The short, thin man realized upon hearing the order that this kid must be related to the thing that Wiz was looking for on the higher-ups. He'd heard that the thing they were looking for had a huge bounty on the dark web, and they might even be able to get a chance to stay at the Mix Lighthouse. That would mean not only a life of comfort but also permanent safety.
A thought struck him, and his gaze toward Bleta hardened. He took out a compass-like device and operated it for a few moments, faintly emitting a wavelength channel. The giant spider, which had been attacking Bleta purely on instinct, suddenly seemed to receive a command and became purposeful, changing direction and beginning to spit out thick, sticky white spider silk toward Bleta, who was kneeling on one knee.
Knowing the power of the spider silk, Blaita rolled away to dodge. After several evasions, the spider seized the opportunity and spun silk from both sides of Blaita simultaneously. Blaita had great difficulty dodging, and even though his saliva had a digestive and corrosive effect, it couldn't produce that much silk in a short time.
Bryta had no choice but to turn and flee deeper into the cemetery behind him, frantically dodging one dangerous strand of spider silk after another, relying on instinct.
Without turning around, one could tell that the tombstone behind him was probably stuck with a lot of spider webs.
Bryta felt a pang of guilt for disturbing the peace of the deceased, but if he didn't run faster, he might also perish here—or rather, end up inside the spider's belly.
Just as he was thinking, he was momentarily distracted, and the giant spider used a trick to stick to him and attack from all sides. When Blaita tried to dodge through the only opening, he was hit by a spider web, and his feet were tightly bound by the web! He hurriedly tried to spit, but another spider web flew over and stuck his mouth shut!
"Ughhhhh!!!" He watched in fear as the giant spider drew closer and closer to him. The more he tried to spit out corrosive saliva, the more painful it felt as if his tongue was being tightly stuck and pulled.
What to do? What to do?!
He was so anxious that tears welled up in his eyes. As he struggled to move backward, he suddenly felt the coldness of the tombstone. He turned his head and saw that the place where the photo was placed was stuck to cobwebs. He could only vaguely make out a few Chinese characters for San Francisco Asian Union and the English letter K.
"Hey, how come you just happened to bump into Klindall's tombstone?" The man's voice came again.
Bretta was startled by what she heard, and then she noticed some withered white roses and offerings at her feet.
Bretta looked down at the white rose he was clutching tightly in his hand. For some reason, there were thorns on the stem, which pricked his palm and drew blood. Instead of flowing down, the blood seemed to be sucked away by the stem!
Bretta stared in shock, only then feeling the pain. He quickly let go, but the petals that had sucked his blood began to turn faintly red, and vines and green leaves gradually grew and wrapped around him.
In that instant, he felt as if he could understand the inner voice of the mutated rose.
Sensing his rejection, it gently clung to him, rubbing against his face in a coquettish manner, and soon sucked away the still-damp blood from his forehead.
No, please stop smoking.
He subconsciously spoke to it in his mind. The flower actually understood, and it really stopped unwillingly, but its vines did not stop growing. In a short while, it had grown to more than a meter long, and the petals of the flower with interspersed branches and leaves were faintly pink. It rushed into Bryta's arms all at once.
The short, thin man also saw the mutated rose and became suspicious. He didn't know what was going on, but plant mutations had become quite common, so he didn't think much of it. His main thought was to capture the kid in front of him.
Bretta then noticed that the spider had completely stopped attacking and was standing behind the man. He suddenly realized that the spider had just been controlled by this man. But how could that be? Bretta noticed the instrument in the man's hand.
He felt a sense of relief, thinking that at least this man wouldn't eat him for the time being, but what was he supposed to do if he didn't eat him?
Did they find out his true identity wasn't human? They should have killed him immediately...
No, he can control aliens.
Bretta realized for the first time that this person was different from the neighbor and Cheng Cheng; they were different.
