When Xiao Changqi came out of the Imperial Study after finishing his official duties, he saw a pink little bird perched on a tree, having been waiting for some time.
"Chirp chirp." Seeing the door to the Imperial Study open, Yuan Dan only glanced back before turning away to continue contemplating life.
"Your Majesty, I shall take my leave." The ministers followed Xiao Changqi's gaze and saw the round little bird perched on the tree.
It's easy to guess that this is Yuanyuan, the little bird that His Majesty dotes on.
Xiao Changqi's gaze never left the little bird: "Hmm."
Once the ministers had all gone far away, Xiao Changqi leaped up, grabbed the little bird, and held it in his hand, asking, "How did it get here?"
New Year's Day flapped its wings: "Chirp chirp chirp."
Xiao Changqi carried the little bird back to his palace, closed the door, and dismissed the palace servants: "Have you had dinner yet?"
"No." Yuan Dan shook his head, and Xiao Dou looked at him with a hint of hesitation in her eyes.
Xiao Changqi patted the little bird's head and softened his voice: "What's wrong?"
"fine."
On New Year's Day, you can't ask your partner if they believe they almost became husband and wife in their past life.
Xiao Changqi had someone serve him food. Things were different now; Xiao Niao had been training more than twice as much as she had in the Prince's mansion. However, she was thinking about losing weight on New Year's Day, so she had been restricting her diet.
Now that it's no longer snowing, people started doing aerobics again on New Year's Day.
She even dared to ask His Majesty to jump with her.
“You spend your days either sitting in the Golden Palace attending court or handling state affairs in the Imperial Study. In time, you’ll definitely become a fat and bloated emperor,” Yuan Dan said to the man while doing aerobics.
Xiao Changqi held a scroll in one hand and a serving of alms for the birds in the other, his expression stern: "Losing weight is fine, but you're not allowed to go without food."
"I ate them!" Yuandan retorted loudly, "I ate five gluten balls tonight!"
Xiao Changqi: "There used to be seven."
The little bird wriggled and muttered softly, "Wasn't that to save you money?"
Hearing the chirping of the little bird, Xiao Changqi's heart softened like a cabbage that had been soaking for too long: "I don't need you to save me money."
"Then I won't eat it either." Yuan Dan turned her face away, resolutely refusing to eat the gluten the man was feeding her.
"Xiao Yuanyuan." Xiao Changqi rubbed his temples, completely helpless against the little bird who was making a fuss about dieting.
Yuan Dan glanced at the man's face and, seeing that he seemed displeased, immediately changed her mind: "I can eat it if you want."
Xiao Changqi poked the mischievous little bird, who seemed to be plotting something again: "Tell me your conditions."
"I want to hear you read a storybook."
Even the concubines are not allowed to enter His Majesty's living quarters, let alone a small pet.
Therefore, he and the sparrow stayed in the palace not far from the Hall of Mental Cultivation for the past few days during the New Year's Day holiday.
Yuandan didn't really want to hear him read storybooks. After all, she knew that being an emperor was very tiring. He had to manage countless affairs every day and deal with politics when he got home at night.
She only heard from the eunuch beside Xiao Changqi that the man hadn't had a proper night's sleep for several days, so she wanted to hold onto him and watch him fall asleep.
"What story do you want to hear?" Xiao Changqi didn't realize that his patience with the little bird was getting better and better.
He picked up a book at random and discovered it was a memorial to the throne.
Normally, his study would have a few storybooks that birds like, but now his desk was piled high with memorials and documents concerning government affairs.
He then realized that he had indeed neglected the bird these past few days.
"I'll have someone send over a few storybooks." Xiao Changqi stood up and went to call his attendant.
“No need.” Yuan Dan quickly stopped him. “If you don’t have any storybooks, then I’ll tell you a story.”
