Yan Yi just held her like that, without even looking at the surroundings.
He didn't want to force her, nor did he want her first time to be so hasty, even though he longed to turn the illusion into reality.
In his hallucination, the bed curtains were drawn; he didn't want Jia Jue to see a single inch of her skin.
The next morning, only a bewildered Mu Xiaoyu and a dumbfounded Jia Jue remained.
He walked out in a daze, without telling anyone about it or saying another word to Mu Xiaoyu.
Mu Xiaoyu then began a life of being harassed by Grandmother Jia and ignored by Father Jia.
Because she felt she had wronged Jia Jue first, and he hadn't exposed the matter, she kept quiet about it.
It became a habit to endure it.
I got up early in the morning to work, and I never stopped, no matter if it was raining or thundering. Sometimes I was even punished by being made to kneel, sometimes under the sun, sometimes in the pouring rain.
Jia Jue was unaware of all that had happened, because he didn't want to know anything about her; whenever he thought of her, he thought of what had happened that day.
Yan Yi knew some of this. He would come back to check on her from time to time, but he didn't try to stop her. He was looking for a way and waiting for her to compromise with him. As long as she was completely disgusted with this place, he would take her away.
Mu Xiaoyu ate worse food than she did at home every day, and she did so much work every day. Gradually, her body couldn't take it anymore, and she never recovered from this illness.
She contracted an incurable disease, and while she was suffering from it, she was constantly being bossed around by Grandmother Jia. Her already short lifespan was now shortened even further.
That morning, just as dawn was breaking, she lay in bed, struggled to open her eyes, glanced at the door, listened to the pounding knocks, and fell asleep again, never to wake up again.
Just before she closed her eyes, she saw a figure, but she closed them before she could see it clearly.
Perhaps when she looked at the door, she wasn't actually hearing a knock, but rather thinking how ridiculous it was that neither of the two men who supposedly liked her had shown up even once!
She didn't see it clearly, but Shen Hua did; it was the person standing behind her.
The maid knocked on the door for a long time, and when no one answered, she broke down the door and saw that she was still asleep. She went up and shoved her a few times, but when she still didn't react, she prepared to take her off.
What are you doing?
"Young Master, this is a message from Madam."
Jia Jue saw the pale-faced man on the bed with red eyes, rushed over, pushed the maid away, and roared, "Get out!"
The maids were also terrified, having never seen their young master so angry before, and they all ran out in fear.
They were all puzzled. Didn't the young master dislike this woman? Otherwise, why would he have abandoned her after marrying her?
Jia Jue looked at Mu Xiaoyu, wanting to touch her but not daring to, feeling extremely distressed. He never expected her to become like this.
She was a young mistress, and she would never be bullied like this, but he didn't know that he was the culprit.
"Yes! How come you weren't bullied like this? It's all because I was deceiving myself and staying out of the public eye, which is also a form of acceptance."
"Little Fish, it wasn't your fault. How could I be so confused and stubborn, causing you to end up like this? I'm sorry, Little Fish, I'll never do it again."
He muttered something to himself and slowly approached Mu Xiaoyu, wanting to hug her. Only after he hugged her did he realize that something was wrong with the person in his arms.
"Little fish, little fish, don't scare me."
He considered a possibility, and cautiously put his finger under her nose, then withdrew his hand in shock, tears welling up in his eyes.
"Little Fish, this isn't true, is it? I just figured it out, and now I've lost my chance."
"Little Fish, I was wrong, it's all my fault, please don't go, please."
He held her tightly, crying his heart out, his arms around her so tightly he didn't want to let go for even a moment, and kept saying it wasn't true.
At this moment, Grandmother Jia rushed in with several maids and servants. When she saw her son's condition, she quickly went to him.
"Jue'er, she's sick. You should leave quickly, or she might pass on her illness to you."
As he spoke, he gestured with his eyes for the two junior officers to come forward and take him away.
As soon as the person arrived in front of Jia Jue, Jia Jue became excited.
"Go away, go away, I don't want to see you, go away! Little Fish is fine, she's perfectly fine, just like before, so lively."
Seeing her son like this, Grandmother Jia was worried that it would upset him. She could now see that Mu Xiaoyu had not been able to hold on and had died.
So she glared at the maids, realizing that it was their failure to stop him that allowed Jue'er to witness this scene at such an inopportune time.
This could cause Jue'er to misunderstand her, and their mother-son relationship would also be affected.
But now that it has already happened, she can only try her best to find a way to make amends.
She knew her son best; she knew that force wouldn't work at this point, so she had to use a gentler approach. She went up to him and said softly:
"Jue'er, yes, she's fine, she's just asleep. You can leave now, so you'll see her lively and energetic tomorrow."
"Pfft."
Jia Jue didn't hear what she said. He was so sad that he spat out a mouthful of blood and collapsed.
"Quick, quick, help the young master up."
Grandmother Jia was shocked and rushed over to hold him to prevent him from falling to the ground. However, Jia Jue was holding Mu Xiaoyu, and the weight of the two of them falling together was considerable.
Because she was moving too fast, Grandmother Jia barely managed to catch the person, but she twisted her back as a result.
"Hey, what are you all doing? Hurry up and help the young master up, and go find a doctor."
The maid Xiao Si was extremely busy. The scene then shifted to Jia Jue, who, despite his serious illness, still allowed Mu Xiaoyu to have a grand funeral. Meanwhile, Grandmother Jia was sobbing uncontrollably, and Father Jia had a dark expression throughout.
Mu Xiaoyu was dressed in gorgeous clothes, the best clothes she had ever worn in her life. Her face was made up, her eyes were closed, and she looked exceptionally attractive before being placed in a coffin.
Just as the coffin was about to be completely closed, a chilling wind rose up, even stronger than the one Shen Hua had experienced.
The wind made their hair stand on end and their backs feel cold. Then, they were blown away and fell in all directions. Jia Jue was blown directly into a corner, where he coughed up another mouthful of blood, his face turning even paler, and he looked like he was about to die.
The coffin lid that was about to be closed was blown away and crashed heavily to the ground with a deafening sound, but no one had time to care about that.
Jia Jue saw it and wanted to go up, but he was powerless to resist and even coughed up blood again. He leaned against the corner of the wall, struggling to breathe.
Suddenly, a figure appeared on top of the coffin, holding someone in his arms—Mu Xiaoyu, who had been lying in the coffin before.
