Chapter 49 Important Clues

Shao Jian's actual identity is the deputy director of the Jianghuai City Public Security Bureau, and he also temporarily serves as the captain of the criminal investigation team. He is a veteran police officer with rich experience.

As the leader of the working group stationed at the Red Flag Factory, his main task was to investigate clues about enemy agents infiltrated by the Kuomintang's secret service. After all, the Red Flag Factory was a military factory that produced explosives. If members of the secret service had infiltrated or were hiding inside the company, stealing intelligence would be a minor matter, but if they were to carry out a mission and cause an explosion, the consequences would be unimaginable.

He never expected that just two days after the investigation team arrived at the Hongqi Factory, a murder would occur in the nearby woods.

Moreover, based on various clues, the scars on Liu Xianghai's face, and the calluses from handling a gun, Shao Jian and the investigation team concluded that Liu Xianghai was very likely an enemy agent, or at least a prime suspect.

Upon hearing Jiang Yuping mention her son Qiuyang, Shao Jian immediately understood that Jiang Yuping, as his mother, should not have known that Qiushou had been taken to the guesthouse for questioning. Furthermore, the information that he and Liang Damin deliberately released to Qiu Jingwen should not have been disclosed to his wife Jiang Yuping by Qiu Jingwen either; otherwise, Jiang Yuping would not have mentioned her eldest son Qiuyang.

In the morning, Liang Damin deliberately went to find Qiu Jingwen and told him that Qiu Shou had been taken in for questioning by the investigation team and that Jiang Yuping had had contact with the deceased. This was a deliberate arrangement by Shao Jian and the investigation team. They wanted to see if Qiu Jingwen would reveal any information to his wife. He wanted to analyze through various phenomena whether Qiu Jingwen's family had any substantial relationship with Liu Xianghai.

What others didn't know was that when investigating Qiu Jingwen's background and finding it to be clean, coupled with the opinions of Zhou Huaihai and Liang Damin regarding Qiu Jingwen's performance in the factory over the years, Shao Jian ruled out the possibility that Qiu Jingwen was a secret agent.

However, when Qiu Shou reported the information and revealed that Jiang Yuping and Liu Xianghai were connected, Shao Jian had to re-examine Qiu Jingwen.

Because he knew very well that if Qiu Jingwen was an enemy agent, he must have been very well hidden and had been trained so that he would not reveal any flaws in his files or work.

However, Shao Jian felt that Qiu Jingwen's age didn't quite fit. If Qiu Jingwen was a hidden agent, it would mean that he joined the Military Intelligence Bureau when he was young. Although it was possible, the concept was not very strong.

It can be said that in Shao Jian's mind, although Qiu Jingwen was very innocent, the possibility of him being involved with someone else could no longer be ruled out.

Of course, Shao Jian and the investigation team have already figured out that Qiu Jingwen has not had any contact with Liu Xianghai so far, nor is there any possibility that he would appear at the crime scene. According to the later autopsy report, when Liu Xianghai was killed, Qiu Jingwen should have been dealing with an incident in the workshop, and the deputy director Jin Dahai can testify to this.

However, Shao Jian also found out that Deputy Director Jin Dahai was promoted by Qiu Jingwen, and it was unclear whether Jin Dahai would give false testimony.

When Shao Jian confirmed that Jiang Yuping was truly unaware of the situation, he told the other party:

"Dr. Jiang, it's not your eldest son, it's your youngest son, Qiushou."

This was something Jiang Yuping hadn't expected.

She was somewhat surprised, wondering why her youngest son, Qiushou, had any connection with Liu Han.

So she just looked at him quietly, as if waiting for Shao Jian to explain to her.

Shao Jian didn't want to hide the matter, so he told Jiang Yuping the whole story of bringing Qiu Shou to ask questions.

After all, Qiu Jingwen already knew about Qiu Shou being brought in for questioning. They were a model couple, and after they went home that night, they would have talked and everything would be clear. There was no point in hiding it anymore.

The questioning lasted about half an hour, during which Shao Jian smiled as he looked at Jiang Yuping.

"Dr. Jiang, that's all we need to know for now. If you know anything else, please let us know so we can work together to protect the lives and property of the employees of Hongqi Factory. Thank you for your cooperation."

Jiang Yuping said "You're welcome" and then walked out of the office accompanied by staff.

This is a business, not a police station, and there is no interrogation room. In the absence of evidence, this is simply an investigation to understand the situation.

After Jiang Yuping left, Wu Dinghuai looked at Shao Jian.

"Director Shao, do you think Dr. Jiang is a suspect? After all, she is a doctor, and Liu Xianghai's real cause of death was potassium chloride poisoning."

Shao Jian stared at the spot where Jiang Yuping had just sat, pondered for a moment, and then slowly spoke:

"Anything is possible. Doctors are naturally aware of the toxicity of potassium cyanide, but we have learned that the Hongqi Factory clinic does not have this highly toxic drug at all."

After listening, Zhao Le looked at Shao Jian and said:

"Director Shao, does that mean we can rule out Jiang Yuping as a suspect?"

Shao Jian shook his head.

"Of course not. If we assume that Liu Xianghai is a secret agent, then his contact with Dr. Jiang is suspicious. We cannot rule out the possibility that Dr. Jiang is also a secret agent or has been bribed by enemy agents."

“Think about it. According to her son Qiushou, Liu Xianghai seemed to be following him at the time. If that’s true, why would Liu Xianghai follow a child? There are many possibilities.”

After all, Shao Jian was a veteran criminal investigator, so Wu Dinghuai asked with interest:

"Director Shao, can you analyze this for us? What are the possible scenarios?"

Shao Jian looked up at the empty space above, then turned to Wu Dinghuai:

“Dinghuai, Zhao Le, I’m thinking about it too, but it’s all still hypothetical. We need to find evidence. Reasoning is important in solving cases, but if we want to solve a case in the end, we must have enough evidence. Evidence is the foundation for defining a case.”

Zhao Le nodded in agreement with his leader's point of view.

"Director Shao, what you've said is essentially meaningless. Please give us more details, even just reasoning. This will give us a direction and a focus, because so far, the only people we've found connected to the deceased are Dr. Jiang and his son Qiushou. There aren't any other significant leads yet."
