[Chapter 17: Beside the Couch]
Waving his arms, the golden sacred fire gushed out, and a huge bonfire appeared again in front of the mine, illuminating the already dark forest.
The power of the sacred fire did not disappoint David, and it was worthy of this gorgeous and dazzling sound and light effect. With
just one move, the huge monster fell to the ground, and the previous strange scarlet light also dissipated under the scorching of the sacred fire.
After waiting for a while cautiously and making sure that the monster was completely dead, David dispersed the sacred fire wrapped around his hand, turned around and looked at Laura who was speechless: “Isn’t it amazing?”
“Awesome.” Although Laura was a little speechless about David’s second-year behavior, she still nodded. After all, David’s move instantly killed the giant monster that could withstand several shotgun rounds. The power of David’s move was really strong: “But…isn’t this spell called sacred fire? Why is it called Rihachi-style: Orochi Nagi?”
“Orochi Nagi is a very powerful move that can better release the sacred fire. There is no conflict between the two.”
David made a few random remarks and didn’t want to say too much about this.
For him, there is no essential difference between directly releasing the sacred fire and using ‘Orochi Nagi’. Both release a large amount of sacred fire to attack the target. After all, he doesn’t understand Orochi Nagi at all, and he doesn’t know the details of the authentic Orochi Nagi when it is used, unless one day Kusanagi Kyo or Kusanagi Shibafu comes to Winter Village.
“Let’s leave before we attract more trolls!” He looked at the extinguished flames and saw two burnt trolls lying on the ground. He wondered if this mine was a troll spawning point. Why did he encounter this kind of monster every time he came here?
“You’re right. It’s too unsafe here.” Laura had similar thoughts and quickly moved forward with David to the south of the forest.
Even if there were any questions, they could ask them after returning to Winter Village.
There were no accidents on the road this time. The two of them walked out of the forest smoothly and returned to Winter Village.
Looking at Mark and Fording who were chatting at the long table, David and Laura breathed a sigh of relief. Noticing
the situation of the two, the experienced Fording immediately guessed that the two people’s trip was not smooth and they must have encountered some enemies.
After a few more careful observations, Fording determined that the two were not injured through their complexion and posture. He knew that this trip was at most safe and sound, so he was relieved.
“Sit down and take a rest. I’ll heat up your dinner and we can talk while you eat.”
“Thank you, Tirion.” David and Laura took off their belongings and put them aside, then sat at the wooden table and waited for dinner.
Mark poured two large glasses of water for the two of them and asked curiously, “Is it good news or bad news?”
“Both.” After drinking the water in the glass in one gulp, David felt that this exploration of the deep forest had yielded a lot: “The good news is that we don’t have to worry about the revenge of the wolves anymore.”
“Oh?” Although Mark didn’t need to go far away from the village to hunt, even if he stayed in the village, there was still the risk of being attacked by wild beasts. It was certainly a good thing not to worry about the threat of wolves.
But David had just said that there was good news and bad news. Judging from the expressions of the two people just now, it was estimated that things were not that simple.
“We’ll tell you the bad news when Fording comes back.”
“Then you two take a rest first, I’ll go help Tirion.” Mark didn’t rush for a while, and got up to help Fording.
Although the various materials in Winter Village have become much richer with the arrival of Mark and Laura’s return to her hometown in England, they did not make the dinner too complicated or extravagant, and still mainly stewed and grilled.
Soon, the hot potato stew was served, and with the French arms provided by Laura and some bagged food provided by Mark, a simple dinner was placed on the table.
While eating the stew, David told Laura and himself about what happened today in detail, and Fording and Mark, who were sitting across the table, learned the whole situation.
“Troll?” Fording listened to David and Laura’s description and thought of a creature in the world of Azeroth: “It sounds like a snow monster.”
Hearing that David could kill this creature with the sacred fire, he felt that the threat of this creature should not be too great, at least not to himself.
“Can’t communicate?” Mark Watney’s focus was different from Fording’s. He thought that since the other party was an intelligent life, maybe he could try to communicate? However, from the descriptions of Laura and David, this troll seemed to attack them directly as soon as they saw them, and did not seem to want to communicate with them.
