Chapter 10 Injured
Eight guards protected the carriage behind them and fought with the bandits.
The sound of metal clashing could be heard all around, and there was a faint smell of blood in the air.
Zhao Yuanxi hugged Ziying's trembling body, cold sweat breaking out on his palms. These people were not ordinary bandits at all.
The laws of the Qin State were strict, and the punishment for group theft was very severe. All participants, regardless of whether they were the main culprit or the accomplice, were sentenced to death. In serious cases, they would be torn to pieces by chariots. If someone knew about the theft but did not report it, they would also be punished.
As long as they could still survive, no one dared to become a bandit. Even if someone was really bold, they would only rob merchants and would not dare to attack people with nobles.
They were coming towards her on purpose!
Zhao Yuanxi didn't understand. Why would someone assassinate a queen mother who was under house arrest? Or did they want to kidnap her and use her to threaten the King of Qin?
Zhao Yuanxi couldn't help but shiver.
"Protect the lady."
The car door was suddenly split open, and wood flew everywhere. Zhao Yuanxi quickly protected Ziying under him.
Ziying's tears soaked her front, "Mother, I'm scared."
Zhao Yuanxi was also very scared.
At this moment, the sound of swords cutting into flesh came to his ears. Zhao Yuanxi looked up and saw Jang Geum, who was guarding the door, snatched the bandit's knife, drew the dagger on her body, and cut the bandit's throat.
Blood splattered on half of her face, making her look like half god, half demon, but it made Zhao Yuanxi feel very at ease.
She held the long knife in her hand and stood at the door, ready to chop anyone who dared to come up.
Zhao Yuanxi's eyes widened and shone, wow - so handsome!
Jang Geum is not a female doctor, she is a female general!
Jang Geum's appearance obviously caught the assassins off guard. After several people were hacked to death, no one dared to move forward.
I don’t know how long it took, but the surroundings gradually became quiet.
Gao Sheng's voice came from outside, "Madam, are you okay?"
Jang Geum moved away from the door, and Zhao Yuanxi could see the scene outside.
Gao Sheng was holding a short knife in his hand that he had snatched from somewhere. It was covered in blood, his clothes were in disarray, and the hair crown on his head had fallen somewhere. He must have been in a tough fight.
"I'm fine." Zhao Yuanxi patted Ziying's back and said slowly.
The captain of the guards covered his arm and walked over to Zhao Yuanxi and knelt down. "I failed to protect you well. Please forgive me, Your Majesty!"
Zhao Yuanxi wanted to say they had done a good job, but looking at the tragic scene around her, her abdomen couldn't help but ache. She covered Ziying's eyes and suppressed the discomfort in her body. "How are our people?"
A trace of grief flashed in the eyes of the captain of the guards. "One person died, and three were seriously injured."
"What's his name?"
"Ayu, his name is Ayu."
......
"Let's go back to the palace!"
The carriage continued to move forward slowly.
Gao Sheng rode in front, and Jang Geum sat silently beside Zhao Yuanxi, "Madam, you are injured!"
"Is grandma hurt?" Ziying looked at her nervously.
"Ah?" Zhao Yuanxi realized it belatedly and felt a severe pain in her back. She turned around to check and found that a sharp piece of wood had pierced her left shoulder, and her back was stained red with blood.
"Did Grandmother get hurt because of Ziying?" Ziying sobbed, tears rolling down his face.
The little hand wanted to cover Zhao Yuanxi's bleeding wound, but she didn't dare to touch it for fear of hurting her.
"It's okay." Zhao Yuanxi bared his teeth and moved his shoulders.
Ziying's crying was also heard by people outside.
Zhang Han tightened his grip on the reins and his face turned pale. Thinking of the temper of the man in the Xianyang Palace, he sighed.
Zhao Yuanxi's injury was not serious. Although it looked scary, it was actually just a superficial wound. When the imperial physician came to clean her wound, the bleeding had already stopped.