Just then, another man emerged from the darkness. When Bleta saw his face clearly, her pupils slowly widened, and she instinctively felt fear. However, his mouth was tightly glued shut by spider silk, and she couldn't say a word.
He recognized the man; this man had once been to the lab where he was imprisoned and experimented on!
He stood outside the petri dish, clad in a cold white protective suit, watching indifferently as it and its companions endured various forms of experimental torture. Several times, it witnessed the mutated, crazed mice suddenly burst open, turning the entire petri dish crimson with bits of flesh.
Weak and frightened, it huddled in the corner of the petri dish and could only glimpse the man's cold eyes through its blurry vision. It also saw another man in front of it, whose face was obscured, smiling as he said something that seemed quite ordinary: "Failed again? Let's try another one."
Bretta trembled with fear at the images of the laboratory, and his emotions seemed to affect the rose clinging to him; its once pink petals faded and turned white again. The flower nestled behind Bretta, gently scratching his back as if to comfort its owner.
Looking at the trembling boy in front of him, Wiz was almost certain that the boy knew him, but he had almost no recollection of the boy.
Wiz had investigated the boy's background beforehand, but almost all the information had been suppressed by the Sub-Alliance, leaving it as clean as a blank sheet of paper.
He stared coldly at Bryta. Now there was reason to suspect that the Easton test subject might be in Klindall's hands. But back then, he had personally destroyed Klindall's entire team that had penetrated deep into the Ashan base, including that man, and they still hadn't found the Easton test subject.
He stared intently at the cold, hard tombstone leaning against Britta's back, and sneered, "A man who died in the belly of a snake actually has a tombstone."
“Let go of his mouth,” he gestured to the short, thin man beside him.
"This..." The man holding the instrument hesitated for a moment, but after receiving a warning look from Weiss, he immediately lowered his head and obeyed, controlling the alien spider to retract the bundle of spider silk, while simultaneously spitting out another bundle to tightly bind Bretta's hands.
Bretta was released and gasped for breath, looking up at him more warily.
Waits looked down at him and asked coldly, "Do you know me?"
"N-no, I don't know him." Bletta began, only to find his voice hoarse and trembling slightly. It wasn't very convincing. The tall, brown-haired man before him clearly didn't believe him, but didn't want to dwell on it.
"Where is Easton's experimental subject?" Wiz asked bluntly.
Bretta was startled by what she heard, her almond-shaped eyes widening as she thought: Isn't that his name?
This person really came to take him back to continue the experiments!
But he suddenly calmed down and quickly realized that the other party did not know that he had turned into a human.
How did you find him?
Before Bretta could figure it out, the man suddenly pulled out a gun and pressed it against his forehead: "Speak."
Having witnessed the power of human firearms, Blaita trembled with fear.
At the same time, Bryta felt the white roses, which were quietly covering his feet and hands with spider silk, seemingly trying to cut and corrode the spider silk bit by bit with their sharp thorns and the thick white sap oozing from their roots...
Wiz stared intently at him as he prepared to pull the trigger.
“Me!” Bryta suddenly exclaimed.
"I don't know!" In that instant, his body was freed from its restraints, and he quickly leaped to the side and back.
"Bang!" A gunshot rang out in the cold, empty cemetery.
Almost as soon as he thought of it, a bunch of rose vines swiftly reached out and grabbed Wiz's gun-wielding hand, attempting to take the gun away!
"Bang! Bang bang!!" A ruthless glint flashed in Wiz's eyes. In the struggle with the vines, he did not hesitate to continue firing several shots at the direction where Bryta was dodging!
Bretta dodged quickly, but his opponent seemed to have anticipated his movements. Just as he was about to be shot, a rose vine swiftly stepped forward to deflect the bullet, buying him a split second to narrowly avoid being hit. Cold sweat beaded on his forehead. He immediately fled deeper into another path outside the cemetery, the rose vine, seemingly alive, quickly wrapping around Bretta's waist and following closely behind.
