Wang Guifen casually picked up a wild grape from Goudan'er's arms and threw it into her mouth. The next second, her eyes widened and she quickly asked Goudan'er: "Goudan'er, where did you pick these grapes? Do you have any more?"
Gou Daner stuffed a few more grapes into his mouth and mumbled, "There are still many in the valley. We can't pick them all."
Wang Guifen slapped her thigh and said, "Oh my dear, why didn't you tell me earlier that something so delicious is available?"
She started to walk out.
"Grandma Wang, there's still honey, lots and lots of honey, please take it all!"
Honey? And this rare thing?
"Okay, Jiaojiao, just wait, Grandma Wang will get it for you!"
Wang Guifen rushed out to call for help, and went into the mountains together to look for wild fruits and collect honey.
Wang Guifen and the others came prepared, each carrying a large backpack. But once they reached the mountain, they were still stunned by the abundance of wild grapes. The entire stream was covered in grapevines. Bunches of dark purple grapes peeked out from the dense foliage. They had recently come to this stream to dig for wild vegetables, but there weren't any wild grapes, not even vines.
Obviously, the wild grapes and mulberries filling the mountain stream are a miracle sent from heaven.
"God bless you!" Wang Guifen clasped her hands together and said this silently. The people who went into the mountains with her also said this silently in their hearts.
The people of Wangjia Village picked the ripe wild grapes, leaving the unripe ones on the vines, waiting for the next harvest, or for others to discover and pick. Despite this, their backpacks were almost full. On the way back, Wang Guifen remembered Jiaojiao's mention of honey, so she and the others kept an eye out along the way. Sure enough, they discovered a large beehive on a large tree.
A beehive this large couldn't have appeared overnight. The people of Wangjia Village had climbed and descended this mountain countless times, but had never seen a beehive this large. The villagers clasped their hands together, silently chanted a few words, and then sent Xiaoya's father up the tree to remove the beehive.
The Wangjia Villagers had another fruitful trip. After descending the mountain, Wang Guifen and her companions delivered the beehives to Old Lady Feng's home. Meanwhile, children in the yard were engrossed in a feast of rabbit meat. The fragrant rabbit, paired with wild vegetable dumplings, was a feast for the children, their mouths drooling with delight.
The children of Wangjia Village were so happy today. They first ate wild grapes and mulberries, then ate delicious rabbit meat, and finally had sweet honey water to drink. Life is so wonderful!
After eating and drinking their fill, the children of Wangjia Village were taken home by their parents. That night, they all dreamed of that beautiful day.
Just as the people of Wangjia Village fell into a sweet dream, a sneaky figure outside the village quietly slipped away under the moonlight.
The man was short, with a pointed face and monkey cheeks, and was skinny as a beanpole. He tightened his belt and cursed, "Damn it! You're eating so well, and you don't even give me anything! I'll let Brother Biao take everything away from you!"
In a dilapidated earthen temple south of the county town, a group of people gathered. Their leader was a man with a face full of flesh. Even in a famine, he looked so well-fed, a man who clearly had plenty to eat and drink. These twenty-something refugees had fled famine somewhere, and having bonded over common interests, they formed a group and specialized in committing midnight robberies.
The man with a face full of flesh said, "Da Zhuang will be back soon after he went to check the location. You guys take a rest first and get enough energy. We will set off at twelve o'clock."
The group of people didn't ask any more questions and just fell asleep. Not long after, the people who had sneaked out of Wangjia Village returned to the earthen temple.
"How is it?" asked the man with a fat face.
"Brother Biao, it looks like those villages ahead still have some food left. There are still quite a lot of people in the villages, and few go out. But in my opinion, the richest village is Wangjia Village. When I went there today, they were actually still eating meat! The aroma was so delicious that I almost swallowed my tongue!"
"In Wangjia Village, even the lonely elderly look healthy. There's not a single person suffering from edema in the village, and no one looks like they're dying. Even the children have rosy cheeks."
A mad light flashed in Brother Biao's fierce triangular eyes. "He's a fat sheep! Let's go to Wangjia Village today. How's your scouting going?"
"Well, this Wangjia Village is pretty vigilant. There are people guarding the village entrance during the day. However, I checked several villages last night, and they relaxed their guard at night. Occasionally, a few people will walk around the village, which is not a big problem. We can just put it there when the time comes!"
"Is there a dog?" asked Brother Biao.
"What dogs? There's not a single dog in the whole village. Who has enough food to keep a dog these days?"
"Okay. You lead the way then. Find a few wealthy families to rob. You rest first, I'll call you later."
Brother Biao let the others rest, but he himself stayed awake. He was beside the fire, poking at it with a branch. The flames leaped up, making crackling sounds.
It was late at night, and it was time for everyone to fall asleep.
Wangjia Village was completely silent. In the darkness, a group of dark figures moved stealthily. Their primary target was the Feng family, located at the westernmost end of the village.
This place is the farthest from other houses in the village, and it is also the fattest sheep. According to Dazhuang's observation, there are four women in the family, young and old, and no men.
She is rich, has no men, and lives in a very remote location, making her the perfect target for robbery.
Brother Biao and his group suppressed their excitement and approached the Feng family cautiously.
However, they didn't know that before they entered the village, a monkey was squatting on a big tree at the entrance of the village. When the monkey saw them from a distance, it jumped down from the tree and ran straight to the west end of the village.
Brother Biao and his group of more than 20 people, led by Dazhuang, quickly arrived outside the Feng family.
