Age of Empires From Scratch - Chapter 80

[Chapter 80 Winter Fortress Version 1.0]

Leonard, Sheldon, Howard and Raj, four good friends came to David holding a box, each with a happy face.

“We succeeded, look!”

David looked at the few people wearing thin coats, and did not rush to see what Leonard was holding. He called a few people to go to the cafeteria: “Let’s go to the cafeteria first. If you say anything here, you will catch a cold.”

“I think David is right.” Without women around, Raj could speak normally. He was also the first person to realize that the temperature was too low. After all, he came from a very hot country and now lives in an area where it is spring all year round: “If I stay for another minute, I will become an ice sculpture and stay on this land forever.”

“In that case, you may become a landmark attraction of Winter Village.” Howard posed as if he was frozen to death, and then rushed into the cafeteria trembling with his shoulders hugged.

David and Mark finally followed the few people into the cafeteria. The four people had already sat at the bar and asked Jonah for hot soup or hot drinks.

David didn’t rush them. He waited until they drank the hot drinks and warmed up before asking, “Have you figured out how to use the energy in the crystal ore?”

“Yes.” Howard brought the box that Leonard had been holding to David and opened the lid so that David could see what was inside. “It’s actually very simple, not as complicated as we thought.”

David looked down and saw some very simple circuits in the box, with a light bulb at the end – anyone who has been to elementary school has seen this thing, or even made it themselves.

As soon as this thing was revealed, David understood what Howard wanted to express: “You mean, the crystal ore can be used as a battery?”

“Uh-huh~” Howard took out a very small piece of crystal ore and put it into the special card slot. He connected the switch that was originally disconnected, and the light bulb really lit up: “Durable and stable.”

“It’s so simple…how did you find this out?”

David just asked casually, but he didn’t expect this question to make the pride on Howard’s face disappear quickly. He replaced it with an embarrassed expression, and muttered in a very unnatural tone: “Put the crystal ore in my lightsaber as a battery…”

“…”

It sounded like something Howard would do. David was very glad that Howard just wanted to use the crystal ore as a battery for the lightsaber, not some other strange thing, otherwise he would never be able to look directly at this kind of good thing that can be used as an energy source, as a weapon reinforcement material, and even as the main raw material for making weapons.

“Anyway, we finally know how to use the energy here.” Howard felt that he could show his talents. He could design a series of equipment that uses crystal ore as energy, bringing Winter Village into a new era: “Winter Village Chief Engineer, Howard Wolowitz, sounds good!”

“It’s Winter Town… If David is willing, it can be renamed Winter City.”

Everyone turned their heads to look at the voice, and only then noticed Edwin Van Cleef, who was eating with his child. Judging from the food in front of him, Van Cleef should have been sitting here for a while.

“Edwin.”

“David.”

The two nodded and greeted each other. David also greeted Edwin’s daughter Vanessa Van Cleef. The little girl waved to David happily.

For Vanessa, she didn’t know why her father kept moving with her, but after arriving at Winter Village, her father told her that he would not move again. The girl was very happy to hear the news, so she had a good impression of David, who saved her family from running around, and waved enthusiastically every time she saw him.

“Hello, David!”

“Hello, Vanessa.”

After saying hello, David did not ignore Edwin Van Cleef’s previous words. Although he did not want to disturb the family time of the father and daughter, Edwin Van Cleef had already put on a “come and ask” posture, so he could not pretend not to see it.

“Has the design plan for Winter Town come out?”

“It’s just a sketch.” Van Cleef took out a notebook from his arms: “I originally wanted to discuss it with you later, but since we met… you don’t have anything to do now, right?”

David glanced at Howard and others next to him. They were staring at the notebook in Van Cleef’s hand with curiosity. It was obvious that they also wanted to see the construction plan of Winter Town.

“No, let’s take a look together!”

Moving from the bar to the empty long table next to him, Van Cleef opened the notebook in his hand and placed it on the table, introducing his design to David who was standing next to him. As for the sketch drawn on the notebook… it was just a sketch, and only the general outline could be roughly seen.

“I plan to build the Winter Fortress here, which is to the north of the current Winter Village, right next to the current village.” Fortunately, everyone present had enough intelligence. With Edwin Van Cleef’s explanation, they could already understand the various plans on the sketch: “Build the entire Winter City with the Winter Fortress as the core.”