The man standing behind the spider was almost dumbfounded.
Wiz fired several more shots in anger, then flew out and disappeared into the night.
He immediately turned around and yelled at the man next to him, "Idiot! Hurry up and chase after them!"
As Blaita desperately fled forward, using the vines to quickly move forward, two men in hot pursuit rode on the giant spider's back, while a hail of bullets and several strands of spider silk hurtled towards him!
Even with his nimble and agile movements, Britta was unable to defend against such a dense attack and was quickly shot in the shoulder.
The vines sensed his hand keenly and extended a small vine, connected to the branches and leaves, to block his wound, while also quietly sucking his blood.
Bleta sensed it, but knew it was helping her. She suspected that her blood was its nourishment, and if it couldn't hold on, she would probably be finished too.
Fear of death gripped him as he frantically fled through the darkness, eventually entering the slums. Here, houses of varying heights stood scattered, interspersed with illegal structures and makeshift shacks.
The wounded Britta slowed down, and the bullets from the man behind him stopped. He leaped onto a rooftop. The spider, three or four meters tall, quickly attracted attention even in the slums, and the commotion and screams behind him were deafening.
Bryta frowned, fearing someone might get hurt. He quickly leaped to a less crowded spot, only to be relentlessly pursued. Just then, the rose vines wrapped around him swiftly attacked, extending nearly dozens of meters, narrowly avoiding the spider silk, and struck the hand of the man operating the device. They immediately shattered the device, then burst open their flower buds and plunged them deep into the man's chest, piercing him through. The buds then quickly withdrew and darted back to Bryta's side, their stamens stained with crimson blood.
As the short, thin man opened his eyes in terror and tried to fall off the giant spider that was running at full speed, the spider had already lost control. It used its two chelicerae to tightly wrap the man with its silk and swallowed him whole into its moving mouthparts!
Upon seeing this, Wiz realized that the spider had gone out of control. He quickly leaped off the nearly four-meter-tall spider, rolled to his knees, and stopped. He then saw Blaita fleeing in the distance.
He immediately turned on his headset, suppressed his anger, tuned to the wavelength that controlled the alien species, and manipulated the spider to continue its pursuit of Blaita.
The rose vines seemed to sense his weakness and dared not suck the blood from his shoulder anymore. Having exhausted themselves along the way, their forms slowly shrank, appearing extremely weak. Bretta was chased relentlessly by the giant spider, until she reached a rooftop seven or eight stories high, where she had nowhere else to go.
He gritted his teeth and, as the vines flew out and wrapped around the opposite window, he gripped the vines tightly with both hands, leaped into the air, and swung in an arc in the darkness, barely dodging the spider's silk. He crashed into the glass of a certain floor and fell inside along with the shattered glass on the ground!
"Splash—"
Lin Dao, who was conducting an investigation at the home of a survivor of the Easton Laboratory in the slums, sensed the commotion in the air a few seconds earlier. His ears twitched slightly, and almost subconsciously, he looked up and stood up. The moment the glass window shattered, he teleported to the window, reached out and caught the boy who was being thrown at him with both hands. He immediately turned around, blocking all the flying and shattering glass shards, and stood tall and resolute, holding the boy by the window.
As shards of broken glass scattered throughout the room, Bleta felt a broad, warm arm. She breathed weakly, carefully opened her eyes slightly, and paused, seeing the man's face up close for the first time.
"Sir... please save me..." The injured boy's eyes instantly turned red, and he pleaded with him in a tearful voice.
Lin Dao's heart skipped a beat, and then he sensed something huge rapidly climbing the wall and approaching them.
Bryta felt it too and shrank back in his arms.
Lin Dao reached out and gripped the boy's shoulder, giving him a strong and reassuring strength, then calmly looked up at the approaching danger outside the window.
"Don't be afraid, I'll protect you," he said in a deep voice.