“Maybe…” David dipped the bread in the broth a few times: “But it seems that the other party has no intention of communicating with us.”
He was more inclined to destroy these giants in his heart. After all, the other party’s village was too close to Winter Village. If those giants suddenly wanted to attack Winter Village, he would not even have a way to warn them in advance. He could only passively fight them when they came to him.
After chewing the gravy-filled bread and thinking for a few seconds, David gave up the slight entanglement that had just arisen. He was not worried about being questioned whether he was too cruel. The giants attacked him and Laura when they saw them. From that moment on, this creature was classified as a hostile creature by David.
“In short, we now have a group of vicious neighbors, which are much more dangerous than wolves.” David made a simple summary: “It seems that if we want to develop and live in this place, the trouble will be more than previously expected.”
“If you really want to develop and expand Winter Village, these are things you must go through.” Fording looked at David and suddenly became a little curious about what this young man could achieve in the end.
At first, Fording just wanted to find a place where no one knew him to live in seclusion. Although he came to another world inexplicably, the situation here just met his needs, so he chose to live here.
In addition, David showed an amazing talent for holy light. He thought it would be a good thing to be able to spread the way of holy light in another world, and taught David about the knowledge of holy light.
Even though David had expressed his desire to develop Winter Village at that time, he did not take it too seriously.
He simply listened to some of David’s descriptions and knew that it was not so easy to develop this village.
In Fording’s view, perhaps David could rely on the help of people from various worlds to establish Winter Village and make it a village officially recognized by the Kingdom of Tiran, and David could also become the official village chief.
But it is very difficult, or even impossible, to go further. It is
not only the various troubles in the objective environment, but also David’s own factors. At present, David is just a young hunter of ordinary origin. Fording does not think he has the ability to develop a village into a larger town.
In Fording’s original idea, David’s ability to run a small village well is already a manifestation of outstanding talent.
But David’s “decisiveness” after discovering the troll village today made Fording change his mind slightly: not everyone can make a straightforward decision to completely eliminate the “hostile forces” in such a situation.
Not to mention a young man of ordinary origin who has never served as a manager, many lords who have ruled a place for many years will hesitate and do not know how to make a decision when encountering similar situations.
“Maybe this young man can really develop this village?”
David did not know what Fording was thinking. He was organizing his words in his heart and wanted to ask Fording for help. As a result, before he opened his mouth, Fording had already taken the initiative to express his willingness to help.
“I live very comfortably in Winter Village, but I don’t want to be disturbed by a group of trolls. I will go to the forest to get rid of these trolls tomorrow.”
According to Fording, he was responsible for solving the troll issue alone.
David did not really let Fording go alone. He was the village chief of Winter Village after all. How could he stay out of such a big matter as eliminating the threat near the village?
As for Laura and Mark Watney, one came to travel and adventure, and the other was just a botanist. This bloody job was not suitable for them.
Both of them were smart people. They understood that Fording and David did not ask them to take care of them. In addition, they did not say anything because of their own situation.
“Have a good rest tonight, and we will go to the forest together tomorrow.”
With Fording’s words, there was no need to discuss the trolls anymore. There was only one ending for them, to be eliminated by Tirion Fording.
This was indeed the case. The next day, when David and Fording came to the simple village where the trolls lived, they found that these trolls really had no intention of communicating. After rushing up and attacking directly, Tirion Fording showed his amazing fighting power.
From the beginning to the end, Fording did not use the holy light, but only used the two-handed heavy sword that Laura gave him to kill all the trolls.
In addition to appreciating the heroic figure of the old man from a close distance and improving some cold weapon combat experience through observation, David did not even have many opportunities to cast auxiliary holy light spells, and he almost shouted “six six six” beside him. Even
the last troll, which was a circle larger than the other trolls and was obviously the leader, roared and a more dazzling blood-red light appeared on his body, but he could not hold on for long in Fording’s hands and soon fell to the ground.
From the time the two came to the troll village to the end of the battle, it was not much time. If someone who did not know the truth saw this battle, he might pray in his heart: “Come on, trolls with white hair all over their bodies!” Fording, who had
completely cleared the trolls, stood in front of the stone tablet with David at this time, frowning at the faint blood-red light emanating from it.
“This altar doesn’t seem to be a good thing.”
