When Qiu Shui saw her brother asking about her younger brother and sister, she pouted and looked somewhat displeased.
But she still responded:
"Brother, those two little brats must have gone out to play."
At this point, staring at the autumn sun, he added:
"By the way, brother, I heard you're dating. When are you going to bring your future sister-in-law home so Mom and Dad can meet her and us? Let's see if she's pretty and if she's a good match for my handsome brother."
Qiu Yang had no time to share his girlfriend Su Xiaowei's story with his younger sister Qiu Shui.
Besides, ever since he learned that his father was a Kuomintang agent, he had no interest in dating Su Xiaowei.
He could even imagine that one day his father's identity as a spy and murderer would be exposed, causing an uproar throughout the entire Hongqi Factory. Whether Su Xiaowei could become his girlfriend was also uncertain. Even if Su Xiaowei didn't change her mind, it was unclear whether her parents and siblings would agree. In any case, the future of this girlfriend was uncertain, and it had nothing to do with whether they loved each other.
Who in this world can accept a boyfriend whose father is a spy and a murderer?!
A brief moment of distraction and reflection allowed the perceptive Qiu Shui to catch something.
She frowned as she looked at the autumn sun.
"Brother, what are you thinking about? Are you thinking about your girlfriend?"
"Look at your book! How old are you? Girlfriend, girlfriend, what do you know about boyfriends and girlfriends?!"
After saying that, he turned and left without waiting for his sister's response.
His purpose was to inquire about the situation of his younger brother Qiushou and his younger sister Qiuchan.
Qiu Jingwen and Liang Damin were still playing chess, but they were making their moves very slowly.
Xiao Jianhua watched from the side, occasionally adding water to the two section chiefs' teacups.
Around 5:40, Qiu Shou and Qiu Chan went home.
Both of them were covered in sweat, and Qiu Chan's two braids had come undone, her little face rosy from the blazing sun.
The two little ones, seeing the table full of food, were so excited that they forgot about the heat and their sweaty faces.
Qiu Shou reached directly into the plate, grabbed a piece of braised chicken, put it in his mouth, and ate it with great enjoyment.
When Qiu Chan saw her younger brother eating chicken nuggets without washing his hands, she drooled and complained to her mother in the kitchen.
"Mom, come out and take a look! My little brother came home and ate chicken nuggets without even washing his hands. He has no hygiene at all."
Jiang Yuping seemed not to have heard her daughter's complaint, and only responded to Qiushui after a few seconds.
"Qiu Shui, the food is in your little brother's stomach, not in your stomach. Why do you care so much? When you get home, you should take your little brother to wash his hands first."
Instead of blaming her younger brother, her mother blamed her, which made Qiu Chan feel wronged.
"Mom, you're being biased. Fine, you won't say anything about my younger brother, huh? I'll eat too."
As she spoke, she seemed to be sulking with her mother. She took a piece of chicken and, while eating it, made a mischievous face at her younger brother.
Wei Hong watched the autumn harvest and the cicadas' movements, and simply smiled knowingly.
It wasn't her first time visiting her best friend's house. All the children were adorable, especially Qiu Shou and Qiu Chan. In her eyes, they were just little kids, and all their behavior was understandable and acceptable; it was all just innocent and romantic behavior.
Seeing that preparations were almost complete, Jiang Yuping addressed Qiu Shou:
"Autumn harvest, go and call your dad and uncles to come over for dinner."
Qiu Shou, his mouth greasy from eating chicken nuggets, readily agreed and then went into the living room.
After calling for the adults, the little guy went to his room to call for his older sister, Qiushui.
With a family of seven, plus Wei Hong and her husband, and Liang Damin, making a total of ten people, the eight-immortal table seemed a bit crowded.
Upon seeing this, Qiu Yue turned to her mother and said:
"Mom and Dad, I'm not hungry. You two eat first. I'll go back to my room and read for a while."
Qiu Shui was also very sensible; seeing her sister say this, she quickly replied:
"Uncle, aunt, dad, mom, brother, sister, you eat first. My sister and I will talk later. Please leave some food for us."
Liang Damin could tell at a glance that there weren't enough seats at the table, so he laughed and said:
"Sit down and eat together, it's okay if it's a little crowded."
Qiu Yue and Qiu Shui had already left the living room. Qiu Jingwen said:
"Old Liang, forget it. This eight-person table can only seat eight people. Let's drink first. The girls can eat later."
At this point, he looked up at his wife, Jiang Yuping.
"Yu Ping, please get two clean plates and leave some food for Qiu Yue and Qiu Shui."
Jiang Yuping nodded and found a clean plate, first picking out some vegetables for her two daughters.
In the past, Jiang Yuping might not have needed to do this. When guests came to her home, she would invite them to eat first. However, she knew in her heart that although Qiuyue and Qiushui were older and knew right from wrong, it was just that their family's time of reunion was suddenly cut short.
Qiu Yang poured wine for several elders, including Wei Hong and Jiang Yuping. He also poured himself a bottle of baijiu. In front of Qiu Shou and Qiu Chan, there was a bottle of orange soda, and two more bottles were reserved for Qiu Yue and Qiu Shui.
About half an hour later, Qiushou put down his chopsticks, greeted the adults at the table, and then said to Qiuchan beside him:
"Sister, are you done eating? If you are, we'll give our seats to Qiuyue and Qiushui."
Looking at the autumn harvest and then at everyone else, the cicada had no choice but to agree:
"Okay, I'm full too."
So, Qiushou and Qiuchan left the restaurant and called their two older sisters over.
After Qiu Yue sat down, she looked at Qiu Jingwen and asked:
"Dad, can I drink baijiu? I want to have some drinks with Uncle Liang, Uncle Xiao, and Aunt Wei Hong."
Upon seeing his daughter's expression, Qiu Jingwen glanced at his son, Qiu Yang.
