Chapter 210 Sleeping Together
He was so nervous that his hands were shaking slightly and his face was full of anxiety.
Seeing that his father didn't say anything, Fusu called out timidly again, "Father."
"Where did you learn this foolish behavior?" Ying Zheng said softly with a stern face. His tone was not harsh, but rather contained a hint of doting. He ruffled Fusu's soft hair and said, "Go put on your shoes!"
When Fusu heard this, he knew that his father agreed. He hurriedly turned back to put on his shoes. Seeing that his father had already walked to the door, he immediately trotted forward and held his father's robe tightly with his little hands.
A big one and a small one walked slowly along the corridor in the Qin Palace under the night sky and the starlight.
Fusu looked up and asked softly, "Did father come to see us specially?"
"I just happened to be passing by."
"But my father's bedroom is not here."
Ying Zheng paused, looked down at the child beside him, and chuckled, "I really came to see you, so what should you do?"
"Then I'm very happy that Father is willing to come and see us, and I'm also glad that I didn't go to bed early, otherwise I wouldn't be able to see Father."
"Don't I see you every day?"
"That's different. You are willing to come here because you like us." Fusu said embarrassedly with a red face.
Ying Zheng laughed dumbly, "Did the Queen Mother teach you this?"
Fusu shook his head. "Grandmother only told us to learn to express our affection."
"Then today I will teach you that a ruler must not show his emotions."
"But I can't help it, what can I do? I really like my father, my grandmother, and Ziying..." Fusu counted the people he liked on his fingers. He felt that he couldn't treat them the same.
"Hiding one's emotions doesn't mean one doesn't have them, but it means one cannot see through them or understand them."
Ying Zheng had no choice but to explain. Meeting Fusu's confused eyes, he felt that it was pointless to tell him all this.
"You'll understand all this in the future!"
Fusu hung his head and asked gloomily, "Father, am I stupid?"
Ying Zheng glanced at him and said calmly, "His aptitude is acceptable, but he lacks some experience."
Fusu was very smart, but he had too little experience. Both the Queen Mother and he protected Fusu too well, so that he had never seen the real cruelty of the world. Even Ziying was much better than him in dealing with problems.
On the one hand, Ying Zheng hoped that Fusu would grow up quickly, but on the other hand, he felt that it was too early for him to face those disputes.
Fusu clenched his fists tightly and said seriously, "I can do it. I can do a lot of things!"
When he was in Yongcheng, he helped his grandmother with farming, accounting, and writing. He learned everything his grandmother taught him.
Ying Zheng laughed heartily. "How about when you grow up a little, I'll let you be a minor official?"
"Then how big should I grow? Will I be bigger than you?" Fusu tilted his head and asked with some embarrassment.
His father was so tall that he could only reach his father's belt even if he stood on tiptoe. If he wanted to grow taller than his father, he would have to eat a lot of food and wait a very long time.
"When you can recite the Qin laws, I will let you take up your post."
"Then it's a deal!" Fusu stretched out his little finger, and Ying Zheng understood what he meant and shook hands with him.
Fusu said again, "There is one more important thing!"
Ying Zheng didn't think he could have anything important to say, but he still gestured for him to continue.
"Han Feizi wants to see my father, but he's been ill again these past few days." Fusu's face was furrowed, and he was obviously very worried about Han Feizi's health. He looked up and asked, "Do you want to go see him?"
"He wants to see me, what does he want to talk about?"
"The teacher didn't tell me."
Ying Zheng sneered: "I will summon him tomorrow - go see him in person."
Fusu nodded obediently.
Ying Zheng's bedroom was as solemn and exquisite as he was.
The coiled dragon pattern is hidden on the wall, and the ground is paved with shiny bluestone. It is surrounded by copper lamps inlaid with silk and gold, and in the middle is a bronze incense burner with auspicious beasts, emitting a faint fragrance. There is a bronze sword rack in front of the shadow wall, with the Qin King's sword placed in the middle, and several other swords are arranged among them.
His bed was extremely large, covered with black lacquer, engraved with coiled dragon patterns, and decorated with golden animal heads. The bed was paved with multiple layers and covered with a black brocade quilt.
Ying Zheng had never slept with a child before. He pointed to a corner of the bed and said, "Sleep here and don't move."
"Oh!" Fusu climbed onto the bed nimbly and covered himself with the quilt obediently. He looked very honest.
The candlelight in the bedroom dimmed, and Fusu looked at Ying Zheng with sparkling eyes, "Father."
"Um?"
After a while, his voice came again, "Father?"
"What's up?"
Under the dim candlelight, Fusu clutched the quilt and whispered, "Father, can you please not tell Ziying that Grandmother doesn't want him anymore? Ziying will be sad! If Grandmother and Father ever want to abandon me, I will be very sad too!"
He knew that the Grandmother would not abandon them, but Ziying regarded the Grandmother as the most important person. Even if the words were false, he was afraid that they were true.
Ying Zheng was silent for a while before he said, "I understand!"
Children are trouble.
"Thank you." Fusu sniffed softly.
The surroundings became completely quiet.
Fusu's breathing gradually became steady. Ying Zheng sighed, and as fatigue overwhelmed him, he also fell into a deep sleep.
It was not until he was kicked hard in the middle of the night that he woke up in shock and found that Fusu's little feet were right in front of him, just an inch away from kicking him in the face.
Ying Zheng's face turned from black to white, and then from white to black again. Seeing Fusu still sleeping soundly, he was so angry that veins popped out on his forehead. He resisted the urge to pick him up and beat him up, and angrily wrapped Fusu tightly with a brocade quilt, then lay back down.
He was a light sleeper to begin with, and this tossing and turning made it even harder for him to sleep. He supported his head with his right hand and stared at Fusu in a daze.
Before he knew it, Fusu had grown so big. When he was just born, he was not even half the length of his arm and looked like he would break if touched. He didn't even dare to hold him. Now his little arms and legs are quite strong.
When the sky was just getting light, Ying Zheng had already left.
Fusu rubbed his eyes and woke up from his sleep. Looking at the unfamiliar environment around him, he was so scared that he immediately became alert. When he was about to get up, he found that he was wrapped tightly like a baby in a cradle.
Fusu's face flushed red as he lay on his father's bed. It was obvious who had wrapped him up.
Did he do something yesterday?
Fusu really couldn't remember, and he struggled for a long time before crawling out of the quilt. Without waiting for the palace servants to dress him, he put on his clothes himself and sneaked out of the King of Qin's bedroom.
The palace maids around saw this and looked at each other in confusion, "Should we go and tell Eunuch Zhao?"
"Eunuch Zhao has gone to accompany the king to court!"
