Age of Empires From Scratch - Chapter 1

[Chapter 1: The New Village Chief]

David lowered his left hand holding the hunting bow with a happy face, and then used his agile body to quickly move through the forest. In the blink of an eye, he arrived next to his prey: a deer that had been hit by several arrows and fell to the ground. He

squatted down and put the hunting bow aside, drew out the dagger and completed a fatal blow to the prey that had not yet died, and then moved the still steaming venison to the very roughly made backpack. The whole process was done in one go and was very skillful.

“Hey!”

After taking a breath and standing up, David, who had put the backpack on his back, had a lot of effort to stand up straight. The weight on the backpack behind him was much heavier than he expected.

“My strength has weakened a lot. I hope I can recover quickly.”

Not long after entering the forest, he got dozens of kilograms of venison. David was very satisfied with today’s harvest. If his luck continues to be so good, he should be able to return to normal soon.

Carrying the hunting bow and the quiver full of arrows, David walked towards the direction of “home” outside the forest…

David was originally a very ordinary office worker on Earth. After dying young, I don’t know how he came to this world.

According to his observation, this is a fantasy world similar to the European Middle Ages.

The strictly divided class system also made him very uncomfortable, because he was just a civilian in this life!

After being raised by an old hunter Adis until he was sixteen years old, David, who was unwilling to give up, became a pioneer. In order to increase the territory, the Kingdom of Tiran encouraged civilians to become pioneers to develop lands where there were no human lives and residences.

Pioneers who successfully developed and occupied new lands could leave their civilian status and become knights or even noble lords.

However, it is not easy to open up territory. After months of trekking to choose a place to live and more than a year and a half of reclamation work, David’s pioneering team failed to reclaim qualified farmland.

Coupled with the harsh climate, attacks by wild beasts, lack of food and medicine, and hard work without rewards, some people died or gave up one after another. When the winter of the second year passed, only David was left.

He naturally took over the pioneering certificate and became the village chief of this newly built village.

However, after struggling through the second winter, David also began to consider leaving here.

“This deer should help me recover, and I can also make some dried meat… It would be even better if I can find some wild vegetables.”

Carrying the main food for the next few days, David slowly walked back to the temporary village with only four large wooden houses.

One of the four wooden houses was a warehouse, a blacksmith’s workshop, and the kitchen of the entire team. David carried the venison into the wooden house and put it on a seemingly simple table. He began to do various things: skinning, taking out the internal organs, cutting and cleaning the meat of various parts. After he was done with all this, he stewed some broth for himself – he had no shortage of seasonings. The pioneering team would bring enough salt, sugar and spices when they set out, and there were still a lot of these things left.

Sitting on a simple wooden bench outside the wooden house, holding a wooden bowl and drinking broth, David looked at the vast river in the west and thought about his future: should he go to another pioneering village? Or should he simply return to Tieshubao? Should he

return to Tieshubao and be an ordinary hunter? He was always a little unwilling. Just as he was thinking about these things, a figure vaguely appeared not far ahead.

The figure was blurry and vague. Even in broad daylight, David couldn’t see the other person’s appearance clearly.

“What’s going on? Is it a ghost?”

The translucent figure reminded David of ghosts, undead, Nie Xiaoqian and the like. Just as he put down the wooden bowl and took the bow and arrow beside him to give himself courage, the figure gradually became clear and revealed its “true appearance”.

“This look…”

The dirty tank top, overalls and leather boots, ponytail, and dirty mud and water could not cover up the high looks, plus the staggering look of holding the waist…

Just this look, if it is accompanied by wind and rain, cold wind and rain on the mountain wall, David should suspect that he has traveled through time again – he obviously saw the famous beautiful archaeologist!

She became an archaeologist after graduating from college, but none of the ruins she had excavated could be preserved intact, so she was also called the destroyer of ancient tombs, the collapse of everything she walked on, the god of demolition, etc.

Now, she is just a rookie who has just graduated from college and is participating in archaeological activities for the first time.

In this seemingly ordinary archaeological activity, she was shipwrecked and stranded on an island, encountering a series of strange things. After experiencing various hardships, she helped her partners escape successfully and gradually grew up.

The one in front of David should be the period not long after the story began.

Standing up, David looked at the man who slowly walked into the village, looking at the man who also showed a puzzled look, ready to try to have a conversation – after so many years, he didn’t know how many English sentences he could still remember.

