"Jiaojiao, what's wrong? Why are you looking at grandma like that?" Old Mrs. Feng looked at Jiaojiao.
Jiaojiao shook her head, wondering if there was any way to help Old Lady Feng.
Seeing Jiaojiao was alright, Old Lady Feng went inside and grabbed a handful of fried peanuts for Xiaoya. The peanuts had been given to her by Butcher Zhang from the next village when she'd been there to deliver a baby two days earlier. Butcher Zhang was overjoyed by the smooth birth of the twins and had gifted Old Lady Feng a dozen eggs, a small basket of fried peanuts, and two pounds of pork. It was quite a generous gift, but Butcher Zhang's family had always lived comfortably, so it was only natural that he was happy to have a son and a daughter.
The little girl got the peanuts, put them carefully in her pocket, and went home skipping and jumping.
In a blink of an eye, it was the 28th day of the lunar year. That day, Old Lady Feng was packing things at home when suddenly several people rushed in, pushing open the wooden door.
"Grandma Feng, help me!" An elderly woman in her fifties cried out in despair.
"What's wrong? Slow down!" Old Mrs. Feng put down the dough in her hand, clapped her hands and walked over.
A young woman was holding a five or six-year-old boy in her arms. The boy's face was red, obviously he had a fever.
Old Lady Feng flipped the boy's eyelids, asked some questions about the family, disinfected the boy, gave him a few injections with silver needles, and then went to the side room to get medicine.
There are three packs in total.
"Go home and boil three bowls of water until you have one bowl of water. Drink it once in the morning and once in the evening. If you don't feel any better after two days, go to a large county hospital for a checkup. If you feel better, take it for another day and you'll be fine."
The boy's family came in such a hurry that they didn't even bring the medical fee.
"Go back. Be careful not to let the child get cold again. Don't make the blanket too thick when you get home. Get him a towel and wipe him more often—wipe his forehead, hands, feet, and neck. This will help dissipate heat quickly."
"You adults have to work harder these past two days and keep an eye on the child. If anything happens, rush him to the hospital immediately."
The boy's family left with many thanks.
