Chapter 28 Aftermath

After everyone had left, I looked down at the Emperor's Hatred in my hand.

Trying hard to suppress my excitement, I looked towards the guardhouse, but there was nothing there now.

The destruction of all of the Gao family's experimental materials wasn't a big deal, but the death of the gatekeeper made me feel uneasy.

Aizen has a truly high grasp of people's hearts. He guessed what I was thinking just by seeing me glance in the direction of the guardhouse.

He said directly, "You all go find a place to stay first. I'll go ask the gatekeeper if anyone else is at his house."

Without waiting for my reply, he turned and left. I stared in the direction Aizen had gone, remaining silent for a long time.

Seeing that I was in a bad mood, Madara didn't say anything, but just stood there silently with me.

I stared in the direction of the guardhouse, remaining silent, when suddenly I raised my hand.

He wiped his face, turned to Madara, and said, "Let's go. Madara, let's find a place to stay, and then we'll try out the Rinne Rebirth Technique."

Seeing that I had regained my spirits, Banye smiled and nodded. We quickly found another desolate mountain.

They used Earth Release to build a temporary base, and just as we finished building it, Aizen returned.

He was also carrying a little girl in his hand, but her eyes were empty and lifeless; she was blind.

I looked at Aizen, waiting for his explanation, but Aizen didn't say anything more.

He went straight to the point: "The gatekeeper has no children, only this little blind girl he found; they depend on each other for survival."

After saying that, he gently put the girl down from his hands.

Aizen's words were concise, just one sentence, but the meaning he conveyed was exceptionally heavy.

Then he stopped talking and looked at me. I knew what he meant; he wanted to see what I would choose.

I suppressed my discomfort and asked the blind woman, "Don't be afraid, we're not bad people. How old are you? How many years have you been working for the gatekeeper?"

The blind girl answered timidly, "I'm thirteen years old this year, and I've lived with my grandfather since I was little."

I felt even worse after hearing that. A thirteen-year-old girl looked like an eight or nine-year-old child.

How much suffering must have she endured? And today, because of me, she lost her last remaining family member.

I suppressed the guilt in my heart and could only let my eyes redden.

He said to her, "Our grandfather passed away unexpectedly today, but before he left, he entrusted me to take care of you from now on."

Don't worry, from now on, as long as I have food to eat, you won't go hungry.

"These are all good days now; the hard times are completely over."

As soon as I finished speaking, I saw the blind woman silently shedding tears, without making a sound, as if she was afraid of disturbing others.

In such a sad time, one is afraid of disturbing others; how stifling it must be in daily life.

When I saw her condition, I didn't try to persuade her; I just put my hand on her head.

The message read: "Cry, cry out loud. This is the first time you've lost a loved one; it must be the saddest time of your life."

At this moment, you should cry out loud, don't care about others, and remember that no one will ever bully you again.

Finally, cry loudly for Grandpa one last time, then hug him and say, "I gave my life for this new life you earned."

After hearing my words, the blind girl could no longer hold back and began to wail and cry her heart out.

She cried until she fainted. I didn't say anything to comfort her; I just held her in my arms until she cried herself unconscious.

I silently picked up the blind girl and placed her in the specially prepared room next to me.

Then he turned to Aizen and said, "Go and bring Xuanjian and the others over. The four women need to practice their skills too. Let's get this over with."

Aizen didn't say anything, he just nodded and left.

Then, he instructed Madara, "You should also adjust your state. Once Xuanjian and the others arrive, we will activate the reincarnation."

"We'll revive you and Aizen. We'll make our move once you're both ready."

Madara nodded and turned to leave.

But just before leaving, he suddenly turned back.

He said to me, "You don't need to blame yourself. This incident has nothing to do with you. Nobody expected that Summoning Emperor Hatred could cause such a big commotion."

So you don't need to take all the responsibility on yourself. That's just how the world is. The lack of power is the original sin.

I looked up at Madara and said, "I know, that's why I'm trying to get stronger."

But I don't want to become someone who treats human life like dirt; if I did, I would become like I used to be.

That's the type of person I hate the most. I don't want to be like that. We can do better, can't we?

Madara didn't refute it, but simply smiled and said, "You're the master, whatever makes you happy."
