Shao Jian and another police officer entered the ward, surprising Jiang Yuping and her family of three.
Liang Damin was equally surprised. He greeted Shao Jian and stood aside without saying a word.
He didn't even understand why Shao Jian, as a leader, would come over in the middle of the night, indicating that Qiu Jingwen had been attacked and the case was relatively important.
Although Qiu Yang and Qiu Yue knew that Shao Jian was the head of the investigation team, it was the first time they had met him face to face, and they didn't know why their leader had come to the hospital in the middle of the night.
Jiang Yuping and Shao Jian were old acquaintances; she had been invited to speak with Shao Jian twice.
In the end, it was Shao Jian who looked at Jiang Yuping and spoke first.
"Dr. Jiang, my colleagues and I have come to visit your husband, Lao Qiu. You're a doctor, so his condition shouldn't be that bad, right?"
The word "visit" seems to downplay the husband's identity as a secret agent.
In Jiang Yuping's view, only comrades in the revolutionary camp could use the word "visit" when they were hospitalized.
"Thank you, boss. I just asked my husband's doctor, and he said it was a mild concussion."
As she responded, she pondered Shao Jian's intentions.
Shao Jian seemed to see through Jiang Yuping's thoughts and smiled:
"Dr. Jiang, we came so late not only to see Lao Qiu, but also to find out how he got injured."
Qiu Yue, who had remained silent, gazed at Shao Jian with teary eyes.
"Officer, who attacked my dad? Why did they attack my dad?"
Shao Jian, of course, could not provide an answer.
He looked at Qiuyue, shook his head, and smiled.
"Your name is Qiuyue, right? We also want to find out what happened to your father and who attacked him. Maybe we'll understand everything once your father wakes up."
Since Shao Jian started paying attention to Qiu Jingwen and Jiang Yuping, he has also been paying attention to Qiu's children.
In his eyes, the Qiu family daughters were all exceptionally beautiful, which was related to Qiu Jingwen and Jiang Yuping's original works.
Liang Damin took the initiative to leave the ward. He bought six bottles of soda from a shop outside the hospital, then gave one bottle each to Shao Jian and another police officer, one bottle each to Jiang Yuping, Qiu Yang, and Qiu Yue, and kept one bottle for himself.
In the sweltering summer heat, even without feeling tense or anxious, running around would normally leave you drenched in sweat.
The six people stood together in Qiu Jingwen's hospital room, their eyes fixed on Qiu Jingwen's calm and composed face despite his unconscious state.
The on-duty doctor pushed open the door and walked in. Seeing so many people, he said:
"Except for one family member who stays in the ward, everyone else should leave. Staying here is not good for the patient's health and recovery."
Although Shao Jian and another comrade were wearing police uniforms, in the doctor's eyes they seemed to be just like everyone else, without any special privileges. Moreover, the doctor did not know that Shao Jian was the deputy director of the Public Security Bureau.
As the wife, Jiang Yuping naturally stayed behind.
She sat on a chair beside Qiu Jingwen's hospital bed, gazing at her husband's calm face, tears welling up in her eyes.
In the more than 20 years of marriage, she and her husband have hardly ever argued. In her heart, her husband is the best husband in the world, as well as the most gentle and refined man. She also feels that she is the happiest woman in the world, and after becoming a mother, she is also the happiest mother.
She never dreamed that after more than 20 years of marriage, her husband would suddenly reveal himself to be a spy and take the blame for her, becoming the murderer of Liu Hanhan.
Looking at her husband's pale face, she wondered where he had been these past two days.
The Hongqi factory has been broadcasting through loudspeakers that Qiu Jingwen's arrest is just a rumor; he has not broken the law.
What exactly happened?
If the husband had been detained by the police, why was he released?
After she was released, who would attack her husband?
One problem after another popped up, leaving the meticulous Jiang Yuping completely bewildered.
It was almost past midnight when Qiu Jingwen, having probably worn off from the anesthesia, slowly opened his eyes.
When he saw his wife sitting beside him, tears welled up in his eyes.
As his tears flowed, Jiang Yuping's tears also welled up in her eyes.
She gripped Qiu Jingwen's hand tightly, buried her head in his chest, and whispered:
"Jingwen, my love, you've woken up."
Yes, Jiang Yuping used the lyrical lines: My love!
But it didn't sound affected or pretentious at all; it was a genuine expression of emotion.
Qiu Jingwen reached out and wiped away his wife's tears.
“Yuping, I’m sorry, it’s all my fault. I’ve broken this family and made you all worry and live in fear.”
Jiang Yuping shook her head.
“Jingwen, that wasn’t your fault. It was a historical misunderstanding. Back then, you were just a boy.”
At this point, she pressed her lips to Qiu Jingwen's ear and whispered:
"Jingwen, Shao Jian and Liang Damin are all waiting outside. They said they want to ask you about the attack. Also, our son Qiuyang and daughter Qiuyue are waiting in the corridor outside."
Qiu Jingwen nodded:
"I see".
Jiang Yuping still asked in a low voice:
"Jingwen, where have you spent the last two days?"
"It should be the police station detention center."
He used the character "吧" (ba), and Qiu Jingwen judged that the underground detention center must be a detention center.
"Then why did the police officer release you again?"
"Yuping, it's a long story. I'll tell you slowly after I'm discharged from the hospital and go home, okay?"
"Then how did you get attacked? And who attacked you?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Shao Jian stood outside the ward and knocked on the door.
