As the first rays of sunlight shone through the gray sky in the early morning, the carriage of the Fu family stopped in front of a small house.
The small house was made of dead branches, and villagers from nearby should live inside.
Chu Chenyin pushed open the door of the carriage and looked outside. A warm breeze blew towards her. She got off the carriage with Fu Yanting, came to a small house and knocked on the door.
"Is anyone there?"
The lights in the house were on, but they went out immediately when they knocked on the door.
Chu Chenyin looked toward the window curiously, "The lights are off inside."
Lord Fu came over and said, "There have been bandits in this mountain for a long time. I guess they turned off the lights because they were afraid."
After he finished speaking, he walked to the door and knocked again, "We are just merchants passing by and would like to ask you for directions."
The room became unusually quiet and no one answered.
Chu Chenyin thought for a moment, looked at a little lamb at the door, and deliberately said loudly: "Since it won't come out, let's take the lamb away."
As soon as she finished speaking, there was a sudden movement inside.
At this moment the lamb bleated.
Not long after, the door suddenly opened and a little boy popped out.
The little boy was thin and small, with wheat-colored skin. He was wearing dark blue clothes and had two buns on his head. He looked to be about seven or eight years old.
"Don't take my lamb!" He strode out and grabbed the lamb at the door in his arms.
Chu Chenyin squatted down and asked him, "Little guy, do you know how to get to Youzhou City?"
The little boy held the lamb and looked at them carefully. Seeing that they were not horse thieves, he relaxed a little. "Go west from here, cross a large grassland and go around two mountains to Youzhou City."
Lord Fu looked up at the grassland not far away, then took out the map in his hand and flipped through it. "It will probably take two days to cross the grassland. Why don't we take a rest here and change two horses?"
Mrs. Fu got off the carriage and said, "The children have been traveling for a long time. They really need to rest."
Qing Er came over and said, "Madam, let's light a fire here and cook some hot food for the young ladies and masters."
Mrs. Fu nodded and said, "I'll ask Lai Fu to move the things out."
Chu Chenyin looked to the side and was delighted, as he finally had a hot meal to eat.
We hurried along the way, eating either steamed buns or dumplings, and then some meat cakes and tea cakes that had been prepared in advance.
