Chapter 42: I Know You Are Still Evil
"I didn't say I didn't want you. Height is a hard requirement, there's nothing we can do about it. But if you're willing, you can come work in logistics, be responsible for clothing, accessories, or coordination, and the salary will be the same as before."
This arrangement rekindled the hope of some girls, who gratefully agreed.
Su Hexi looked at the overweight people and said in an unquestionable tone: "You guys are overweight. I'll give you a month to lose weight and come back for a retest."
"Boss Su, this... is too difficult, right? I feel dizzy and dizzy if I don't eat much. How can I work?"
"Exactly. Wasn't it pretty good before? The audience didn't say they didn't like it."
"Who can stand asking us to lose weight all of a sudden? If you just don't want us anymore, you can just say it directly instead of beating around the bush and torturing us."
The women complained in unison, unwilling to endure the hardship.
Su Hexi crossed her arms and glanced at them coldly: "The past is the past, and the present is the present. The 'Xi' brand wants to be high-end, and we must be strict with our image. If you can't even control your weight, how can you talk about success? What about permanent cooperation?"
She paused, then raised her voice with a resolute determination: "In short, if you want to continue making big money with me, then listen to my instructions and grit your teeth to lose weight. If you don't cooperate, you can collect your money and leave now. I will not keep you here."
Her words were like a cold whip, lashing out at the hearts of those who hesitated and complained. Their faces turned pale and blue, and they hated Su Hexi's unyielding and ruthless dominance.
But when they looked at those around them who were able to stay, they felt envious. Then they thought about the salary and bonus offered by Su Hexi, which was far higher than the market price, and that the work was not tiring or difficult, and it just required them to walk on the runway to show clothes. The dissatisfaction in their hearts was suppressed again.
Su Hexi was strict and demanding, but she was never vague about her money and never delayed it. In the end, some people gritted their teeth and decided to lose weight, while others left, muttering, "I can't stand this."
After dealing with the model issue, Su Hexi took some time to visit the construction site.
The construction site was bustling with activity. The foundation had been laid, and the steel skeleton was being erected layer by layer, making a clanging sound. She immediately spotted Zhou Lin high up.
He was squatting on a newly erected steel beam, giving loud instructions to the workers below. His voice was hoarse but powerful, penetrating the noisy noise.
Su Hexi looked at it for a while, picked up an unopened bottle of mineral water next to her, and walked over carefully, stepping over the debris. She called out, "Zhou Lin!"
Zhou Lin turned around and saw that it was her. He was stunned for a moment, then climbed down from the steel beam nimbly and walked a few steps to her. His tone was full of subconscious concern: "Why are you here? It's dusty here, it's not safe."
"Come and see the progress." Su Hexi handed him the water, "Here you go."
Zhou Lin looked at the bottle of water, his heart scalded by something, a warm feeling flowing through him. He took the bottle, unscrewed it, tilted his head back, and drank half the bottle, his Adam's apple rolling violently. The cool water instantly relieved the dryness and burning pain in his throat.
"The progress is okay, according to plan." Zhou Lin reported concisely, "It's just that the steel bars are a little more expensive than expected, but don't worry about the quality, I'll keep an eye on it."
"Yes." Su Hexi nodded, "I'll leave the construction site to you. The focus is on the catwalk area and the entrance, and time is tight."
"I understand." Zhou Lin nodded heavily.
Su Hexi didn't stay long, and after giving a few more words of caution, she turned and left. With Zhou Lin watching over her like a nail, she could indeed worry less and devote herself to the preparations for the show.
Not long after Su Hexi left, people on the construction site started talking about it.
They were fellow workers Zhou Lin had met while working at another construction site. They looked at the already-taking-shape framework and Zhou Lin's confident direction, their eyes filled with envy and jealousy.
"Brother Lin, you're shaking like a madman! You're in charge of such a large construction site."
"Tsk tsk, Brother Lin is really capable and knows how to find a way. I really didn't see that when we were carrying cement together before."
"Is he hooking up with a rich female boss? That's impressive. He's so arrogant even if he's just living off a rich woman. He's directly contracted a project as a foreman!"
Zhou Lin's face darkened, and he tightened his grip on the water bottle, his knuckles turning pale. But he didn't get angry immediately, only looking at them gravely.
Seeing that he didn't say anything, those people thought they had hit the nail on the head, and became even more proud, and their words became more and more unpleasant.
Zhou Lin threw the remaining half bottle of water to the ground, his eyes sweeping over those gloating faces one by one, "I don't care what you think of me, what you say about me behind my back, I don't care."
His voice was low, but it carried a heavy weight of pressure, causing those people to unconsciously suppress their smiles. "But I have only one thing to say: here, the project must meet the standards! The quality must pass! If anyone dares to tamper with the materials or the construction, or cheat or act slyly, don't blame me, Zhou Lin, for turning my back on you. No one's pleas will be of any use then!"
His words were powerful and carried unquestionable authority.
The workers were intimidated by his aura, and for a moment no one dared to speak back, but their faces were clearly filled with dissatisfaction and resentment. They felt that Zhou Lin was just showing off his power, forgetting that he himself had once been a peasant.
Several people exchanged glances, and the resentment they held in their hearts intensified. They whispered, "Isn't it just that he relied on women to get to the top? What's so arrogant about it?"
A dark thought began to grow in their minds. "Let's find an opportunity to make him make a big mistake on the construction site and teach him a lesson. Let's see how arrogant he can be!"
After a discussion, they decided on a time and said, "Let's do it tonight!"
The night was as dark as ink. There was no other light source on the construction site except the dim light bulb of the night watchman and sporadic safety warning lights.
Zhou Lin, wrapped in a military coat, leaned against a concrete pillar on the corner of an unfinished building, eyes closed, ears like a cheetah catching any unusual sounds around him. He didn't dare go back to the makeshift shed to sleep, fearing someone would take advantage of the night to cause trouble.
Sure enough, in the second half of the night, several furtive dark figures slipped in, weapons in their hands. They were the workers who had been scolded away by Zhou Lin during the day.
They reached a pile of pre-tied rebar and muttered under their breath. "Damn it! Let him get ahead of himself! Cut off a few of the rebar from the main beam. Once the cement is poured on, it won't be noticeable. And when the building collapses, we'll see how he'll explain it to that female boss!"
A man took out a pressure pliers and was about to take action when a black shadow pounced from the side like a tiger and kicked him hard on the wrist!
With a crisp "click" sound and a shrill scream, the pressure clamp fell to the ground with a bang.
Zhou Lin stood in the moonlight like an iron tower, his eyes frighteningly cold, his hand tightly gripping a thick iron rod. "I knew you were still up to no good!"
Those people were so scared that their souls were about to be blown away. When they saw that it was Zhou Lin, their legs immediately went weak and they knelt down to beg for mercy: "Brother Lin! Brother Lin, we were wrong! We were just confused for a moment and were bewitched! Please forgive us this time, we won't dare to do it again!"
"Let you go?" Zhou Lin's voice was cold. "Today you can clamp the steel bars, tomorrow you'll dare to tamper with them somewhere else! We caught you this time, but what if we didn't? If the building collapsed and people died, who would be held responsible?"
