Age of Empires From Scratch - Chapter 83

[Chapter 83 Varian]

Three days, just three days, Van Cleef turned Winter Village into a huge construction site.

Compared with the commotion made by Van Cleef and his group of craftsmen, the previous construction work in Winter Village was just like children playing with mud.

Looking at the various signs on the land in the entire area north of Winter Village, and many people working hard to dig holes, David had a clearer understanding of the work ability of these Azerothians.

“I heard that Winter Village is about to be upgraded to Wintertown, and I think I can be qualified to be the governor of Wintertown.” Sheldon stood in front of David, staring at David with eager eyes: “I promise to manage Wintertown in an orderly manner.”

“I believe you can do it.” With Sheldon’s obsessive-compulsive disorder, if he serves as the governor of Wintertown, everything will be in order, but by then, the people in Wintertown will almost want to kill Sheldon, the governor: “If you want to be the governor of Wintertown, there is a problem that cannot be ignored.”

“What?”

“Are you going to quit your job at the university? And then move to Wintertown to settle down?”

“Uh…” Sheldon thought about it for a few seconds and felt that his abilities were enough to take care of both: “This is not a problem, I can run both ways.”

“But as a governor, you must be stationed in Wintertown for a long time to ensure that timely instructions are given in case of emergencies.” David knows Sheldon’s temper. This guy looks old, but most of the time he has a child’s temper. It’s useless to reject him directly. He will keep pestering you with all kinds of reasons that will leave you speechless.

At such times, you have to talk to him in a way that goes along with his temper. For example, you could first acknowledge his ability, then raise some irrefutable objective questions, and let him personally state the reasons why he cannot serve as consul. Then the matter would be over.

After a few words made Sheldon realize that it was unrealistic for him to serve as the governor, David gave him a piece of candy at the right time: “However, I really hope that Dr. Cooper can serve as the chief scientific adviser of Wintertown and provide all kinds of valuable scientific suggestions for the development of Wintertown.”

“I am honored to accept this invitation.”

After comforting Sheldon, David glanced at Van Cleef who was directing the craftsmen not far away, and suddenly remembered that Sheldon had been pestering Van Cleef before, so why didn’t he go to find the former leader of the Defias Brotherhood today: “Why don’t you go to find Edwin today? Have you mastered all the assassin techniques?”

When this was mentioned, Sheldon, who was originally in high spirits, instantly wilted: “No… I don’t think the way of the assassin is suitable for me.”

Although he was very reluctant, Sheldon could only admit in the face of iron facts that he could not learn what Van Cleef taught him at all – let alone the skills of perceiving the shadow and integrating himself into the gap between the shadow and the real world. He couldn’t even get started with the most basic skills.

“Don’t be discouraged. If you can’t be an assassin, you can consider learning something else.”

Just a word of comfort, but Sheldon was fully revived: “Do you think I can become a good hunter? I am still very talented in bows and arrows.”

“Oh? You know archery?”

“Yeah, on Wii.”

“…”

David had a speechless expression of “What am I expecting?” He turned his head and looked at Fording who was waving at him in the distance: “I have some things to deal with, Sheldon, do you have anything else to do?” “

No, I don’t have anything to do. I can go with you.”

“…” David was stunned and shook his head helplessly. This was indeed Sheldon’s brain circuit. He could only remind him: “You can go together, but don’t be too excited next.”

“Why would I be so excited?” Sheldon, who was moving southeast with David, immediately guessed something: “Who are you going to see? Is it someone I know?”

“It’s someone you know. This matter cannot be told to other villagers in the village, especially the craftsmen from the Brotherhood.” David believed in Sheldon’s ability to keep secrets, and he usually would not take the initiative to communicate with “strangers”. It doesn’t matter if he shows off to his friends: “Leonard and the others can tell… maybe you can get back at Leonard.”

“Oh, David~ I suddenly feel that accepting your invitation is the right thing to do.” Sheldon smiled very happily. When he saw Fording, he had guessed a few candidates. In addition to happiness, his face was also filled with excitement and anticipation.

After following David and Fording around the south of the village and coming to the bank of the Winter River, he saw two people wearing cloaks and hoods to cover their faces. He could no longer control his curiosity. The itching feeling was like waiting in line to watch the sequel of his favorite movie.

“Varian Wrynn, King of Stormwind.”

