Lianhua opened the wooden door and turned back to shout into the house, "Mom, Uncle Fengshou from Lujia Village in the north is here."
Lu Fengming followed his mother and elder brother into the Feng family courtyard. Old Mrs. Feng came out from the main hall.
"Isn't this Sister-in-law Lu? What's going on? Oh, aren't you the one the snake wanted that day? So it's your sister-in-law's youngest child?" Old Lady Feng grabbed Old Lady Lu's hand and said, "Your legs are not very flexible, you must have had a hard time along the way."
"It's not hard. My two sons pushed me here. Goddess of the Wind, thank you so much for saving my Feng Ming's life. Otherwise..." As Mrs. Lu spoke, tears came out of her eyes.
"Hey, look at what you said. It's so urgent. It's a life. Anyone would help."
"No matter what, my family thanks you!" Old Mrs. Lu wiped her tears with her handkerchief.
"Sister-in-law Lu, your eyes haven't healed yet? It seems to me that they are even worse than last time. Since you are here, I will prescribe some medicine for you. You can take it back and ask Fengshou to boil it for you every day. If it doesn't get better after taking one dose, come back to me. You don't need to come to me when it gets better. Just cry less and use your eyes less." Old Lady Feng kept talking about her profession.
"Hey, okay, I'll ask Fengshou to send you the medical fee later."
"Forget it, forget it. Why bother talking about the medical fee?" Old Mrs. Feng pulled Old Mrs. Lu into the main room.
Jiaojiao was lying on the small bed in the main room taking a nap. She was sleeping soundly.
"Is this your little baby? He is so cute! Look at his chubby little hands, and his little arms are as thin as lotus roots." Old Mrs. Lu gently touched Jiaojiao's arms, unable to hide her love for him.
Jiaojiao waved her arms, scaring Mrs. Lu so much that she dared not move. She whispered, "Did I wake you up?"
Old Lady Feng smiled and said, "It's okay, it's okay. She's been sleeping for a while, it's time to wake up."
Just as she said, Jiaojiao frowned and slowly opened her eyes.
She saw a strange old lady standing beside her bed.
This old lady...
It looks unusual!
Jiaojiao jumped up and looked at the room full of strangers. It took her a long time to come back to her senses.
She looked at the old lady again and reached out her hand.
When Old Lady Lu saw Jiaojiao reaching out for her, she was overjoyed. Old people usually have a certain smell about them that children dislike. But this adorable little girl, like a fairy from heaven, didn't dislike her at all.
Old Mrs. Lu carefully reached out and hugged Jiaojiao, with a smile on her lips and eyebrows.
Lu Fengshou also changed his usual behavior and came over to look at Jiaojiao. At his age, he already had several grandchildren, but none of them were as fair and lovely as Jiaojiao.
"Grandma Feng, you guys are really good at raising them!" Lu Fengshou sighed. "Those kids of mine crawl around in the dirt all day long. In the hot summer, they're all tanned like black iron eggs."
Old Lady Feng laughed heartily: "Which child isn't like this? Our Jiaojiao is so clean, she doesn't look like a country kid at all. In the countryside, who doesn't deal with dirt?"
Old Lady Feng naturally couldn't say how good her Jiaojiao was. To be honest, in the countryside, which child doesn't crawl and roll in the mud every day?
Lu Fengming, who squeezed over to join in the fun, thought to himself that there were few kids as good-looking as this one, not to mention in the countryside, even in the city.
"Smells great!" said Mrs. Lu. "Your baby smells great! Just like peaches."
Lu Fengming nodded. No wonder he felt it smelled like peach.
Jiaojiao looked at Lu Fengming with her eyes flashing. "Hmm... he's a good man! And a good official too!" However, because he was so good, he brought himself into great trouble.
Old Mrs. Lu hugged Jiaojiao and felt warm in her heart.
"Children are full of energy. I feel warm all over after holding them for a while." Old Mrs. Lu said to Old Mrs. Feng with a smile.
Old Lady Feng looked at Jiaojiao and thought, it's not because you held her for a while...
"Auntie, I want to know how the harvest in our village is this year?" Lu Fengming did not forget the purpose of his trip.
"This year?" Old Lady Feng curled her lips. "This year is no better than last year. I think it's even worse. Look, it's only just after the Lunar New Year, and many families are already running out of food. People are going up the mountain every day looking for food. Last year, several elderly people in our Wangjia Village starved to death. I don't know what will happen this year."
"Was the harvest good last year? I think our harvest was lower than other places last year! What caused the poor harvest? Was it insufficient fertility or something else?"
Old Lady Feng fell silent. Last year's reported harvest was less than other places, and even with that, they only had five taels of grain per person per day. How could five taels of grain be enough for a strong laborer? With no oil or water, and no staple food, they often had to cook wild vegetables into a porridge and mix it with water to fill their stomachs.
Seeing this, Old Lady Lu patted Lu Fengming and said, "Your eldest brother has already told you, why don't you believe it?"
Lu Fengming smiled and said, "Don't I want to listen to more opinions from the masses?"
Old Lady Feng's eyes lit up. She glanced at Jiaojiao calmly and said to Lu Fengming, "You said you would listen to the opinions of the masses. Then if the masses plant more sweet potatoes and potatoes, can that be solved?"
"That depends on whether the public opinion is reasonable!" Lu Fengming said, "Why do you want to plant more of these?"
"It's quite simple. Sweet potatoes and potatoes have high yields and can be grown on barren land. Also, if there's heavy rain during harvest season, other crops will be washed away, but these roots buried in the soil generally won't be washed away."
"That makes sense. So what crops do we grow in Wangjia Village?"
"Wheat! Corn, sorghum, and so on. We have to plant whatever is required to be planted."
Before the two of them could say a few words, someone called out at the door: "Grandma Feng, are you home?"
He is the village chief.
