"Qin Lu, is this a call from Huating Power?"
Wen Zong could glean some information from Qin Suisui's few words. His tone was filled with doubt, not understanding her intentions. She had just rejected them, but now she had come looking for them again.
Qin Suisui nodded: "Their legal director, Director Dong, asked us to meet this afternoon?"
Her smile deepened, and her eyes narrowed slightly, though she still looked somewhat puzzled.
"There must have been a problem with Huating Power in the middle of the process, otherwise they wouldn't have issued two completely different notices in just two hours."
Wen Zongdao said, "We should know the outcome this afternoon, whether it was unintentional or deliberate on their part."
"Um"
Qin Suisui leaned her head back in the chair, her eyes slightly closed, her emotions relaxed and her expression natural and at ease.
Wen Zong glanced at the back seat. From his position, Qin Lu's expression was calm, but when he turned back, he saw out of the corner of his eye that Qin Lu's fingers were clenched tightly, and there were faint blue veins on the back of his slender, fair hands.
Thinking of some rumors he had heard recently, he sighed inwardly. Unable to determine whether the information was true or false, he decided not to bring it up in front of his female boss.
Qin Suisui took Wen Zong back to the company for a simple working lunch. After resting for a while in the office, she called Wen Zong to go to Huating Power International together when it was almost time.
Unlike in the morning, when Coco saw Qin Suisui and Wen Zong enter, she quickly stepped out from behind the counter, standing ramrod straight with a stiff smile and an obvious sense of unease.
"Attorney Qin, Attorney Wen, I'm so sorry. This morning, due to a misunderstanding and miscommunication, I caused you both trouble. Director Dong already reprimanded me this morning. I'm very sorry!"
Qin Suisui glanced at the receptionist who had bowed her head and admitted her mistake, and said calmly, "No need, we're just doing our jobs. Please take us to see Director Dong."
There was no miscommunication; someone must have been behind it. However, she didn't want to make things difficult for a receptionist. After all, everyone is doing their job, and it's pointless to make things difficult for someone who can't fight back.
Coco, head bowed, led the two from the Law Offices of Rhodes toward the executive elevator. Her steps were hurried, her back felt like it was being pricked by needles, and she was only thinking about getting the two into the elevator as quickly as possible. She was no longer thinking about the consequences, and she felt a kind of self-pity and resignation to fate.
As the elevator doors slowly closed, her stiff smile vanished, her shoulders slumped, and she turned to walk toward the front desk.
Dong Shu stood by the elevator, watching the elevator doors open and two people walk out. Could the woman in front be Ms. Sheffield from the Law Offices of R.T.?
Although he had doubts, he still smiled and greeted the other person. After seeing what she looked like, his smile froze: this was no lady at all, but clearly a young girl.
He hesitated slightly: "Attorney Sheffield?"
"Director Dong, this is Xie Fei!"
Qin Suisui walked up to Dong Shu, extended her hand and shook hands with him: "Director Dong, I've long admired your name, it's great to finally meet you!"
Dong Shu suppressed his surprise.
"Attorney Sheffield!"
He exclaimed in amazement, "You are incredibly young!"
If you didn't notice Xie Fei's professional attire, she would look like a college student who hasn't even graduated yet.
"Director Dong, I just have a baby face, which makes me look young."
A hint of helplessness flashed in Qin Suisui's eyes. She had tried her best to dress more maturely, but unfortunately, people still kept bringing it up. In the law firm, being young was not a good thing; instead, it made people question one's abilities and professionalism.
"Haha, Attorney Sheffield's looks are a huge advantage."
Remembering that his colleagues in the United States had praised Sheffield's youth and talent more than once, he quickly put aside his doubts.
After a few pleasantries, Qin Suisui turned to the side and pointed to Wen Zong, who was following closely behind her.
"Director Dong, this is Wen Zongwen, an attorney from our firm. Attorney Wen has been with Lawrence for many years and is a highly experienced litigation lawyer with an extremely high success rate."
Dong Shu extended his hand: "Hello, Lawyer Wen!"
"Hello, Director Dong!"
Wen Zong stepped forward and gently shook Dong Shu's hands with both of his, then let go and stepped back a few steps to stand half a step behind Qin Suisui.
"Let's not talk here. Let's go to my office and sit down to discuss this in detail."
Dong Shu led the way, taking the two to his office.
He pushed open the office door and gestured for the two to sit down, then pressed the intercom button: "Secretary Xu, bring three cups of coffee to my office."
Dong Shu hung up the phone and walked over to the two of them, sitting down on the single sofa opposite them.
"Attorney Xie Fei has been away from Huating for five years. What are your immediate feelings about returning?"
"Changes are happening every day!"
Qin Suisui's expression softened. These were her true feelings. In just five years, Huating had undergone tremendous changes. Everything had changed, yet it seemed unchanged. Exquisite, modern, and magnificent were all words to describe Huating today.
The two chatted idly about the changes in Huating.
Dong Shu discovered that Attorney Xie Fei had an extremely rich and wide range of knowledge. No matter what topic he brought up, Attorney Xie Fei could respond and had very unique insights.
He looked at Sheffield with a smile, who was chatting and laughing at ease. Sheffield, the new executive of the Law Offices of R.R. Dunn, was even more outstanding than he had imagined. She was composed, generous, and radiant, a rare combination of talent and good looks.
He knew nothing about Sheffield; he had only gone to M for a private business event and happened to chat with a colleague about the insane lawsuit.
The M country colleagues at the time had mixed feelings, expressing both regret and admiration as they spoke about the lawsuits handled by Sheffield.
“We have carefully analyzed Sheffield’s three most noteworthy lawsuits. The points the other party makes are very tricky. If I were to take them on…”
My counterpart from Country M shook his head with a wry smile: "I can't even guarantee a third!"
