Age of Empires From Scratch - Chapter 33

[Chapter 33 Blue Iron Fool]

“This…”

Seeing the silly look on this thing’s face, David recognized what it was at a glance – isn’t this the famous Silly Squirtle? Then his head was filled with question marks: How could this thing appear here?

He thought of a possibility, this Squirtle, like Laura, Fording and Mark, all came to him from another world.

What’s a little special is that those people are all human and contacted David at the first time; but this thing is not a human, and ran to the river to live by himself?

So, when did this Squirtle come? David originally thought that Squirtle had just arrived not long ago, but soon thought of another possibility: Maybe this little guy has lived here for a while.

Not long after Laura appeared, Fording appeared!

After these two lived in Winter Village for a while, Mark Watney appeared, and no new people appeared after that, at least that’s what David thought at the time.

He originally thought that there was no pattern for visitors from other worlds, but now he thinks he may have made a wrong judgment. Maybe… maybe… Squirtle came to Winter Village at the same time as Mark? This happened to be a group of two (?) people, which conformed to a certain pattern.

David did not rule out other possibilities. Anyway, as long as his village continued to exist, with the increase of people coming from other worlds, he would sooner or later know what the situation was.

“This blue turtle seems to be very smart and looks very interesting.” When David was stunned, Maroney and Squirtle looked at each other for a moment, and suddenly felt that this thing was very interesting. It would be nice if they could take it back: “Village Chief David, do you mind if I catch one and take it back?”

Maroney simply thought that this was a special creature of the Winter River. Generally, if you see an animal of interest in the countryside, you just catch it and it’s over.

He was very polite to David. After all, in his “speculation”, David’s identity was very special. He would not treat David as an ordinary civilian or a village chief, but put David on an equal footing with himself.

Huey and Knight Hackett saw Maroney’s attitude in the past two days. Although they didn’t understand why, they knew that someone who even Lord Maroney-Mansfield had to treat politely was definitely not someone they could afford to offend.

Therefore, this group of “officials” who came to Winter Village from Iron Tree Castle behaved very cordially and spoke politely to anyone in Winter Village. Even though the living environment was a little worse, no one expressed dissatisfaction.

Even so, when Knight Hackett saw that Maloney had to ask David’s opinion even for catching a turtle, he was still shocked and began to think in his heart that he should not have offended the village chief during this period of time?

David looked at Maloney and then at Squirtle. He didn’t know how to answer Maloney’s question. In the end, he could only say: “This kind of blue turtle is the first time I have seen it… If Lord Mansfield is interested, you can do it at will.”

He didn’t think Maloney could catch Squirtle. This thing only looks stupid, but it is actually very smart and has good fighting power.

“Just call me Maloney.” Maloney smiled and nodded, still standing there without moving.

How could Maloney-Mansfield do something like catching a pet personally? When David expressed his attitude and Maroney nodded in thanks, Huey, as a servant, walked towards Squirtle.

Although he looked silly, Squirtle was not as innocent as he looked. After realizing that danger was approaching him, he turned around and jumped into the Winter River. In a blink of an eye, he swam to a safe distance. Then he showed his round blue head, made faces at the people on the shore, and finally opened his mouth to spray a lot of water, which made Huey feel cold.

“…” Huey looked at the blue turtle that swam far away, and then looked at himself who was a little embarrassed, wondering if he could catch this blue turtle that could spray water on people if he jumped into the river?

“Hahaha!” Looking at his servant’s slightly embarrassed appearance, Maloney was not angry because of his subordinates’ incompetence. After all, this blue turtle showed extraordinaryness. It seemed that it should be a magical beast: “Okay, Huey, it seems that you can’t catch that little guy. Hurry up and change into clean clothes!” “I’m

sorry to disappoint you, sir.”

Maloney waved his hand, indicating that he didn’t care about this little thing: “Go change your clothes quickly. I don’t want the only servant around me to get sick.”

Huey said goodbye and went back to the village to change clothes. He might have to wash up by the way.

Maloney stood on the shore and looked into the river. He couldn’t find the turtle. He didn’t care that an interesting creature slipped away from his eyes, although this turtle was indeed very interesting.

“David, you chose a good location for this Winter Village.” Maloney was not a noble who only studied fun. No matter how interesting the turtle was, it only made him pay attention for a short while, and soon his attention turned to other things.

