"Mother, let's go take a look," Fu Ling'a said nimbly, jumping onto Chen Yuwei's arm and shaking it affectionately.
"Mother!" "Mother!"
Once someone speaks, others will echo them, like a broken record repeating the same sentence over and over again.
Chen Yuwei raised an eyebrow, "Aren't you afraid you won't be able to sleep at night after seeing this?" The bloodied prey is quite frightening.
The group obediently shook their heads; they were fools, and hadn't yet grasped the concept.
Chen Yuwei: ...Okay.
Since it was her own child who made the suggestion, Chen Yuwei didn't stand on ceremony and directly led her people to attack.
Only after they arrived did Chen Yuwei realize that the prey carried back by the guards was several times more ferocious than large wild beasts.
They are all tigers, bears, wild boars, leopards, and anything that is aggressive or large.
Because it was basically a one-shot kill, the wound wasn't big, so it didn't look too bloody.
Well, as expected, professionals at this kind of thing are definitely better than amateurs.
"This servant greets Her Highness Consort Shu."
When the eunuch in charge of the arrangements saw Chen Yuwei coming over, he quickly ran over to greet her.
Chen Yuwei pointed at the prey, "Were they all hunted from the mountains?"
The eunuch smiled obsequiously, "Yes, His Majesty will be going on a hunt with several princes and ministers tonight."
The implication was that, fearing something might happen if they went up the mountain late at night, they had sent these armed guards to deal with some of the more dangerous wild animals in the forest beforehand.
Upon hearing this, Chen Yuwei understood. No wonder, it turned out that Hongli was no longer satisfied with daytime hunting and had started to try other tricks.
"Yes, go ahead and get busy. I have nothing to do here."
After waving the people away, Chen Yuwei led Yonghu and the others to retreat.
Yonghu's eyes lit up when he saw the dead animals, and he was eager to ask the emperor to take him on a night hunt.
"Stop fooling around. Your father has important matters to attend to. If you go, what if he gets distracted while taking care of you?"
"In a couple of days, Mother will lead the women on a hunt, and all of you can participate."
Chen Yuwei quickly stopped Yonghu's wild imagination, thinking to herself, "If he doesn't sleep at night, he might not grow tall."
After much persuasion, he finally managed to send the children back home. He also instructed the servants around him to keep a close eye on them and prevent them from causing any trouble, especially Yonghu, who was absolutely forbidden from running out at night.
The large temperature difference between day and night in Mulan Qiumi is one thing, but this place is also a hunting ground where wild animals tend to be more active at night, and the night is much more dangerous than the day.
Chen Yuwei didn't want to experience firsthand what it felt like to be suddenly woken up from a good night's sleep.
So we simply cut off the problem at its source, not giving Yonghu and his gang any chance to cause trouble.
As Chen Yuwei walked back from Yonghu and the others' yurt, she looked at the setting sun in the distance and complained to Xia He about Hongli's idea of going hunting that night.
"I wonder which magistrate came up with this idea. If nothing goes wrong, all will be well, but if something does go wrong, we won't have enough heads to lose."
It was late at night, and the mountain was pitch black. The only way to hunt was by lighting a few torches. Just thinking about that made me realize how difficult and dangerous it would be.
Xia He was unknown, but she certainly held a significant position in the imperial court.
Otherwise, such a bizarre move would have been rejected by the court officials as soon as it was proposed.
As an emperor, Hongli, being of inestimable worth, would not venture into dangerous situations.
"Go back and wash up. I smell of dirt all over my body. The Emperor has courtiers who are worried, so nothing will happen."
After saying that, Chen Yuwei quickened her pace to go back.
Once back in the yurt, the first thing I did was take off my clothes and take a nice, relaxing hot bath.
After washing up and changing into her nightgown, Chen Yuwei had Xia He massage her shoulders and waist to relax them before going to bed.
As it turned out, before Chen Yuwei could sleep for long, she was woken up by a noisy commotion.
Frowning, she stood up. Before Chen Yuwei could speak, she saw Xia He enter in a flustered manner.
Huh? "What's going on outside?"
I glanced outside instinctively, but unfortunately the yurt had no windows, and apart from the occasional sound drifting in, I couldn't see anything.
Xia He swallowed nervously. "Your Majesty, something has happened to the Emperor."
Chen Yuwei: ...?!
Should one's words be matched by one's actions?
"Tell me in detail what happened to the Emperor. Quickly help me to wash and dress."
The drowsiness instantly vanished, and Chen Yuwei nimbly sat up in bed and rolled off the bed.
Xia He's hands and feet trembled as she described what she had seen.
Actually, Xia He didn't see much. She was on night watch and was so sleepy that she went out for a walk. Then she saw a group of people hurriedly carrying a sedan chair back.
Why is it said to be the Emperor? Because someone shouted the words "protect the Emperor."
Moreover, Chen Yuwei's yurt and Hongli's yurt were not far apart.
Xia He panicked and tried to rush in to wake her master, but the master was already awake, and the two of them stared at each other.
After listening to Xia He's explanation, Chen Yuwei thought of the sound that had woken her up.
Yes, that's right, Hongli suffered a setback during this nighttime hunt.
"Your Highness, shall we go over there?"
They weren't notified; wouldn't it be inappropriate for them to show up uninvited?
Xia He thought to herself that the commotion outside had subsided by now.
If Chen Yuwei hadn't still been wearing her casual clothes, and if neither of them had lost their memories, they would have suspected that they had just hallucinated.
"Let's go," now that we're awake, pretending to be asleep is definitely not going to work.
Besides, with Xia He making all sorts of noise, there's no guarantee that others won't see it.
If someone were to gossip about it to Hongli, the situation would be even worse.
Xia He helped Chen Yuwei out the door, and the two quickly arrived at Hongli's yurt.
The stench of blood lingered in her nostrils. Chen Yuwei took a deep breath and sent the eunuch on night watch to deliver a message to the people inside.
