This year is the happiest and most special year for the teachers.
Wangjia Village is always bustling during the Lunar New Year. This year, many new people came, making the New Year's Eve dinner even more abundant.
Several surrounding brigades sent a lot of food to the teachers in Wangjia Village a few years ago, allowing the teachers to feel the enthusiasm of the simple villagers.
In order to take care of these teachers from other places and their families, their families also joined in and made many delicacies from their hometown for the people of Wangjia Village to taste.
After the new year, the eighth day of the Lunar New Year is Cao Jianguo’s wedding day.
In Zhoujia Village, Zhou Pengcheng stood at the door with red eyes.
"Pengcheng, hurry up, it's time to carry your sister out! You silly boy, what's wrong? Are you reluctant to let your sister get married? Your eyes are red!" Zhou Xianyong's wife teased Zhou Pengcheng with a smile.
Zhou Pengcheng sniffed.
"Go in quickly, don't waste time."
Mengzi's wife pushed Zhou Pengcheng in.
Zhou Xinghong was dressed in bright red, with two red velvet flowers on her head, her face smeared with white powder, and her lips were bright red. She looked completely different from her usual self.
Her eyes were softer than usual, and they sparkled when she looked at everyone.
"Our Xinghong is still pretty. Look at her makeup, she's as pretty as can be."
"That's right, Cao Jianguo got a good deal!"
Zhou Pengcheng walked up to his sister with red eyes and said in a muffled voice, "Sister, I'll carry you out!"
When Zhou Xinghong saw her brother’s red eyes, her own eyes also turned red.
Zhou Meihong was wiping her tears.
"Look at these kids. Why are they crying on such a happy day? Stop crying! Luckily, your sister is getting married not far away. She can get there in no time. Pengcheng, you can even go to your sister's house before going to school this morning!"
That being said, when her elder sister gets married, she will have to establish a small family of her own. Neither Zhou Meihong nor Zhou Pengcheng can act like a spoiled brat with her elder sister as heartlessly as before.
The more Zhou Pengcheng and Zhou Meihong thought about it, the sadder they became. Ever since their parents passed away, their sister, Zhou Xinghong, had been their backbone. No matter how well their uncle and aunt treated them, they couldn't get a greater sense of security than Zhou Xinghong.
They can study with peace of mind because their sister gives them the confidence.
Sister has sacrificed so much for them, and now it is time for them to repay her.
Zhou Pengcheng turned around, lowered his head and squatted in front of Zhou Xinghong.
His tears dripped onto the dark ground, and he said in a hoarse voice, "Sister, I'll carry you out!"
Zhou Xinghong pouted and tears flowed out.
"Oh, stop crying!" Several aunts helped Zhou Xinghong lie on Zhou Pengcheng's back.
Zhou Pengcheng stood up steadily, carried Zhou Xinghong on his back, and walked out the door step by step.
He felt as if his feet were weighed by a thousand pounds, and he walked very slowly.
Zhou Xinghong lay on her brother's back, her tears wetting his shoulders.
She recalled the panic and helplessness she and her two siblings felt when their parents had just passed away, but she never expected that in the blink of an eye, she would be able to raise them to this age with the help of her uncle and aunt.
Cao Jianguo and a group of young men from Wangjia Village were waiting outside the door, pushing their bicycles with smiles on their faces.
"The bride is coming out!" The children all started to cheer when they saw the bride coming out.
Cao Jianguo looked at Zhou Xinghong with a smile, while the latter's makeup was smudged from crying.
Zhou Pengcheng put his sister on the back of the bicycle and said in a nasal voice, "You have to treat my sister well. Otherwise, I will never let you go!"
Jianguo stroked Pengcheng's hair and smiled, "Don't worry! You can come to our house every day to see your sister and see if she's doing well!"
"Let's go, don't miss the auspicious time!"
Zhou Pengcheng and several of his distant cousins from Zhoujia Village led the way, walking leisurely instead of riding bikes. The people from Wangjia Village behind them couldn't ride their bikes either, so they pushed theirs and followed the Zhou brothers, slowly heading towards Wangjia Village.
However, no matter how slowly you walk, you will eventually get there.
As soon as you enter Wangjia Village, you will see red wedding characters pasted on both sides of the road leading to Cao's house.
Everyone around had a happy look on their faces. Zhou Pengcheng thought that the people in Wangjia Village were the most friendly and they must be welcoming his sister's arrival.
Xiao Ya, along with Jiao Jiao and her friends, stopped her uncle on the road to ask for wedding candy.
Jianguo was speechless: "Xiaoya, why are you still taking the lead?"
Fortunately, he was prepared and gave one to each of his niece and her friends.
When we got to the door, another group of guys blocked the way and wouldn't let us in.
Dashan took teacher Lin Qiu Sheng's camera and took pictures of them throughout the whole process.
The brigade canteen was bustling with activity.
When the Cao family holds a wedding, the food is naturally provided by the Cao family. The chef in the canteen is in charge of the cooking, and he also has to be paid for his hard work.
The teachers rarely participated in such a village-wide celebration. They watched the whole thing with great joy, even more enthusiastic than Wang Guifen.
Ever since the canteen was built, every time there was a family wedding, they would have a big feast there. Nowadays, there was no longer a trend of sitting in the first or second row of seats; the canteen could accommodate everyone.
Anyway, everyone brings their own pots, pans, and utensils, and takes them home after eating.
Three meat dishes and three vegetable dishes, not bad compared to the Chinese New Year.
The noise in the cafeteria was so loud that the roof was almost blown off.
Yan Xiumei brought her daughter to the wedding banquet. These two hadn't seen each other much since they'd put aside their grudges in the mountains a few years before, but there was something of a gentleman's friendship between them.
Yan Xiumei's family is somewhat similar to Zhou Xinghong's. Her father passed away early, and over the years, she and her mother have been raising her younger siblings.
Like Zhou Xinghong, Yan Xiumei also went back home to rent a piece of land and plant peach trees. Thanks to the peach trees, her family escaped poverty.
