Chapter 60 Little Sherlock Holmes

Jiang Yuping sometimes buys eels from the small market and braises them into eel segments for the children.

As a doctor with surgical experience, killing an eel shouldn't be unusual, but she had never killed an eel herself. Every time she bought an eel, her husband, Qiu Jingwen, would kill it. In any case, Qiu Yue had never seen her mother kill an eel, nor any other creatures or poultry such as chickens or ducks.

The eel that the mother put into the pool was as thick as a baby's wrist. With regular black and yellow stripes on its body, it looked somewhat like a python, and just one glance at it made people feel scared.

Therefore, when Qiuyue watched her mother smash the eel's head with a kitchen knife, she did feel that her mother's actions were too violent, which is why she sighed at her mother's ferocity and barbarity.

Unexpectedly, Jiang Yuping looked up at her daughter and said expressionlessly:

"Qiuyue, believe it or not, Mom would dare to kill someone!"

These words truly terrified Qiuyue!

She stared at her mother, mouth agape in horror:

"Mom, what did you say? You dare to kill someone?! Did I hear that right?"

Jiang Yuping immediately realized that her words had frightened her daughter, so she gave a gentle smile.

"Qiuyue, Mom misspoke. What I meant was that if we encounter special circumstances, such as bad people trying to harm you, my brothers and sisters, or our family, I might actually dare to kill someone. After all, I'm a doctor, I'm capable of performing surgeries, so killing a bad person isn't out of the question!"

Qiu Yue was completely bewildered and terrified.

To be honest, she both understood and didn't understand her mother's meaning; it was all ambiguous.

But her mother's explanation calmed her down a little.

So she echoed her mother's sentiments, saying:

"Mom, I won't let anyone who dares to hurt the five of us siblings get away with it. I might even kill someone."

Jiang Yuping smiled:

"Look, you also have this kind of murderous thought, right? Many people sometimes do terrible things because they are forced by their environment. No one is born liking to kill or set fires. When someone infringes on your personal safety or the safety of your family's lives, courage will be aroused, and the devilish side will be shown to everyone."

At this point, she calmed down and became gentle with her daughter again.

"Alright, Qiuyue, let's not talk about killing people. I stunned this big eel, so I need to dissect it. Can you help me clean and prepare the vegetables? Your dad and brother should be home soon."

Yes, Jiang Yuping used the medical term "anatomy".

Qiuyue responded and immediately carried the vegetables her mother had bought to the outer dining room, dumped them on the table, and began to tidy them up.

She sorted the food, then took a plastic basin from the kitchen, put it in the basin, carried it to the bathroom, rinsed it with water from the tap, and then put it on the dining table.

After making these preparations, Qiuyue took out a kitchen knife and cutting board from the kitchen, and then took out a few plates from the cupboard.

Nineteen-year-old Qiuyue, while not exactly a skilled cook, was usually in charge of the meals when her mother was away on business trips. Of course, Qiu Jingwen would sometimes try to cook as well, but Qiuyue always refused to let her father, the workshop director, do it.

Qiuyue used a kitchen knife to chop tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers, placing them on separate plates. She also cut a large eggplant into small pieces, soaked them in water in a plastic bowl, and sprinkled some salt on top. This method, taught to her by her mother Jiang Yuping, makes the eggplant crisper and softer when stir-fried.

After she finished all this, Jiang Yuping had already killed the eels and several crucian carp and put them in different large bowls, ready to cook them.

The coal stove had long been fitted with a new piece of charcoal, and the blue flames had already heated the bottom of the pot.

Jiang Yuping decided to first braise the crucian carp, then braise the eel, and finally stir-fry some vegetables and make a tomato and egg soup. That should make a rich and delicious dinner.

Jiang Yuping knew that her husband had deliberately arranged for their son, Qiuyang, to come home today.

Jiang Yuping committed murder, and her husband was a spy. The opportunity for the family to be together was precious. Perhaps one day, her murder of Liu Han would be exposed, and her husband's identity as a spy could be uncovered by the investigation team at any time. No matter which of these things happened, this family would be in tragedy and plunged into complete darkness. The family would never be able to reunite again, and a happy and warm family would be completely destroyed.

Thinking of all this, Jiang Yuping felt a deep sadness.

She even regretted that she shouldn't have impulsively killed Liu Han.

After all, it was murder. Although Liu Han deserved to die, and although Liu Han was a special agent and enemy agent, she shouldn't have ended his life, nor did she have that right.

Four cleaned and gutted crucian carp were placed on a large plate, one of which was staring intently at her.

"What are you looking at? I'll throw you into the oil pot in a minute!"

Jiang Yuping actually spoke softly to the fish.

At that moment, Qiuyue was bringing the chopped vegetables to the kitchen.

She heard her mother's words and found them strange, so she asked:

"Mom, are you talking to the fish or the eel?"

Jiang Yuping looked up at her daughter:

"Oh, did Mom say anything?"

Qiu Yue was even more surprised after hearing this.

She went into the kitchen, reached out and brushed a strand of hair from her mother's forehead, staring at her mother's face as she asked:

"Mom, what's wrong with you today? You're talking strangely. One minute you're talking about murder, the next you're talking to Yu'er. Something's not right. Did something happen? Did you argue with Dad, or did something happen in the infirmary?"
