Chapter 133 Phone Call from an Acquaintance

The bedroom was quiet, and the couple tried to make a decision for a long time without success.

At this moment, Qiu Jingwen's body was lying on his wife, but his heart was with the butterfly.

He had just received a phone call home; he had been looking forward to it for a long time and had been worried about it for a long time.

For the past six months, because of the lack of news from Butterfly, Qiu Jingwen even considered another possibility: that Butterfly was dead. If that were the case, the other members of the Hidden Team would be like Liu Han, kites with broken strings. No one would be willing to come out as a spy again, let alone serve or risk their lives for the former damned Secret Service.

However, considering that the butterfly might have made contact with the other side of the sea and mentioned Project Mushroom, Qiu Jingwen felt that everything might be true. As for Project Mushroom, just from the name, he vaguely felt that it pointed to something.

Hongqi Factory is a military factory. If the explosives depot explodes, it would be equivalent to a huge mushroom cloud appearing in the sky above Hongqi Factory. That mushroom cloud would be the same as the pictures reported in the newspapers when the country conducted an atomic bomb test in the desert.

Indeed, for a time, Qiu Jingwen linked Project Mushroom to the explosion. To be precise, when he read about Project Mushroom in Liu Yihan's letter, certain images and scenes flashed through his mind. However, he didn't report this idea to Shao Jian. Before the matter was resolved, he didn't want to rely on reasoning to affect Shao Jian and his team's investigation, nor did he want to put pressure on the investigation team. It was this idea that made Qiu Jingwen determined to find Butterfly and capture all the remaining members of the dormant team, thus redeeming himself through meritorious service.

Furthermore, from the contents of the letter left by Liu Han, Qiu Jingwen knew that his parents were revolutionaries who must have sacrificed themselves in that raid. He was their only son, and as a descendant of revolutionaries, he also wanted to bring honor to his parents so that they could rest in peace in the afterlife.

Human thoughts are so active; from the butterfly, one thinks of Liu Han; from Liu Han's letters, one thinks of one's parents; and from one's parents, one thinks of one's older sister, Qiu Xuanxuan.

"Sister, where are you? Why have we not heard from you all these years?"

Lying on top of Jiang Yuping, Qiu Jingwen's mind wandered to his older sister, Qiu Xuanxuan.

Thinking of his sister, Qiu Jingwen slid off Jiang Yuping and said apologetically, "Yuping, go to sleep. It doesn't seem like I can tonight."

"Okay, now that you're the factory manager, your work is even harder."

Qiu Jingwen didn't respond. Instead, he reached out and tightly embraced his wife's waist. He knew better than anyone that whether he was a workshop director or had now been promoted to deputy factory director, it was all normal work. There was pressure, and it was hard work, but compared to life after Liu Han appeared, it was much easier. And now, right now, just now, Butterfly's phone call made him feel that nothing was over, and the trouble was still ongoing. The fact that Butterfly could call into his bedroom meant that this veteran agent lurking in the shadows knew everything about Qiu Jingwen's life and work, his family, and everything about him.

After starting work the next day, Qiu Jingwen first convened a meeting of the workshop directors. Around ten o'clock, he rode his bicycle to Liang Damin's office. As soon as Liang Damin saw his old friend Qiu Jingwen, he quickly smiled and said, "Old Qiu, no, I should call you Deputy Factory Director Qiu."

As he spoke, he handed Qiu Jingwen a Pegasus cigarette, but Qiu Jingwen smiled gently at Liang Damin and said, "Old Liang, what are you joking with me about? What factory director or not, it's just two more salary levels. Besides, you know my situation."

"Your sudden appearance in my office today, Old Qiu, must mean something."

"I was just passing by and I happened to have an urgent matter to attend to, so I needed to make a phone call."

Without much thought, Liang Damin picked up the microphone from his desk and handed it to Qiu Jingwen.

"Old Qiu, should I excuse myself for a moment?"

"It doesn't matter. I'll call someone I know. If you don't want to listen, you'd be better off going outside for a smoke."

Liang Damin wasn't stupid. He said he was just about to go to the toilet, but then turned to leave. Qiu Jingwen got a number from the switchboard and got through quickly.

"I am Lao Qiu, Qiu Jingwen."

"Old Qiu, I can tell from your voice, there's news about Mr. Hu?"

"Yes, he called my home last night and asked to borrow money from me."

"How much?".

"Three thousand".

"Haha, what a coincidence, it's also three thousand. Can you afford it?"

"That's not important. Could you please help me find out where the call came from?"

"It should be fine, Mr. Hu, how much time do you have?"

Two days.

"Be careful and contact us immediately if anything happens."

Qiu Jingwen hummed in agreement and hung up the phone. If Liang Damin had been nearby and overheard Qiu Jingwen's conversation, he would have guessed it was Shao Jian. However, he certainly wouldn't have known the meaning of their conversation, such as who Mr. Hu was referring to, much less that Mr. Hu was the spy codenamed Butterfly. He also couldn't understand why Qiu Jingwen chose to call Shao Jian from his office.

After hanging up the phone, Qiu Jingwen sat in Liang Damin's seat and smoked. Liang Damin hadn't returned yet, and he couldn't just leave without saying goodbye. When Liang Damin came in, the two of them first talked about some work-related matters. Liang Damin then took the initiative to shift the topic to the Liu Han case from half a year ago.

"Old Qiu, there are many things that are really hard to understand."

"Old Liang, what do you mean by this?"

"You're so smart, you can't possibly not understand, so I'll just be blunt. In the Liu Han case, the investigation team suddenly withdrew, and there were also spies who caused sabotage at the military factory. Now they all seem to have disappeared without a trace."

“Old Liang, you were the deputy head of the investigation team at the time, so you should know the situation better than I do.”
