Jiang Yuping glanced at Zhu Xiaojun's injuries.
She judged in her mind that it was probably similar to her son's situation, with only a little blood coming from his nostrils, and the rest of his body should be intact.
Then, looking at Sun Juhua, he said:
“Sun Juhua, children fighting is their business. My son came here covered in blood. You should let your son check if he has any serious injuries. Now is not the time to argue with me. If you delay the examination, you will be responsible.”
Hearing this, Sun Juhua, who had initially come on strong, also felt that Jiang Yuping's words made sense, and so she pushed her son forward again.
Jiang Yuping knew what Sun Juhua meant; she wanted her to check her son's injuries. So she looked at Sun Juhua and said calmly.
"Sun Juhua, aren't you afraid I'll hurt your son?"
Sun Juhua listened with a mixture of nervousness and embarrassment.
Jiang Yuping didn't want Sun Juhua to feel pressured, so she shouted loudly outside:
"Wei Hong, Wei Hong, come to the treatment room for a moment."
Upon hearing Jiang Yuping's shout, Wei Hong immediately jogged over.
Upon seeing the congealed blood on Zhu Xiaojun's face, and then looking at her best friend cleaning the blood off Qiu Shou's face, she immediately understood that the two children must have fought, and both mothers were present.
Seeing Wei Hong's surprised expression, Jiang Yuping smiled and said:
"Wei Hong, Qiu Shou and Sun Juhua's son got into a fight and were both injured. Could you help treat Zhu Xiaojun and check if there's a broken nose or anything? Make sure he's examined carefully so he doesn't suffer any lasting damage."
As she spoke, she threw the blood-stained cotton ball into the trash can at her feet, then pulled her son Qiushou out of the treatment room.
While cleaning up the bloodstains on her son, Jiang Yuping had already found out why her son had fought with Zhu Xiaojun.
She also understood that in the children's eyes, her husband Qiu Jingwen was a sacred and inviolable figure.
Zhu Xiaojun cursed Qiu Jingwen as a big bad guy and said that he had been arrested by the police. His son was furious and fought with Zhu Xiaojun. Jiang Yuping understood this very well.
Once inside her office, Jiang Yuping turned the electric fan in a different direction, directing the air towards her sweaty son, and then took a bottle of soda from the drawer and handed it to him.
Qiushou remained silent, gulping down his soda while gazing at his mother.
Recently, or rather, ever since Liu Han was murdered in the forest of Orange Gully, Qiu Shou felt that the atmosphere at home was different from before. He also felt that his parents' expressions were different from before. In addition to Qiu Jingwen being fierce to him at the dinner table and slapping him, there was also a sense of unfamiliarity that he couldn't explain. This sense of unfamiliarity was not completely ruled out in his mind when Zhu Xiaojun cursed his father as a big bad guy and was arrested by the police.
"Mom, is Dad a bad guy?"
After gulping down half a bottle of soda, Qiushou held the bottle in his hand and looked at his mother, asking her a question.
Jiang Yuping naturally wouldn't tell her son the truth, even if it meant delaying it for a day. After all, her husband's fate was still uncertain, and she had overheard Chen Youlan's phone call with Zhou Huaihai, where they mentioned Qiu Jingwen was away on business. The perceptive Jiang Yuping felt there must be a reason behind this, though she didn't know the specifics.
“Qiushou, you’re not a child anymore. How can you believe other people’s rumors? Tell me, does your dad look like a bad guy?”
Jiang Yuping stared at her son and asked in return.
She believed in her son's heart and knew he certainly didn't believe his father was a bad guy.
"Then where did my dad go? Wasn't he arrested by the police?"
“I’ll say it again, your father is away on official business. This was said by the top leader, Zhou Huaihai, himself.”
"I know that the police officers were stationed at our factory, and Uncle Shao was in charge of the case. What if the person in charge didn't know the truth?"
"Son, what are you thinking? Do you hope your dad gets arrested by the police?"
"Mom, I'm not a child anymore, I'm twelve years old. I know my dad is a good person, not a bad guy, but there's no smoke without fire. Zhu Xiaojun definitely didn't just say it casually; the family must have heard some rumors."
As he spoke, Qiu Shou's dark eyes darted around, then he looked at his mother.
"Mom, can I borrow your bicycle?"
On his days off, Qiu Jingwen would take his son Qiu Shou to practice riding a bicycle. Sometimes when Qiu Yang returned to his home in the dormitory area, Qiu Shou would also ask his older brother to take him to practice riding a bicycle.
Qiu Shou is a precocious child, clever and quick-witted. He was able to ride a bicycle on his own after only a few tries.
Of course, to be precise, the autumn harvest doesn't involve riding a bicycle. Instead, one foot is stretched from the middle of the bicycle to the other pedal, both hands grip the handlebars, and the body is used to maintain balance while propelling the bicycle forward.
At that time, many children who were not tall enough practiced riding bicycles in this way, a method commonly known as the "crab-catching riding method" in the Duliang area.
Jiang Yuping knew her son could "ride" a bicycle, but she didn't know where he was going, so she asked:
"Autumn harvest, where are you going on my bicycle? It's almost lunchtime, have lunch with Mom."
"Mom, I just want to borrow it for a bit. I just learned to ride, and I'm addicted to it. I want to practice more."
Jiang Yuping didn't pay much attention. She thought of her daughter Qiushui going to the union library, and said to Qiushou:
"Son, go to the union library and find your sister Qiushui. We'll go to the canteen together and have lunch there."
Qiu Shui had just arrived at the infirmary with Jiang Yuping. She watched her mother treat the blood on her younger brother's face. After her mother told her that her brother was alright, she told her mother that she was going to the union library to read. She was a girl who aspired to become a writer in the future. At home, she would read books whenever she had free time. When she arrived at the factory area, the library was naturally her first choice.
