impressed by Carl's talent. Destruction was one of the few remaining, extremely rare talents. At peak power, one could even create a black hole in a group fight, using Destruction's properties to divert attacks to another dimension. He had wanted to study it thoroughly, but now, no matter how capable someone was, he couldn't keep him if he dared to upset his Qiao Qiao.
He held Qiao Susu in one hand, and before the person in his arms could react, he used his other hand to gather strength and attack Carl, knocking him away.
When Qiao Susu heard the noise and turned around, she saw Carl kneeling on the ground in a mess, spitting out a mouthful of blood, and the next moment he turned back into a beast form.
I saw a leopard with gray fur, black spots and rings, and a long and thick tail lying on the ground.
She quickly hugged Zongfang's arm and shook her head at him.
"Don't kill him. What if he dies and this space collapses?"
Zong Fang touched her hair, said "OK", then picked up the snow leopard, took Qiao Suisui's hand, closed her eyes, and left the space together.
