Qiu Jingwen suggested, "Why don't we go take a look now?"
Jiang Yuping thought for a moment and said, "No rush. The old lady must have thought of me because of Qiushui's photo. When Qiushui comes back, we can go see her together tonight."
What made Jiang Yuping somewhat impatient was that Qiu Shui had not returned by nine o'clock.
"Qiu Shui, where have you been? You didn't even say a word before coming back for dinner."
Jiang Yuping knew that her daughter must have been eating with Wang Hao.
"Mom, your daughter is all grown up now. It's not like when I was at the Hongqi Factory, that I was with Wang Hao."
She didn't hide it from her parents.
Jiang Yuping laughed and said, "Didn't you say you weren't dating Wang Hao? Why are you always together?"
Qiu Shui blushed deeply at those words and scolded, "Mom, you're getting more and more uncivilized. What do you mean by 'sticking together'? I'm not sticking together. It's you and Dad who are always sticking together."
Her daughter's words made Jiang Yuping blush.
"You brat, you always misinterpret my meaning and get things mixed up."
What I meant by "stuck together" was not what my daughter understood at all.
Of course, she also understood that her daughter did it on purpose.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries between the mother and daughter, Jiang Yuping finally got down to business.
She recounted her childhood experiences to her daughter, and Qiu Shui was astonished upon hearing it.
"Wow, Mom, I didn't know you had that dark past. I never knew my grandfather was a Japanese devil."
"Qiu Shui, what do you mean by 'dark history'? Your grandfather didn't do anything wrong."
"Hehe, I have more material for my novel. You can tell your daughter about your childhood sometime."
The small success of her previous novel made Qiu Shui realize that there was quite a market for writing spy novels. She also wanted to write a book about her family's spy life, and understanding her mother's childhood would help her in writing about her family.
It's too late.
Jiang Yuping and Qiu Jingwen decided to visit Kawashima Kenjiro's house the next day and made an appointment by phone.
That night, Jiang Yuping barely slept.
Many things about my parents and childhood are in my mind, like scenes from a movie.
The next day happened to be a day off.
After breakfast, Jiang Yuping, her husband, and their daughter each rode a bicycle directly to the agreed-upon residential area.
Qiu Jingwen bought a gift at the general store in front of the residential area.
This was his first time visiting his mother-in-law.
When the family of three arrived at the agreed-upon address, and saw the white-haired old lady standing in front of the door, Jiang Yuping's tears flowed freely.
