On Sunday morning, after having a hearty breakfast, Jiang Chen went to Lide's laboratory as usual.
After recording the new experimental data and refreshing the database of the Yangtze River system, Jiang Chen did not continue programming the security system as usual, but sat in front of the computer desk, thinking.
After leaving school yesterday, they drove to the 17th Military Research Institute located in the northern suburbs of Yan City. He stayed there for nearly seven hours and only left after having dinner in the institute's cafeteria.
After returning home, in order to test the intrusion function of the Yangtze River system, Jiang Chen used it to quietly invade the surveillance system near the school. Unexpectedly, he found He Yanfeng's car on the street opposite the school gate. The car had been parked there since five o'clock in the afternoon. When school was over at five-thirty, He Yanfeng and Yang Yun got out of the car, seemingly waiting for someone at the school gate. Just when Jiang Chen thought they were waiting for He Qianmin, he saw them stop a senior boy. The boy seemed to say something to them. He Yanfeng and Yang Yun went straight back to the car and drove away.
He Qianmin walked out of the school gate half an hour after they left. Playing basketball for half an hour after school was a habit He Qianmin had when he was in Chenghua. He Yanfeng and his wife couldn't have been unaware of this, so they left early and were definitely not waiting for He Qianmin.
Thinking of what he heard yesterday about the cancellation of He Qianjian’s birthday party, Jiang Chen frowned slightly and had a vague guess in his mind.
The cell phone suddenly rang. Jiang Chen came back to his senses and smiled after seeing who was calling: "Mom."
Yang Si's smiling voice came through the microphone: "Chenchen, are you at the Lide Group in Chengyang Plaza now?"
"right."
"I'm here at the square now. It's almost noon. You should go back with your mother."
Jiang Chen was stunned, stood up and walked to the window to look down: "Are you alone? Where's Dad?"
"Your father is cooking for you at home. He said he wants to show off his cooking skills and make sure you have an unforgettable 18th birthday. And..." She lowered her voice and whispered, "Your father has been very secretive recently. When you are not at home, he always locks himself in the small workshop. I suspect he is secretly preparing a gift for you."
Jiang Chen bent his eyes, turned around, picked up his coat, and walked out while smiling: "Then do you know what gift he prepared for me?"
"He did a great job keeping it a secret." Yang Si complained with a smile, "Not only you, he also kept it a secret from me. A few nights ago, I secretly got up to go to his workshop to see what he was doing, but he woke up as soon as I moved. So now I don't know what he has prepared."
Jiang Chen pressed the elevator button, "Then we'll find out today."
While waiting for the elevator, Li Nanfeng came down from another elevator and saw Jiang Chen standing outside the door. He jumped out with one step, smiled, raised the small gift box in his hand, shook it, and stuffed it into his hand: "Happy birthday!"
Jiang Chen smiled and thanked him. Li Nanfeng said, "Who are you talking to on the phone? Do you want to have lunch together? I came down specially to have lunch with you."
"My mom." Jiang Chen invited, "She's waiting for me downstairs now. My dad has already prepared lunch at home. If Brother Li has nothing to do in the afternoon, you can come to my house for lunch together."
"What can I do for you?" Li Nanfeng agreed immediately. "But I have to go get the car first. If your aunt is downstairs, go find her first. I'll be there soon and I can drive you there."
The elevator reached the first floor, Jiang Chen walked out of the elevator and said, "We'll wait for you at the north gate."
Li Nanfeng shook the car keys, raised his eyebrows and smiled: "Remember to look at the gift I gave you."
Jiang Chen took out the small box from his pocket, chuckled when he saw the sports car key inside, took it out and said, "Thanks."
The elevator door slowly closed, and Li Nanfeng's voice came from inside: "Is this the biggest surprise for your birthday today?"
Jiang Chen laughed, put away the car keys and walked out.
As soon as he walked out of the lobby, Jiang Chen saw Yang Si. She was sitting by the fountain in the center of the square, talking and smiling to the woman with the little girl.
"mom!"
Yang Si turned around and immediately smiled when she saw Jiang Chen. She stood up and waved at him: "Mom is here—" Before she could finish her words, her pupils suddenly shrank, and she covered her stomach and ran over here: "Chenchen!"
Jiang Chen turned around quickly and saw a van without a license plate rushing into the square from the road. It was heading straight towards him. It was less than ten meters away and was about to hit him.
"Mom! Don't come over here!"
The sound of tires rubbing against the ground was getting closer and closer. In addition to Yang Si's voice, there seemed to be another familiar voice. Jiang Chen didn't have time to listen carefully. He rolled sideways neatly and almost stuck to the side of the van's front tire to avoid the car.
Before Jiang Chen could stand up, he saw, amidst a cry of surprise, that the van that had just rushed past had turned around and was heading towards him again.
Yang Sigang breathed a sigh of relief, but was horrified when he saw this scene: "Minister, minister!"
Another exclamation sounded almost at the same time: "Little Minister!"
Jiang Chen had no time to pay attention to anything other than the sound of the tires rubbing against the ground. He glanced at the face of the strange man in the car, quickly glanced at the surrounding environment, turned around and ran to the side.
The van kept chasing after the man, and even passers-by could see that this was not an accident but a premeditated murder.
Yang Si covered her stomach and tried to rush to Jiang Chen, but the woman who had just spoken to her pulled her arm back: "You can't go over there, it's too dangerous!"
"That's my son!" Yang Si broke free from the woman's hand. All he could see was Jiang Chen being chased by a van. His eyes were red. "Let me go! That's my son..."
"There's another one in your belly! You can't ignore the one in your belly!"
"Let me go!"