One of them lifted his hood to reveal his true face. Although there were some differences, with Fording leading the way and knowing that Fording was in Stormwind Kingdom, Sheldon had already identified several possible names, so he recognized him immediately after seeing him. Moreover, Varian’s appearance was very recognizable.

“Is this the prophet you mentioned?” Varian looked at Sheldon, who was tall and thin and wearing strange and heavy clothes. He felt that this young man was weird and was completely different from the prophet he had expected.

“No, this is David, the prophet that Your Majesty and I mentioned.” Fording had already known Sheldon’s character after a period of contact. Although this person was a little strange, he was actually a very good person: “This is Sheldon Cooper.”

“Hello, respected prophet.” Varian maintained enough respect for David, although when he got Fording’s reply that David was willing to see him, his men expressed their opposition.

Having just experienced the conspiracy of the black dragon, the high-ranking officials of Stormwind Kingdom were worried that this was another conspiracy against Stormwind City. Even if the famous Paladin Fording was present, they were unwilling to let their king go to an unknown place alone to meet a prophet they had never heard of.

But Varian insisted on coming, so everyone had to decide to send someone to escort him. This arduous task fell on Bolvar, the Duke of Stormwind City, who had made many mistakes on the issue of the black dragon princess and was in urgent need of making some contributions to eliminate the king’s bad impression of his family and was also strong enough.

This kind of trip to an unknown area to meet a prophet with unknown details was based on the Paladin’s powerful “protection and medical ability”, so Bolvar Fordragon, the strongest Paladin in Stormwind City, was chosen.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, the respected King of Stormwind Kingdom.” David just nodded slightly. He was not a subject of Stormwind Kingdom, not even an Azerothian. The two of them were meeting on an equal footing this time, so there was no need to specially salute Varian.

Then, Fording introduced Bolvar Fordragon, who was standing next to David.

After introducing each other, David and Varian looked at each other.

In David’s eyes, Varian was the familiar face, but the Varian in front of him was more “gentle”. Without the experience of losing his memory and becoming a gladiator, Varian’s violent side did not completely erupt; but considering some of Varian’s decisions, maybe he just hid it better.

In Varian’s eyes, David in front of him was just a very handsome young man. Although his figure was not thin, in the eyes of the top warriors in Azeroth, he was not strong.

Considering that Fording introduced this David as a prophet, it means that the one in front of him is a powerful spellcaster who possesses some mysterious power.

After looking at each other for a full minute, David was the first to break the silence: “Your Majesty wants to see me, what is it about?”

“Just call me Varian.” Varian put his attitude very low: “I heard from Tirion that you ‘saw’ the conspiracy of the black dragon princess, and also ‘saw’ the disaster that the Kingdom of Lordaeron is about to encounter.”

David glanced at Fording beside him. This one of the most powerful paladins in Azeroth is looking up at the sky at this moment, as if there is something new in the clear sky without even a cloud.

“I did ‘see’ something.” David did see those things, and participated in them in a special way, but there is no need to mention these details.

Varian took a deep breath, and the cool air calmed his slightly boiling blood. Varian finally asked the question he wanted to know, which was the real reason why he came to David: “Will Storm Kingdom encounter a disaster that is enough to destroy the kingdom like the Kingdom of Lordaeron?”

David looked at Varian with a serious face and gave a positive answer: “Storm Kingdom will be one of the centers of the vortex for many years to come.”

When he agreed to meet Varian, he roughly guessed what questions Varian would ask, and also thought about how to answer: just tell the truth.

If he didn’t want to reveal anything, he could just refuse to meet with Varian, because Varian couldn’t come to him on his own.

Therefore, David was determined to let the people of Azeroth feel the power of spoilers: “The Black Dragon Princess’s conspiracy is only the beginning. Don’t forget that Onyxia will stay in Stormwind Kingdom, and the mastermind behind it is Deathwing.”

Perhaps he felt that this crisis that could be thought of with a little thought was not enough to shock Varian, so David revealed some explosive information: “In addition, Archbishop Benedictus is not trustworthy.”

“…”

As David expected, Varian and everyone in Stormwind could think of Deathwing’s threat, but what about Benedictus? Isn’t this the Archbishop of Holy Light? Could it be that even the most trustworthy Holy Light has become an enemy?
