The thunder in the sky was still ringing.
One after another, they exploded, making people's hearts pound.
The rain was still pouring down.
Amid thunder and torrential rain, lightning flashed intermittently.
Liu Han's face turned ashen from Qiu Jingwen's choking, his eyes rolled upwards, and his feet seemed to leave the ground.
He strained with all his might, reached out and grabbed Qiu Jingwen's wrist, and managed to squeeze out an aged voice.
"Qiu---Jingwen, hurry up and let go! This is on your factory road. If you strangle me like this, do you want our identities as spies to be exposed right now? Do you want to be finished right now?"
As Qiu Jingwen gazed at Liu Han's old face amidst the rain and lightning, the hand that had been gripping his neck like an iron clamp finally loosened its grip.
He knew very well that...
Since Liu Han knew so much about him and his family situation, it was definitely not a chance encounter on the road today.
This Liu Han was clearly prepared.
Moreover, when he encountered other people from the factory on his way to and from get off work, they saw him grabbing an old man by the neck, turning a non-essential situation into a serious one.
For more than 20 years, Qiu Jingwen felt that he had lived a miserable life and regretted it.
Back then, just for a few silver dollars and to fill his stomach, he agreed to join the Military Intelligence Bureau with Liu Han without thinking. What he didn't expect was that after joining the Military Intelligence Bureau, the whole country was liberated, and Du Liang was also liberated.
Over the years, he has almost forgotten his identity as a secret agent.
Besides, no one from the Military Intelligence Bureau had ever contacted him, nor had they ever given him a single penny of operating funds. Qiu Jingwen had never done anything wrong; he had simply been an undercover agent until now.
"What the hell am I, a secret agent?!"
"To put it bluntly, he's just using the empty title of a spy."
Qiu Jingwen thought to himself, feeling depressed.
However, Qiu Jingwen, as the workshop director, knew exactly what was going on.
Although he hadn't done anything wrong, if his identity as a spy were exposed, it would be explosive news for the entire Hongqi Factory. Not only would he be completely finished, but his wife and children would also be implicated and suffer.
Thinking of all this, Qiu Jingwen wiped the rain off his face, exhaled, and then said to Liu Han:
"Liu Han, I have something to do at home today and don't have time to invite you to dinner. How about we arrange another time?"
Qiu Jingwen felt that since things had already happened, he couldn't lose his composure and had to calm Liu Han down first.
Liu Han was clearly satisfied after hearing this.
"Okay, then tomorrow. I'll be waiting for you in the woods of Orange Valley after nine o'clock tomorrow. I have an important task to assign you."
Upon hearing Liu Han mention the mission, Qiu Jingwen stared intently into his eyes.
"Liu Han, who are you trying to fool? What kind of bullshit mission is this? I'm not doing anything!"
Liu Han gave a cold laugh.
"Qiu Jingwen, stop spouting nonsense. This isn't like you, Qiu Jingwen. As for the mission, you'll find out when the time comes."
At this point, Liu Han reached out and patted Qiu Jingwen on the shoulder again.
"Qiu Jingwen, I'm warning you, don't try anything funny, or you'll regret it. You're a smart man, and I'm your superior. I can't do things without having a backup plan."
After saying this, Liu Han put his straw hat back on, got on his bicycle, and immediately left.
Watching Liu Han's departing figure, Qiu Jingwen swayed twice and almost fell to the ground.
Liu Han was, after all, a veteran spy. He not only recruited him into the Military Intelligence Bureau, but also served as his coach and teacher during the training course.
Qiu Jingwen understood that Liu Han's sudden appearance was something that had been planned long ago, just as he himself had said, it was impossible not to have a backup plan.
As for Liu Han, he didn't push Qiu Jingwen too hard.
He knew in his heart that he hadn't seen Qiu Jingwen for more than 20 years, and he was worried that if he pushed too hard, he would frighten Qiu Jingwen and his plan would be completely ruined.
As Qiu Jingwen watched Liu Han recede into the distance in the rain, his whole body trembled once more.
It feels like winter, not summer.
He gripped the bicycle handlebars with his right hand, raised his left hand, spread his fingers, and plunged them forcefully into his wet hair.
For about two or three minutes, Qiu Jingwen lay there with his face upturned, letting the torrential rain wash over his face.
He felt like he was dreaming, and he felt like his whole body was about to collapse.
"Old Qiu, what are you standing there in the rain doing, lost in thought?"
After an unknown amount of time, a familiar voice entered Qiu Jingwen's ears from behind him.
As the sound faded, the middle-aged man on the bicycle stopped beside him.
The man was very tall, almost 1.8 meters, with broad shoulders and a thick waist, but he did not appear fat.
The middle-aged man did not get off his bicycle, but instead put his feet in the water on the ground and pressed his buttocks on the bicycle pad.
Qiu Jingwen felt a little nervous when he saw that it was Liang Damin, the head of the security department.
"Old Liang, Liang Ke, I... the rain is too heavy, I can't ride my bicycle, so I have to push it."
"Old Qiu, why are you staring blankly at the sky? What's on your mind?"
"Old Liang, am I spacing out? I'm checking out this awful weather, wondering when this downpour is going to stop."
Qiu Jingwen explained while trying to calm himself down.
Liang Damin squinted at Qiu Jingwen, as if pondering his doubts.
"Hey Lao Qiu, I saw you standing here from a long way off. Okay, I'll walk with you and we can talk as we go."
After saying that, the two of them pushed their bicycles together and set off into the rain.
As Liang Damin pushed his bicycle, he glanced sideways at Qiu Jingwen.
"Hey, Lao Qiu, who was that guy up ahead? I saw him from far away, blocking your way with his bicycle. From behind, he didn't look like a good person at all."