Onlookers also rushed over to help, and someone advised: "Sister, we have called the police, the police will be here soon, don't worry, nothing will happen."
"Yes, Auntie, please don't get too excited. It's not good for the baby in your belly."
Several people joined forces to grab Yang Si and took her to a safe place. On the other side of the square, driver Uncle Wang also grabbed Yang Yun and advised earnestly: "You really can't go over there, Xiao Yang, it's too dangerous over there, it's useless even if you rush over!"
Yang Yun couldn't break free. Seeing that the van was still chasing Jiang Chen, she was so anxious that tears fell: "Let me go, Xiaochen is my son, he is my biological son! Let me go, I have to save him..."
Uncle Wang was stunned, his brain slow to react. In the blink of an eye, Yang Yun had already broken free from him and ran over there.
“Xiao Yang!” Uncle Wang was in his prime, and he immediately caught up with her. He didn’t care about what Yang Yun had just said, and held her tightly, refusing to let go, and urged her anxiously: “Think about Xiao He, Qian Jian, Qian Min, and Qian Yu, don’t be impulsive…”
Although the people watching in the square were all far away, there were more and more of them, and some people even started recording videos with their mobile phones.
Seeing out of the corner of his eye that a passerby had already pulled out his cell phone to call the police, the van owner cursed inwardly and stepped on the accelerator to accelerate towards the teenager in front of him. However, the teenager was not only agile, but also seemed to have eyes on the back of his head. Before the car hit him, he supported himself with one hand on the black sedan next to him, jumped and rolled lightly, and landed on the ground on the other side of the car, once again avoiding the possibility of being crushed.
After repeated failures, the van owner broke out in sweat on his forehead, but when he thought of the huge commission after the transaction was completed, a fierce light flashed in his eyes. He stepped on the accelerator and crashed directly into the black sedan in front.
The loud crash of two cars colliding was heard in the square. Yang Si covered his stomach with his hands, his eyes bloodshot. He pushed away the hands of passers-by and ran forward: "Minister! Minister!"
Seeing the almost deformed black car in front of him, the van owner wiped the blood off his head, sneered, and reversed to escape.
However, just after turning the steering wheel, he heard a "click" sound from the passenger door. He turned around and saw the young man standing beside the car intact, having already stepped into the car.
The van owner was startled and no longer cared about the money. He stepped on the accelerator and wanted to run away immediately.
Jiang Chen pushed forward with his arms and got into the car. He punched the van owner on the temples with one fist and controlled the steering wheel with his other hand. Before the van owner could react, he grabbed his head and hit it hard on the steering wheel several times.
The tires scraped across the ground with a sharp "sizzling" sound, and the car braked before hitting another car.
The man's head hit the steering wheel heavily due to inertia. Jiang Chen stabilized himself early, turned the head of the man with blood on his face, and said in a very cold voice: "Who sent you?"
The broken glass on the steering wheel pierced the van owner's eyes and scratched his face. The severe pain made him scream uncontrollably. Jiang Chen seemed unable to hear his cries and got no response, so he grabbed his head and slammed it against the steering wheel again.
Just before the collision, the van owner shouted hoarsely, "I'll tell you everything!"
Jiang Chen stopped and held his hand but did not let go.
"It was the one before..."
"A pregnant woman fainted! Has the ambulance arrived yet?"
The screams and panic sounds outside the car were mixed together, but this sound, which was a little further away, still reached Jiang Chen's ears. He paused, immediately let go of the man and jumped out of the car.
Jiang Chen pushed through the crowd and saw Yang Si lying on the ground, his eyes instantly turned red.
"mom!"
"The ambulance will be here soon." The woman squatting beside Yang Si and taking care of her said, "They said it will only take five minutes."
Jiang Chen nodded, took a deep breath, took off his clothes and covered Yang Si with them, carefully felt her pulse, and only after finding out that she had simply fainted did his fear ease a little.
"Jiang Chen!" Li Nanfeng rushed in. Seeing that Jiang Chen was in a mess but not injured, he breathed a sigh of relief. "I was waiting for you at the north gate just now but didn't see you. I heard that someone hit someone with a car here, so I came here immediately. What happened?"
Jiang Chen shook his head and was about to speak when he felt Yang Si move: "Mom!"
Yang Si slowly opened his eyes, and after seeing Jiang Chen clearly, he sat up instantly. With trembling hands, he grabbed him and looked him up and down several times: "Are you okay? Are you injured anywhere? Why is there blood on your hands? Where are you injured?"
"I'm fine, I just got scratched." Jiang Chen grabbed Yang Si's hand and said softly, "I'm fine, mom. Look, I'm fine here. I'm really fine. These are just superficial injuries."
Yang Si found that Jiang Chen was not seriously injured except for being scratched by glass and some abrasions, so she hugged him tightly, her voice full of fear and sobs: "You scared your mother to death..."
Jiang Chen hugged his mother's trembling shoulders, and the fear and worry in his heart gradually dissipated: "Are you feeling unwell? How does your stomach feel?"
Yang Si reached out and touched his abdomen, and his tense shoulders relaxed. "I just fainted from shock, but didn't fall. I should be fine."
Jiang Chen breathed a sigh of relief, and the sound of an ambulance came closer and closer.
The doctors and nurses carried Yang Si on a stretcher to the ambulance. When Jiang Chen followed, he saw another ambulance carrying another person. The exposed corner of his clothes looked familiar. He paused and asked, "What's going on over there?"
"He fainted, probably because he was frightened." The nurse saw Jiang Chen's hand still dripping with blood and said worriedly, "Get in the car quickly. Your hand needs stitches right away."
Jiang Chen didn't think any more and turned to get into the ambulance.