Looking at the vast river in front of him, where he could hardly see the other side, he felt that Winter Village had great potential for development. In addition to the vast northern plains, there were more places to explore. With the convenience of water transportation, it was even easier and faster to find out the situation in the lower reaches of the Winter River.

“It’s a pity that this aspect was not taken into consideration this time.” The few people brought by Maloney would record the Winter River, but at most they could collect information about the east bank, where Winter Village was located, and could not cross the Winter River to explore the geographical conditions of the west bank. “Besides, Iron Tree Castle probably won’t send anyone to investigate the situation there in the short term.”

If you want to check the situation on the west bank, you have to cross the river. Considering various manpower, materials, possible risks, speed of evacuation, etc., there are certain requirements for the transportation capacity of ships.

In addition, there is no tributary of the Winter River that directly connects to the Iron Tree Fort, so the ships must be built on the Winter Village side, which means that manpower must be dispatched and a shipyard must be built in the Winter Village; plus such a vast area of the Northern Plains will take a long time to digest, no matter from which perspective, there is no need to spend effort to cross the river.

David did not respond. He has not considered the situation on the other side of the river for the time being. In the future, if there are conditions and capabilities, he can consider building a Golden Gate Bridge or something like that, which can also be used as one of the landmark buildings of Winter City.

After chatting about the Winter River for a while, Maloney returned to the village. He came here to work, and it is impossible for him to always maintain an idle state. The two men will take the soldiers to explore the geographical conditions around Winter Village, but they need to report to Maloney after recording and summarizing.

When Maloney feels that the information has been collected, he will issue an order to return.

As for whether Winter Village is a qualified village? This is no longer a problem!

Watching Maroney walk towards the village, David did not rush back with him, but found a place that looked okay by the river and sat down, looking at the river and thinking about it.

I don’t know how long it took, anyway, the sun was still emitting heat above his head, and David’s thoughts were broken by a splash of water.

Looking at the blue round head sticking out of the water, David waved his hand and said hello: “Hi~”

The Squirtle looked at David for a while, and finally stretched out its short “front paws”, waved in the water, and finally showed a very silly smile.

“Haha!”

I have to admit that Squirtle is really interesting. Even just looking at this little thing makes people feel happy. David thought that this little thing might not know how he came to him, so he simply sat by the Winter River and said a lot of words as if talking to himself, and told him in detail how to leave this world freely and how to return to Winter Village.

He knew that Squirtle could understand, so he waved at Squirtle again after he finished speaking: “If you can’t find food, you can go to the village… It’s best to wait until those people leave before coming back.”

Squirtle was still soaking in the water, and did not react to David’s previous words, as if he didn’t understand. It was not until after this sentence that he nodded and said: “Jenny Jenny!”

Standing up and patting the dirt off his butt, David turned and walked towards the village, but he did not enter the village. Instead, he stayed on the side of the wooden house at the outermost edge of the village, which was the large wooden house that was originally used as a kitchen and warehouse, and waited for something against the wooden house.

David did not wait too long. Not long after, a shadow appeared not far in front of him, and then gradually became solid. Laura, carrying a bag of potatoes, appeared in front of David.

Laura, who was carrying a large bag of potatoes, did not greet David, but looked down at her empty left hand, and then shook her head helplessly at David: “I didn’t bring the chicken.”

“I can see that.”

Laura went home today while Maloney’s men were exploring the surrounding areas with soldiers and were not in the village, and agreed in advance on the approximate time they would be needed. David came here to guard when the time was about right to avoid any accidents.

“In this case, we need to include chickens, ducks and other poultry in the transaction with Gregory.”

“I think we can just exchange more chickens.” Laura felt that it might be easier to raise only chickens, and pigs, sheep, and milk could be purchased directly as finished products: “Besides, livestock such as pigs and sheep are not easy to transport.”

Although two horses were taken as a deposit in advance, it would be better to have a car if you want to transport livestock such as pigs and sheep, but Winter Village does not have either horse-drawn carriages or ox-drawn carriages now.

“Next, we have to wait for Lord Maloney to finish his inspection of the village and for Fording to come back.” When Fording comes back, the inspection of Winter Village and its surroundings should be completed: “Then I will go to Irontree Castle again… Will you go with me this time?”

“No, I won’t go to Irontree Castle with you this time. I have something to do.”
