Chapter 36 Recruiting Underlings

Looking at the man who had suddenly appeared in front of me, I pretended to be very surprised.

I looked him up and down. The man blocking my way, feigning ignorance, asked, "Who are you? Why are you stopping me?"

The sudden burst of acting was truly impressive; I'm even a little impressed with myself. And the man didn't suspect a thing.

Because the last time we saw him, he was dressed like a beggar, but this time he at least cleaned himself up.

The man said in a deep voice, "My name is Wen Bing, I'm a mercenary, and I'd like to apply for a job here."

I was puzzled as to why it was a job interview, but I didn't think much of it and just asked directly, "I don't know you, what kind of job are you applying for?"

Wen Bing replied, "We've met before. You and your sister saved me when my old injury flared up again."

Then I pretended to suddenly realize and said, "Oh, you're the beggar we rescued last time!"

He then mocked, "What skills do you have? If I hire you, what can you do? Beg for food?"

Wen Bing wasn't angry; he simply threw a straight punch into the air, creating a sonic boom.

I feigned surprise and said, "Practicing Qi?"

Wen Bing narrowed his eyes and said, "You really are insightful. I've been observing you for several days now."

"I've noticed that the martial arts you taught these kids are quite advanced. You seem to have connections to obtain high-level martial arts techniques."

I raised an eyebrow and said, "You followed me and stole my martial arts skills, which is a major taboo in the martial arts world. And yet you dare to show your face in front of me."

Wen Bing explained, "I didn't steal the knowledge. I only came out to see you because I wanted to study properly. I know you have a secret."

But I don't care what secrets you have, I just want to learn advanced martial arts, but no one has ever taught me.

"I used to be someone's dog, and I never learned any real skills."

As he spoke, he clenched his fists and his eyes turned bloodshot.

When I looked at this, I realized there was more to it than met the eye; perhaps even the name was fake.

But I ignored that and continued, "Then why did you come to me? What can I teach you?"

Upon hearing my answer, Wen Bing was not flustered at all; on the contrary, he was quite excited, suppressing his emotions on his own.

Looking me straight in the eyes, he said, "Attitude is your attitude towards these superior martial arts techniques."

The fist techniques, sword techniques, and internal energy cultivation methods you taught those kids were all top-notch, but you just taught them casually.

The fact that you only train a few henchmen shows that you don't care about this martial art; you must have a better lineage to pass it on to.

"I can be your henchman, as long as you teach me too."

After listening to Wen Bing's words, I suddenly realized a flaw in my own understanding of things and situations.

My level is too high. What I consider nothing is something that others would covet but cannot obtain.

Horse Face and Lu Ze are too young to understand anything, but when they encounter someone who does understand, they become suspicious and try to steal from them.

This time it was Wen Bing; he chose to join in rather than take action. But what will the others do?

I think it's nothing special, just something worthless, but others might not think so.

At that point, I'll either expose myself or kill someone to silence them.

My thought was that if I were exposed, all my peaceful days would be over.

That'll be incredibly troublesome. Thinking about it that way, I find Wen Bing much more agreeable.

After pretending to ponder for a while, I said to Wen Bing, "I can hire you."

But once you learn my techniques, it's a lifelong commitment. If you betray me then, you'll pay a heavy price.

Wen Bing suddenly looked fierce and said, "I have nowhere else to turn. I'm willing to take a gamble, and I hope you won't let me down."

I snapped back, "Don't be so cheesy and disappoint you!"

My interruption made Wen Bing feel awkward, and he wasn't so excited afterward.

I then said to Wen Bing, "Let me take a look at your old injuries first. You can't do much with all these injuries."

"I'll let it go for today. Go to this place tomorrow and I'll treat your injuries first."

After saying that, he handed him a slip of paper with an address written on it. Wen Bing took the slip of paper and glanced at it.

Then, without asking any further questions, he turned and left.

Just then, Madara suddenly appeared and said to me, "You believed him so easily? Why?"

Without turning around, I replied directly, "Everything has a first time. Give him a chance, and give me a chance too."

Even if I lose the gamble, it'll just be a matter of one stab; if I win, I'll have my first usable subordinate.

The key is that it can be used openly, and in any case, he helped me close a loophole, so giving him a chance is nothing.

Madara continued, "He's clearly hiding something, don't you care?"

Suddenly, I became arrogant and said to Madara, "What trouble can he cause? Even if someone causes trouble, we can just bury them all together. What do we have to be afraid of?"
