Chapter 71

As evening approached, Xiao Ziwu escorted her back to the Siye Mansion.

Tianyun was unwilling, saying, "I want to go see that female assassin first."

The female assassin had regained consciousness. Seeing Tianyun enter, she said weakly, "Thank you both for saving me. Otherwise, I would have died unjustly before I could avenge my great grudge!"

Seeing that she had a desire to confide in him, Tianyun asked, "Miss Shi Que, why did you put yourself in such a dangerous situation?"

The wound on her abdomen was caused by a specially made steel needle. Once it penetrated the flesh, it would bleed profusely. The assailant had gone to great lengths to kill her.

Shi Que looked like she was struggling.

I don't know if I should say this?

That beast wields immense power; if her benefactor were an ordinary citizen, she would have driven him to the brink of ruin.

She kindly offered to help, and Shi Que didn't want to be the unjust one. After thinking it over, she decided to only tell one side of the story and not the other.

She said, "I was originally a servant who swept and cleaned the gold mine. Because of my ordinary appearance, I was unable to become a jade pendant lady in the gold mine like my sister."

Her eyes dimmed when she spoke of her younger sister.

He continued, "Originally, I envied my sister. The Jade Plaque Girls were the most glamorous in the Burning Gold Cave. They didn't have to do any hard work. Every day, they just had to drink and dance with those important people, and the money they received as tips flowed into their pockets like water."

Her face showed pride, but her words were full of bitterness: "My younger sister, Shijuan, is the most beautiful among all the Jade Pendant Girls!"

Tianyun leaned against the boy's chest, listening quietly.

"She has a gentle nature. If any of the other girls in the building have an emergency and ask her for help, she will happily oblige without ever refusing."

Shi Que said in a hoarse voice, "Just two days ago, she was asked by someone to go to a..."

Her voice choked with emotion, as if she couldn't continue.

"I went to a meeting from which there was no return! I was brutally...ravaged, and killed by that beast!"

Her eyes were bloodshot; she wanted nothing more than to devour that beast alive!

"He deserves to die a horrible death!!"

It seemed as if she had used up all her strength to say those last five words. After she finished speaking, she looked as if her bones had been removed, lost and dejected, and tears streamed down her face.

My condolences, young lady.

Tianyun sighed.

To protect his younger sister, Shi Que secretly followed the gatekeeper to learn martial arts from a young age, never daring to slack off for a single day, and was swindled out of a lot of his monthly money by him.

Last night, she sneaked into that beast's mansion. Being petite and somewhat cautious, she explored the courtyard where that beast resided.

When he found that lustful beast, he was still in bed with his concubines, completely unaware that he was about to die without a burial place!

She lay in ambush in the shadows.

They were about to succeed!

But he was interrupted by a hunched-over man with a hoarse and unpleasant voice. He was highly skilled in martial arts and quickly discovered that there was a fourth person in the room.

He took out a square box made of black iron from his pocket.

Once the box was opened, nearly a hundred steel needles were neatly stacked inside, each about a finger's length, emitting a strong, foul, bloody stench!

Like a cat catching a mouse.

Use steel needles to launch them around the room.

Her hiding place was discovered, leaving her no choice but to retreat.

But the hunchbacked man was not going to let her go easily, and hundreds of steel needles came crashing down on her!

Despite trying to dodge, he still managed to hurt me.

The steel needle, of unknown material, pierced the flesh like two intertwined spirals, causing the small wound to widen and bleed profusely.

Extremely eerie and insidious!

The only saving grace was that the veil still covered her face firmly, preventing her from revealing her true appearance.

Otherwise, the consequences would be unimaginable!

"I don't want to reveal that beast's name, so as not to implicate you."

She took a deep breath and promised, "I will leave once I have recovered, and I will give you two a hundred taels of silver as a token of my gratitude!"

If what she said is true, then she is truly a pitiful person.

Tianyun smiled gently at her and said, "No rush, we sympathize with your plight. You should stay here and recover properly."

The two closed the door and went out. After walking a long way, Tianyun asked, "What kind of place is the Burning Gold Cave? Has Your Highness ever been there?"

"Never been there!"

The girl pinched and rubbed his delicate earlobe between her fingertips, and he answered without thinking, his voice revealing a hint of urgency.

She said with a half-smile, "Just from the name, you can tell it's a carefree and unrestrained place?"

This is a question that could cost you your life.

"Not entirely sure!"

Pfft—

She smiled teasingly: "Your Highness's attempt to cover up the truth is quite adorable."

Xiao Ziwu looked at her, a hint of helplessness in his eyes: "..."

"Does Your Highness believe what she said?"

Shi Que's grief-stricken appearance was genuine, and Tian Yun already believed her.

He clenched the small hand in his palm: "I will have someone investigate this matter myself. Don't worry too much. I'll take you back to your residence first."

"Your Highness keeps urging me to return to the manor, but does he think that my presence here will ruin His Highness's plans?"

As soon as Tianyun uttered those sentimental words, he wanted to take them back!

Those two beautiful maids today...

Even though His Highness had ordered that they would all be sent away tomorrow, she still felt somewhat uncomfortable.

She still couldn't be as magnanimous as one might imagine.

She lowered her eyes slightly and said somewhat dejectedly, "I misspoke..."

A gust of cold wind swept by, rustling the leaves. A few leaves drifted down from above, their white petals swirling and cool as they landed on the top of Tianyun's head.

"Don't move." Xiao Ziwu stopped and gently removed the fallen leaf from her hair.

Above him, the young man chuckled softly, “There are more than enough rooms in the mansion. If you’re worried, you can stay tonight. I’d be more than happy to do so.”
