Chapter 49 Dark Clouds Over the City

Wangjia Village harvested its crops a day or two earlier than the other villages, and many people from Zhoujia Village, Yanjia Village, and Caijia Village came to help voluntarily.

People wielded sickles in the fields, and as wheat fell, they saw hope for the coming year. Wangjia Village promised to exchange seeds for everyone. Anyone who came to help would receive two kilograms of seeds. Don't underestimate these two kilograms of seeds; they're enough to sow one mu of land, and next year's wheat harvest would be sixty kilograms!

Nowadays, every household has a few to one or two mu of private plots. These free wheat seeds will definitely be used on these plots. If I can exchange some grain seeds with Wangjia Village and cultivate my own one and a half mu of land, then 600 kilograms of grain next year won't be a dream!

The sun's scorching heat was nothing compared to the burning passion in the hearts of the wheat harvesters. The more they thought about it, the more excited they became. They spat in their palms, gripping their sickles and reaping furiously. The sooner they harvested, the sooner they could get the wheat in their bags.

Jiaojiao, wearing a large straw hat, followed her aunt and mother to the fields to deliver peach juice. When the farmers heard there was peach juice to drink, they immediately dropped their sickles and crowded to the edge of the fields.

The two large buckets of peach juice were quickly consumed. After a bowl of peach juice, a cool sensation spread throughout the body. The sun's heat faded, and people felt their strength return.

"No wonder everyone in Wangjia Village says that drinking the peach juice from Old Lady Feng's house is refreshing and helps relieve fatigue."

Several young people from Zhoujia Village gathered together and muttered. Mengzi slapped the one who was mumbling: "What are you mumbling about? Why don't you hurry up and harvest the wheat? Are you worthy of the good food they provide?"

Several people quickly dispersed and consciously buried their heads in cutting wheat, their sickles dancing wildly.

The canteen of the Wangjia Village Brigade was bustling with activity.

Braised fish, braised chicken, bacon, and Chinese sausages were served in turn. Anyone who came to Wangjia Village to help was given a hearty dinner.

Jiaojiao stood at the edge of the field and looked into the distance. Normally, the weather had been sunny with no wind or rain recently, but she always felt that an unknown rain cloud would come from the east.

Director Zhang took the experts to the fields. Since they could not do farm work as well as the villagers, they helped transport the bundled wheat to the fields for easy transportation.

"Uncle, will it rain?" Jiaojiao remembered that Director Zhang went back to the weather station two days ago to ask what the weather was like in this area.

"It's fine, the sky is clear!"

Director Zhang wiped the sweat off his face with the towel draped over his shoulders.

"Why, our Jiaojiao also cares about the weather?"

Jiaojiao pointed into the distance and said, "Look at that cloud! It's so strange!"

Director Zhang stood up, put his hands on his waist and looked up at the distant sky. There was... nothing there.

Director Zhang looked at Jiaojiao: "What cloud?"

Jiaojiao:?

She looked at the black cloud in the distance again and felt that it looked familiar.

Director Zhang shook his head, thinking it was just a child playing a prank, and patted Jiaojiao's big straw hat, successfully covering Jiaojiao's eyes.

Jiaojiao pouted and pushed her straw hat up. She saw Director Zhang laughing and continuing to go to the field to move wheat.

Jiaojiao looked up at the sky again. The suspicious black cloud was motionless and unchanging, looking as if it were fake. But Jiaojiao knew that it was indeed a large cloud.

Something was wrong, nothing was right. But she didn't know what was wrong.

Jiaojiao thought about it, and finally entered the space to summon the bird fairy.

"Bird Immortal, please help me find out what that black cloud is! It can't be a rain cloud, or else we'll be in trouble again!"

After the Bird Immortal flew away, Jiaojiao checked the space again. The wheat ears on the black soil were so heavy that the stalks were bent. The Qiankun bag was filled with the grain and various supplies produced in the space this year.

Before taking a nap, Jiaojiao took another look at the sky. The suspicious black cloud was still hanging in the same place. She couldn't figure it out, so she decided to take a nap and wait for the Bird Fairy to come back.

At the same time, thirty miles away from Wangjia Village, an old man wearing old-fashioned clothes, a white cotton and linen gown, with messy hair tied in a bun on top of his head, holding a strange compass-like object in his hand, looking around on the road.

"That's right! It's here!" He identified the direction and continued walking forward.

In the fields of Wangjia Village, wheat was falling in sheets, and people were carrying loads of wheat to the fields. On the road, two tractors were waiting, ready to go as soon as the buckets were full, and then they would roar loudly, pulling the wheat to the threshing ground.

On the main road leading from the county town, several children were playing by the roadside, smashing cigarette cartons and watching the passersby warily.

In the evening, smoke rose from the brigade cafeteria. Dashan swallowed and nudged Goudaner: "I heard they're roasting a chicken tonight with vermicelli noodles, potatoes, black fungus, and mushrooms..."

Every time he counted something, Goudan swallowed his saliva. He looked at the main road, but there was no one in sight. Goudan got up from the ground and said, "Let's go back and eat some meat!"

Dashan looked at the main road and hesitated: "The shift change hasn't come yet!"

"It's dark now, no one's coming! Let's go!"

A bunch of little brats all ran away.

A figure was far away on the road, slowly approaching. It was an eccentric old man. He looked down at the compass-like object in his hand, the needle of which was jumping around, and then he looked up at Daqing Mountain.

The old man closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and opened his eyes. His eyes suddenly lit up, and he laughed out loud: "Hahahaha, I finally found it!"

As soon as Jiaojiao woke up, she found that the bird fairy had returned and was hovering above the Feng family, flapping its wings and chirping from time to time.

Jiaojiao hurriedly called down the bird fairy, who pointed his wings at Daqing Mountain. Jiaojiao then discovered that the black cloud had moved to the top of Daqing Mountain at some point.

“Crack!”

“Boom!”
