Chapter 97 Surrender

Investigation room.

Shao Jian and Wu Dinghuai sat opposite Jiang Yuping, while Liang Damin sat to one side listening.

Wu Dinghuai was in charge of the questioning.

"Dr. Jiang Yuping, hello. We've called you here mainly to verify some things."

Jiang Yuping certainly couldn't betray Liang Damin.

She wouldn't proactively reveal the three thousand yuan; instead, she would pretend to be unaware of it.

"Officer, go ahead and ask."

Jiang Yuping remained calm.

In fact, she had already made up her mind to simply admit everything and tell Shao Jian about the murder of Liu Han, so that these people would not waste their energy and might eventually target her husband, Qiu Jingwen.

"We found in your postal savings book that you withdrew three thousand yuan some time ago, on the afternoon of June 22nd. Is that true?"

Yes, that's true.

"Can you tell us what this money is for?"

"Officer, this is my personal privacy, can I not say it?"

"Dr. Jiang, please cooperate with our work, because we suspect that this money of yours may be related to the deceased Liu Xianghai."

"Officer, I don't understand. How is my money related to the deceased?"

“Okay, I’ll tell you straight. The deceased, Liu Xianghai, kept a mistress on the streets of Yushan Township. That mistress was sick and had to be hospitalized some time ago. Liu Xianghai provided more than 2,000 yuan for her hospitalization and treatment. Moreover, we found more than 1,000 yuan in cash in Liu Xianghai’s home. Let me be frank, we suspect that the 3,000 yuan you withdrew from the post office savings bank was given to Liu Xianghai.”

"Officer, isn't this a far-fetched argument? Do you have any concrete evidence?"

"Don't ask us for evidence. Please cooperate with our work and tell us the specific purpose of your cash withdrawal."

Jiang Yuping did not respond.

She knew that this was a loophole and a point of contention.

Three thousand yuan is not a small amount; any lie fabricated will eventually be exposed.

If you simply refuse to say anything, the other party won't be able to do anything about it; it's practically tantamount to admitting that the money is related to Liu Xianghai.

Seeing Jiang Yuping hesitate, Shao Jian suddenly spoke up:

"Dr. Jiang, let me be clear with you. The murdered Liu Xianghai was just an alias. His real name was Liu Han, codenamed Rattlesnake. He was a Kuomintang agent who had been infiltrating since the early days of the People's Republic of China. This is no small matter. If you don't cooperate, you will bear the consequences. You need to think this through."

Shao Jian suddenly revealed Liu Han's identity as a spy to see how Jiang Yuping would react.

Jiang Yuping never expected that Shao Jian would suddenly tell her about the deceased Liu Xianghai's identity as a spy.

She briefly considered that Shao Jian's revelation might be interpreted as meaning that as long as she confessed, the person she killed was, after all, a spy, and perhaps she could be treated leniently under the law.

Time passed second by second.

Liang Damin did not expect that Shao Jian would tell Jiang Yuping about Liu Han's identity as a spy, after all, it was top secret information.

Jiang Yuping was initially calm, but suddenly became emotional.

"Okay, okay, I'm about to break down too. Officer, I'll confess everything. I admit, I killed that barber!"

For Shao Jian, this information seemed to be within his expectations, and he did not show much surprise on his face.

For Wu Dinghuai and Zhao Le, this information was a complete surprise.

The most surprised person was Liang Damin, who was sitting to the side.

When he heard Jiang Yuping confess that she was the murderer of Liu Han, he trembled all over, as if the murderer was not Jiang Yuping, but him, Liang Damin.

He could never have imagined that Jiang Yuping, a weak woman, could kill a Kuomintang agent, even if that agent was already old and frail.

Time seemed to freeze once again.

Shao Jian stared at Jiang Yuping with a serious expression. After a long while, he finally asked:

"Dr. Jiang Yuping, this is no joke. Tell me, did you kill Liu Han?"

"Yes, I killed that old lecher."

"What, you old lecher?"

"He threatened me with the lives of my son and daughter to make me have sex with him."

Jiang Yuping's words were like a thunderbolt from the blue.

A huge wave of controversy was stirred up in the small meeting room.

For a doctor, there's nothing to avoid about sexual relations. As for his husband, An Shaojian, he didn't think anything of it either, after all, Jiang Yuping was a doctor. Wu Dinghuai and Zhao Le, on the other hand, felt embarrassed and hot-faced, since they were still very young.

Besides, this was in the 1970s. Even though they were police officers, the term "sexual relationship" was still a very bold way of putting it.

Liang Damin was utterly stunned by the words "sexual relationship"!

He wondered if he was dreaming or if he was hallucinating.

After hearing this, Shao Jian let out a breath and then looked at Jiang Yuping:

"Jiang Yuping, please tell me the specific process."

"I---I---I can't describe the specific process. I killed that old lecher in self-defense."

At that very moment, Qiu Jingwen pushed open the door to the investigation team's office.

His arrival immediately silenced the meeting room once again.

No one expected Qiu Jingwen to suddenly appear.

Wu Dinghuai was the first to stand up, pulling out his pistol from his waist, while Shao Jian also suddenly stood up from his seat.

Wu Dinghuai reacted this way because he felt that since his superior, Shao Jian, thought Qiu Jingwen had problems and was likely the subordinate Liu Han had recruited, then Qiu Jingwen was a dangerous element.

A man who looks like a secret agent suddenly rushed in. If he had a gun, it wouldn't be difficult for him to take out several of them.
