When arriving in Wangjia Village, the happiest people are the children.
In the past, these children were confined to their homes, and at most played in the yard. Unlike the children in the village, they went up the mountain to catch rabbits and dig out bird nests, and went down to the river to catch fish and shrimp.
If they have a disagreement, they will climb up the tree.
And who can tell them why these wild fruits in the mountains are so much more delicious than what they eat at home!
This made these children who had never seen the world think that wild fruits were tastier than those grown in orchards!
Every day, they would go up the mountain to pick wild fruits at dawn and come down again for breakfast. After breakfast, they would start classes. After dinner, while it was still light, a group of city kids would rush back to the mountains!
They are more enthusiastic about going up the mountain than the children in Wangjia Village!
The adults who were initially worried about the children adapting found that their worries were for nothing! Not only did the children adapt, they adapted incredibly well!
Xiaozhe even complained that his grandfather didn’t bring him to Daqingshan earlier!
Wen Henian's granddaughter Wen Jingjing has always been weak, has a small appetite, and is very fragile.
I didn’t expect that after arriving at Daqingshan, my appetite increased, my health improved, and I grew taller.
There are several children whose parents were worried when they came, but after they came... they smell so good!
The city kids mingled well with the local kids, but the adults were still a little reserved.
Wangjia Village still eats communal meals. However, the elderly women and wives from the city aren't very familiar with the others. They all have stoves in their courtyards, so after some discussion, everyone decides to cook their own meals at home.
Their families are all at the front of the village, on a newly opened piece of residential land, so it is convenient for everyone to go out and visit each other.
So after being here for more than half a month, I only started to meet the people from Wangjia Village. After that, they closed their doors and lived their lives separately. When they were free, they would visit their neighbors and had basically no contact with the Wangjia Village behind them.
The teachers still ate at the Wangjiacun cafeteria. Their wives grumbled, "We have to eat at the cafeteria every day! I wonder what delicious food they have!"
Most of them were from the south. They were more refined than northerners. In their minds, everything should be exquisite and small. So what was so good about a big pot of rice? What delicious food could be cooked in such a big pot?
It wasn't that they looked down on Wangjia Village. After all, no matter how nice Wangjia Village was, it was still a small mountain village, and the dishes they cooked were mostly pork, fish, chicken, and the like. Besides, how could rural people afford to eat meat every day these days? They had good intentions and wanted to make something nutritious for their families. But these old men didn't appreciate it!
Another thing that is very different from their eating habits is that people in Wangjiacun eat two meals a day.
Breakfast isn't until 10 o'clock, and dinner starts at 4 o'clock! These people still work every day, I don't know how they can handle it!
Regardless of what they think, the Wangjia Village canteen is still bustling with activity!
Spring is the season for shepherd's purse. The Daqing Mountains are covered in fresh, tender shepherd's purse. Children who go up to the mountains to play in the mornings are assigned tasks. Each one gets a small basket of shepherd's purse when they come down.
For breakfast, I cooked pumpkin porridge, big steamed buns, green onions and eggs, beans with oil residue and spicy dried fish sauce.
The pumpkin is the famous local big pumpkin, which is sweet and delicious.
The steamed buns are soft and fluffy, the scallions are fragrant, the eggs are tender and smooth, and the oil residue is crispy and fragrant. The dried fish sauce is spicy and delicious, perfect for porridge or rice, and is Wang Guifen's specialty. If we don't eat it for two days, the members will protest!
The people and teachers of Wangjia Village were very satisfied with the meal.
The captain's wife said, "The kids dug up shepherd's purse this morning. You guys, get off work early this afternoon and make dumplings. We're having shepherd's purse dumplings today!"
Making dumplings is time-consuming and laborious, so we seldom make them on ordinary days. But when we heard that we were going to make dumplings, everyone was very happy.
Gou'er knocked on the bowl and shouted, "I want to eat white flour!"
His father slapped him on the head and said, "Stop knocking on the bowl!"
Wang Guifen cursed, "Be gentle! My grandson's head is precious! Don't beat him like you did, with a head full of blood!"
Everyone burst into laughter.
As soon as the school bell rings, the children of Wangjia Village rush to the cafeteria. Their school is right next to their homes, so they usually don't bring backpacks. They finish their homework after lunch and then go home. Parents completely let them go!
The children in the city looked at each other in confusion.
"Erdan, what are you guys doing? Why are you running so fast?"
Xiaozhe grabbed Xiaoya’s younger brother Erdan and asked.
"The cafeteria is making dumplings today! These shepherd's purse dumplings are delicious!"
Xiaozhe suddenly realized, no wonder they all went up the mountain with small baskets and hoes to dig shepherd's purse in the morning!
Xiaozhe thought of dumplings and felt like eating them too. They had been eating at home since they arrived in Wangjia Village.
Grandma said that the food at home is nutritious and can help you grow taller, stronger and smarter!
Grandpa disagreed. He said that without investigation, he had no right to speak. He asked grandma to go to the brigade cafeteria with them for a meal first!
He looked at the children from Wangjia Village around him; they were all tall and strong. On the contrary, the children from the city were the shortest in the class!
Moreover, Erdan heard that there was a grandmother in the cafeteria who cooked delicious meals! He ate so much at every meal!
Oh! It’s another day when I want to eat in the cafeteria!
Xiaozhe's eyes turned and he grabbed Erdan.
Erdan struggled hard: "What are you doing? I'm telling you, everything else is delicious. If you don't let me go to eat, I'm going to get angry!"
Xiaozhe quickly said: "No, no, no! I have a good idea, listen to it!"
He leaned over to Erdan's ear and whispered a few words to him.
Erdan asked, "Really?"
Xiaozhe nodded: "It's more real than pearls!"