As soon as the wooden splinter was pulled out, blood gushed out again, frightening Ziying so much that he cried and begged his mother not to die.
After the wound was bandaged, he patted Zhao Yuanxi's back carefully, "Are you still in pain, mother? Ziying will blow on you!"
Zhao Yuanxi smiled and rubbed Ziying's head, "I'm fine."
She then turned to the imperial physician, "Please ask Imperial Physician Sun to check on my guards and make sure they are safe."
"promise."
Only Jang Geum and Yu were left in the room.
Zhao Yuanxi actually had a lot of questions to ask Jang Geum, but since she was covered in blood and didn't know if she was injured, he said, "Let You serve here today. Jang Geum, you go back and rest!"
Jang Geum was stunned. She had just prepared herself to be questioned by the Queen Mother, but now she felt like she was about to say something but had to hold it back.
You covered Zhao Yuanxi with the quilt and looked at the little prince who had fallen asleep beside the empress dowager. She whispered, "Your Majesty, Guard Zhang and the others are kneeling at the door."
"Kneeling? Kneeling for what?"
"They failed to protect their master, so they must be punished. The Queen didn't say what the punishment would be, so they can only kneel outside first."
Zhao Yuanxi lifted the quilt and walked out in her slippers. You hurriedly caught up with her and put her coat on her.
At the palace gate, five people knelt in a row. One of them had a broken arm, and blood was still oozing from the bandaged area.
"Everyone, get up! I'm fine. You did a great job today. If it weren't for you, I would have died right there."
The leading guard bowed deeply to the Queen Mother and said, "Please punish me, Queen Mother."
Zhao Yuanxi's heart skipped a beat. He said helplessly, "I really don't blame you. Go back! Aren't there two injured people? Go back and take care of them. I don't want to see any of you get into trouble again."
"Thank you, Queen Mother!" The five people's eyes immediately turned red, but they did not stand up.
There was the sound of orderly footsteps outside, and several people looked at each other, with only dejection and helplessness in their eyes.
Zhao Yuanxi looked in the direction of the footsteps and saw a group of soldiers wearing armor, led by a captain holding a long spear.
"The king has ordered that you fail to protect him properly and be imprisoned to await punishment."
"Who are you?" Zhao Yuanxi stood in front of the guards.
The captain's face was stern, and the long halberd in his hand shook the ground. The cold light of the iron reflected on Zhao Yuanxi's face, "Empress Dowager, this is the king's order."
Zhao Yuanxi said calmly, "So, what does the king plan to do with them?"
"Of course, we should first investigate whether they have any connection with the assassins. If so, they will be guilty of genocide. If not, they should be executed for failing to protect their master."
He treated seven lives as if they were no more than killing a chicken.
Zhao Yuanxi felt extremely upset. "I'm fine, and they can't possibly be related to those assassins."
"Whether it matters or not is not up to you, Queen Mother. Come, take them all away!"
"Let's see who dares!" Zhao Yuanxi pulled out the sword from the waist of the guard next to her. The sword was too heavy and her hand was shaking a little while holding it, but she just held the sword and blocked in front of the guards.
The black-armored soldiers were afraid of Zhao Yuanxi's identity and hesitated to step forward.
The captain was not afraid at all and approached Zhao Yuanxi step by step.
Zhao Yuanxi was about 1.7 meters tall, which was considered tall in that era, but the general in front of her was a full head taller than her, nearly two meters tall, and one of his legs was thicker than her waist.
It was impossible to win by fighting. Zhao Yuanxi turned the blade of the knife, carried it on his shoulder, and pressed it against his neck. "If you dare to come over again, I will die in front of you!"
The captain stopped in his tracks, his face darkening several shades as he sternly shouted, "Empress Dowager!"
"Don't be so loud, what if you scare me?" Zhao Yuanxi's hands trembled and he almost cut himself.
