Chapter 2 Chirp Chirp

Having read half of the original novel, I actually quite like Xiao Changqi—also known as the Gan King—even though he eventually ascended to the throne and became a tyrant in the eyes of the people and court officials.

But I still think Xiao Changqi is incredibly cool on New Year's Day!

But reading a book is one thing, while being transported into the book and becoming a little bird about to be given to a future tyrant is quite another.

In the original novel, Xiao Changqi was a true tyrant!

Otherwise, he wouldn't have ended up being universally hated and abandoned in a mass grave after his death.

However, as a little bird that can only chirp, New Year's Day has no right to refuse.

The maid noticed that the little bird in the cage was visibly slumped over and thought it was hungry, so she quickly grabbed a handful of beans and put them into a small dish.

On New Year's Day, I lazily lifted my eyelids and glanced at the beans and rice in the small square dish, unmoved.

Seeing that Pink Ball was lying motionless like a dead bird, the maid couldn't help but ask worriedly, "Yuanyuan, why aren't you eating?"

Yuandan secretly rolled her eyes. She wasn't a real bird, so she wouldn't eat these things.

"Could it be that she's sick?" The maid was a little anxious. Yuanyuan was the pet that the master was going to give to the Prince Gan. If she got sick, the master would definitely blame them.

“Don’t talk nonsense. Doctor Fang came to see it this morning and said the little bird is perfectly fine,” another maid said. “I think it’s just sleepy.”

"But……"

On New Year's Day, while listening to the two maids chatting away, he actually fell asleep before long.

That's quite a big heart.

While she was still having a sweet dream, she was sent to the Prince Gan's residence.

When I opened my eyes again, I was met with a pair of cold and deep eyes.

"Chirp!" Yuan Dan was completely startled awake by the sinister glint in the other's eyes. She let out a cry and flapped her wings, "whoosh," and stuck to the cage.

The man looked at the pink ball with its fur standing on end in the cage, his brows furrowing slightly.

"Your Highness, what should we do with this bird?" the steward carrying the birdcage asked respectfully.

Your Highness?

Could this man be Gan Wang?

After calming down on New Year's Day, she carefully examined the man in front of her, who possessed a noble and aloof demeanor.

The man was dressed in a magnificent black and red robe. His face was handsome and aloof, with perfectly sculpted features. He had a high nose bridge and deep, dark phoenix eyes beneath his sword-like eyebrows. His brows exuded maturity, but he did not appear weathered. His thin lips were tightly pursed, which added to his aloofness.

This person doesn't seem like someone easy to get along with.

I started worrying about my bird life on New Year's Day.

Xiao Changqi glanced casually at the pink ball huddled in the corner of the cage and said indifferently, "It's just a little beast. If it's obedient, I'll keep it. If it's disobedient, I'll have the chef add roasted bird meat to the meal tonight."

Upon hearing this, New Year's Day erupted again: "Chirp chirp chirp!!"

You old rascal, you're wicked!

Listening to the birds' chatter, Xiao Changqi lowered his eyes and said coldly, "They don't seem very obedient."

New Year:"?!"

Fearing the man's next words would be "send it to the kitchen to bake," the extremely survival-conscious Yuandan immediately scurried over from the edge of the cage and sat obediently.

If we were to choose a picture to accompany New Year's Day, it would definitely be: a dignified JPG.

Its clever appearance doesn't resemble a bird, but rather a person.

Xiao Changqi's expression was indifferent: "Do you understand what I'm saying?"

Yuan Dan didn't know whether to nod or shake his head, so he could only pretend not to understand and look at Xiao Changqi with his beady eyes in confusion.

What are you saying?

I don't understand.

"Oh."

Xiao Changqi suddenly chuckled softly, his expression ambiguous, and gestured to the head steward: "Open the cage."