According to Van Cleef’s plan, the Winter Fortress is the core area of Winter City and is a multifunctional fortress including the castle. In addition to being the lord’s residence, garden, and library, it also gathers the functions of the Winter City Town Hall, various office agencies, summoning foreign guests, and holding meetings.

As a fortress, there is also a separate military camp inside the Winter Fortress for the convenience of soldiers to station, and the facilities such as stables, blacksmith shops, and warehouses are all available.

“…”

Listening to Edwin Van Cleef’s explanation, David felt that this so-called Winter Fortress alone was more perfect than the Winter Town he wanted.

“Winter Fortress has complete drainage and sewage facilities to ensure that there will be no water accumulation on rainy days.”

After giving a brief introduction, Edwin Van Cleef looked at David and wanted to ask for his opinion. However, he felt that his design was already perfect. Once Winter Fortress was built, it would definitely be a more perfect castle than Stormwind Fortress.

And because of his experience in building Stormwind City, if David could get the right materials, he could also ensure that Winter Fortress would have good defense when facing the invasion of mysterious forces.

As a result, before Edwin Van Cleef could receive David’s praise, his good mood was ruined by the people next to him.

“Have you considered water supply, heating and electricity?” Howard looked at the scribbled drawings in Van Cleef’s notebook, trying to find the plan for laying these lines: “And how are the sewage pipes in the bathroom planned?”

“Have you considered the network lines?” Sheldon also interjected: “Even if there is no global network, there should be no problem with the local area network? I plan to set up a few servers.”

“…” Edwin Van Cleef, who was a little dizzy from being bombarded by several people around him, found that the situation seemed to be completely different from what he thought. He found that he had overlooked many problems.

He had actually seen tap water, heating and so on, but he didn’t think these things conflicted with his design.

But when Howard, Leonard and Sheldon, who gave him a headache, kept pointing out various problems, he realized that his design concept seemed to be seriously backward and could not adapt to the situation in Winter Village at all. He

carefully asked what was going on with the tap water system? What about the power supply system? With Howard’s ‘sample’ nearby, Van Cleef finally realized that he needed to learn a lot of new knowledge when he realized that the power supply system was to expand that little thing countless times, and even cover the entire city.

“It doesn’t matter. Winter Village has a long winter anyway, and there is enough time for you to make various preparations.” David was not dissatisfied with Van Cleef’s design. The only flaws were those mentioned by Leonard and the others.

These problems were not because Van Cleef was incompetent, but because he lacked understanding of new things, and was eager to prove his ability in front of David, which led to the current situation.

This was nothing. With Van Cleef’s ability, he could go back to learn some knowledge and learn new concepts, and soon he would be able to integrate those things and make a more perfect design.

“Sheldon, I’m afraid I’ll have to bother you to teach me some new knowledge in the next period of time.” Van Cleef looked at Sheldon who always pestered him and asked him all kinds of headache questions: “In return, I will teach you how to become a real assassin.”

“Really? Great!”

“Oh~ Bad choice!” “This is really unwise.” “I have a premonition of what will happen next.” Leonard, Howard, and Raj looked at Edwin Van Cleef, all with an expression of “You are in big trouble!”

Edwin Van Cleef knew that Sheldon was more “annoying”, but he didn’t care too much. After deciding to teach Sheldon how to become a real assassin and learn some “modern knowledge” from him tomorrow, Edwin took his daughter away.

“How many days do you think Sheldon can survive in front of Edwin Van Cleef?” Howard waited until the father and daughter walked out of the cafeteria and immediately started the bet: “I think it’s at most one day.”

“Three hours.” Raj gave a new unit, and finally the two looked at Leonard together.

“That’s the leader of the Defias Brotherhood, the final boss of the Deadmines, and Sheldon Cooper… Sheldon will definitely not survive for half an hour.”

Sheldon looked at them unhappily. Just when he was about to say something, he heard David reminding them: “No matter what, Edwin will not kill Sheldon. But as an excellent assassin, Edwin should know how to use poison to teach Sheldon a lesson without actually hurting him.”

After hearing David’s words, the other three thought for a few seconds and nodded in agreement.
