Chapter 139 My Own Wife

The street was bustling with people. The woman in sunglasses seemed to realize that Qiu Jingwen was walking towards her, and she quickly took a step forward. But Qiu Jingwen ran up to her, as if to lift her veil: "Yu Ping, don't hide."

A familiar, affectionate address seemed to have a calming effect, freezing the woman in sunglasses in place.

Qiu Jingwen, whose face was flushed from drinking, stood directly in front of the woman in sunglasses with a broad smile.

"Haha, you figured it out."

Jiang Yuping took off her sunglasses and smiled gently at her husband, a smile that eased the awkward situation.

Perhaps because he had a few drinks, Qiu Jingwen joked, "So that woman had such a great figure, it turns out she's your wife. Have you eaten yet?"

"No, unlike you who's eaten and drunk your fill," Jiang Yuping said with a reproachful tone.

"Then you should eat something first."

As they spoke, Qiu Jingwen looked around, and Jiang Yuping smiled and said, "Don't worry, no one is watching or following you. Those who were following and watching you have all left."

"You're like the mantis stalking the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind it."

"Did you know it was me all along?"

"At first glance, I was just suspicious, but after looking at your height and build, I was almost certain."

"Shouldn't you give me an explanation for your actions today? Aren't they so-called spies who have infiltrated the area?"

"Yuping, eat first, and I'll tell you everything when we get home."

With her husband's attitude, Jiang Yuping felt there was no need to ask too many questions on the street, so she smiled and said, "You're treating."

"Of course, after we eat, I'll take you shopping."

"Okay, okay."

Jiang Yuping was as happy as a child.

We've been married for many years and have gone shopping before, but never under these circumstances.

Qiu Jingwen naturally couldn't bring his wife to the restaurant they had just eaten at, and Jiang Yuping didn't want to waste time eating either. Seeing a dumpling restaurant, she asked Qiu Jingwen to make her a bowl of dumplings. After lunch, they left the dumpling restaurant and Qiu Jingwen took his wife shopping at several department stores. He bought her a top and a set of underwear, and also bought winter clothes for Qiushou, Qiuchan, and Qiushui, as well as some canned goods, biscuits, and other food. They didn't get back to the factory until almost 5 PM. During this time, Jiang Yuping called home from a public phone booth, telling Qiushui and the others that he and their father were in the county town on business and asked Qiushui to cook dinner and wait for them.

In fact, when Jiang Yuping followed Qiu Jingwen out in the morning, she had already made arrangements with her children. They were going to the county town today and might come back in the evening. She told Qiu Shui to take Qiu Shou and Qiu Chan to cook for themselves.

When they got home, the children were delighted to see their parents had gone to the county town and brought back so much food and new clothes. They called out to their parents, their faces beaming with joy and happiness.

After dinner, the children happily went home to their bedrooms. Unlike summer, winter days are long, and by seven o'clock, it was completely dark. Jiang Yuping had originally planned to take a walk with her husband on a nearby country path, but unfortunately, a light winter rain started falling outside, so they had to return to their bedroom.

After plugging in the latch, Jiang Yuping sat down on the edge of the bed and looked at her husband's face under the lamplight, smiling as she asked, "Jingwen, now, can you tell me everything?"

Qiu Jingwen knew that there was no point in hiding it from his wife anymore, so he told Jiang Yuping everything. He told her about how he accepted Shao Jian's offer to become an undercover agent, and also about the appearance and intentions of the butterfly. Of course, he selectively reported and did not tell her everything.

"The old man you met with shouldn't be Butterfly, right?"

"You noticed?"

"Actually, you're being followed, and among those following you, there might be Butterfly."

"I also discovered two people were following me, and then I found out that you were following those two people."

"Did you report to Shao Jian and the others about your meeting in the county town today?"

Qiu Jingwen shook his head and told his wife his reasons for not reporting it. His wife scolded him, "Jingwen, my sense of security is a bit lacking. What if something unexpected happened today, and they found out that you had been turned and took action against you?"

"Yu Ping, don't worry. Zhou Hailin is just an old man. He's no match for me. As for the old man and the young man who were following me, I don't think they'd shoot at me directly. They just wanted to use Zhou Hailin to test the waters with their contacts today."

Right there, Qiu Shou stood outside the bedroom door and knocked, saying, "Dad, I have something to tell you."

When Qiu Jingwen heard that something was wrong with his son, he thought that his son had been followed by the Butterfly People again, so he pulled the latch, stroked Qiu Shou's head and asked, "Qiu Shou, what's wrong?"

"I received two phone calls at home this afternoon, and I answered them both. The voice sounded like that of Uncle Shao Jian from the Public Security Bureau."

"Are you sure?"

"I think so, I can recognize that voice."

"Didn't your Uncle Shao Jian say anything to you?"

"No, as soon as they heard it was me, they hung up."

"Okay, Dad knows. Go back to your bedroom and go to sleep."

Qiu Jingwen didn't need to explain so much to his son. He plugged the latch back in, returned to the bedside, and looked at the phone on the bedside table. He wondered if he should call Shao Jian to report on his outing and everything he had learned that day. But when he checked the time, it was almost nine o'clock, so he decided not to disturb him.

In fact, after being turned, Shao Jian not only gave Qiu Jingwen his usual office phone number, but also his home phone number, so that Qiu Jingwen could call his home in special circumstances.