While he was struggling with how many English sentences he could still remember, Crawford on the opposite side had noticed him and stopped a few meters away from David.

Now the two people are not far away, plus there is plenty of light in the daytime, and David in this life does not have myopia, astigmatism or other problems. He can clearly see the surprise, confusion and vigilance on Crawford’s face.

“Hello.” David habitually used the universal language of humans in this world: “Do you need help?”

“Hello!” Crawford didn’t understand what the young man opposite was saying at all? However, after a careful look, he felt that this young man who looked very righteous should have no ill will towards him, so he waved his hand and greeted David: “I need some help.”

This listening question was not difficult, and he could understand it, but he was a little scratching his head about how to answer it.

Putting the bow and arrow aside, David walked in front of Crawford.

After seeing David put down his weapon, he was sure that this person had no ill will towards him, and Crawford immediately said a lot of words. This gave David a headache. He could only vaguely understand a few words, and finally had to point his finger at the wound that Crawford was covering and interrupted the other person’s words.

In the story, Crawford fell into the sea during a shipwreck. Although he tried his best to swim to the shore, he was knocked unconscious by someone. After waking up, he was hung upside down in a cave.

Although Crawford escaped with his wisdom and courage, he was also injured, among which the penetrating wound on the side of his waist was the most serious.

It was hard to imagine that Crawford, a young girl who didn’t look very strong, could climb the snowy mountains and the grass with such injuries, and by the way, she could destroy the entire Brotherhood of the Sun, the big boss Queen Himiko who possessed mysterious power, and her numerous Storm Guards.

Considering that the metal that was pierced into the waist was full of rust, and Crawford’s subsequent performance… even if she was unarmed, Crawford’s combat power was definitely more than 5.

At this time, Crawford, who was amazingly powerful, was in a very weak state. Following the direction pointed by David, she looked down at her waist. Blood kept oozing out between her fingers. She knew that this was not the time to say those nonsense, and she also understood that the other party did not understand English.

However, simple words should be understandable, right? She tried to say: “I need help! Medicine!”

Crawford watched the young man in front of her take out something from the bag on his waist: a small bag, and a cloth roll that looked like a bandage.

After the other party opened the small bag, Crawford saw the powdery substance inside, which seemed to be some kind of medicine powder – it seemed that her attempt was successful.

Taking out the medicine powder and homemade bandages that he always carried with him, David made a few more gestures to Crawford: first he pointed at his own eyes, then pointed at the location of Crawford’s wound, and finally raised the medicine powder and bandage in his hand.

Crawford understood what he meant, hesitated for a few seconds and nodded, then lifted his vest a little to reveal the location of the injury.

Her action pulled the wound, and the sudden pain made Crawford groan.

David looked at Crawford’s waist, which was covered with blood stains, and the original skin color could not be seen. In this state, it was impossible to apply medicine directly.

Handing the medicine powder and bandage in his hand to Crawford, David pointed to the wooden chair next to the wooden house and made a “wait a moment” gesture. It

was a very simple gesture, and Crawford had no difficulty understanding it. He took the medicine powder and bandage and sat on the wooden chair. Crawford watched David turn around and enter the wooden house, and soon came out with a basin of clean water, and understood what he meant.

Sitting obediently on the wooden chair, Crawford watched the enthusiastic young man in front of her wipe her waist and abdomen with a wet cloth. Suddenly, she felt strange… She should clean it herself. It seemed a bit inappropriate to speak now, and she thought that the other party could not understand what she said.

David carefully helped Crawford wipe the wound. With his movements, the mud and blood were wiped away, revealing Crawford’s snow-white waist and abdomen with muscular lines.

Feeling the wet and delicate feeling on his fingers, David, who had not tasted meat for more than ten years, felt a heat rising in his body.

“Ahem!”

He gathered his mind, threw the cloth stained with blood and mud aside, and then took the powder and bandage from Crawford’s hand, and bandaged Crawford’s wound neatly – his bandaging skills have improved a lot in the past two years.

After he finished doing all this, he stood up and nodded to Crawford.

At this time, Crawford also stood up, checked the bandage on his waist and abdomen, raised his head, and thanked David very sincerely: “Thank you very much for your help.”

“You’re welcome.”

As soon as the words came out, the two were stunned.

Because David was no longer speaking a language that Crawford had never heard before, but English that she was very familiar with, the British English that she was most familiar with.
