On New Year's Day, she never told the man who she was or where she came from.
The next morning.
Before dawn, rustling sounds could be heard from inside the room.
The man got up.
She hadn't slept well on New Year's Day, so she woke up as soon as the man got up.
The little bird didn't make a sound; it just obediently squatted on the bed watching the man wash up, put on his general's armor, and tie up his hair crown.
Xiao Changqi turned around and met the little bird's unwavering gaze. He paused for a moment, then reached out and picked up the little bird.
"Would you like me to leave the city?" The man's deep voice sounded above her head.
Yuandan nodded: "Chirp."
She woke up so early to prevent the man from leaving without saying goodbye.
In other words, he wanted to personally escort him out of the city.
She instructed the servants to prepare breakfast for the little bird, and then, carrying her little bundle on her back, she squatted on the man's head, looking down at everyone with an air of superiority.
When the old steward saw the little bird on the prince's head, he paused for a moment but said nothing and sent Xiao Changqi out of the mansion as planned.
"Your Highness, please rest assured, this old servant will take good care of everything in the manor and will always be ready to welcome Your Highness back."
"Um."
Xiao Changqi had already explained everything to the head steward last night, so the man nodded slightly and then mounted the horse that the servant had brought over.
A cold wind swept through the still-dark sky, raising dust on the official road outside the city. Hundreds of soldiers were fully equipped and ready to go, waiting only for their general's order to rush to Tongzhou.
It was Xiao Yan's first time accompanying the army on a campaign, so he arrived a little early. Although he was accompanying the army as a supervisor, he was wearing a general's battle robe.
Clearly, the other side did not intend to simply remain in the rear as a military supervisor who did nothing all day but keep an eye on the generals.
Yuan Qing got drunk last night and arrived a little late this morning, but he didn't expect that someone else would arrive even later than him.
"Has the prince not arrived yet?"
Sun Jianchou held a bird egg in his hands, shook his head calmly, and said, "Not yet."
"The prince has no family members in his residence, so why is he so late?" Luo Feng asked, equally puzzled.
“Who said we don’t have family?” Sun Jianchou smiled meaningfully. “Look, here they are.”
The group looked toward the city gate and saw a man galloping toward them on horseback. The silver spear on his back gleamed coldly, and the sharpened tip seemed to still carry the lingering scent of blood and killing intent.
The person who arrived was none other than Xiao Changqi.
Luo Feng and the others pulled on the reins and went to greet him, saying, "Your Highness."
"Hmm," Xiao Changqi replied indifferently.
"Your Highness, you're late today." Sun Jianchou glanced lightly at the pink tail tip on Xiao Changqi's head with a half-smile.
"Something came up," Xiao Changqi said expressionlessly.
It's actually not a big deal.
He did leave early today, but the silver spear he used on the battlefield had been stored in the armory since he returned to the capital, and had been gathering dust for a long time. Only today did this silver spear, which had been with him for many years, see the light of day again.
On New Year's Day, I had seen the man wield a sword, but I had never seen him use a spear, so out of curiosity, I touched the tip of the silver spear with my wing.
However, he was cut by the sharp tip of the spear.
The little bird was stunned. Xiao Changqi hadn't expected the little bird to be so bold as to reach out and stretch its wings to touch the spearhead.
Although the silver spear was sealed in the armory, it was kept in perfect condition.
Birds do have a lot of feathers, but their wings are used for flying, so they have sparse feathers to reduce weight. Wings are also a rather vulnerable part of birds.
"Chirp!"
My wings...!
The birds’ startled cries echoed almost throughout the entire armory.
Xiao Changqi strode forward, scooped up the little bird, and called out, "Summon the Imperial Physician."
