The night had already slipped deeper into the night.
Under the faint starlight, Qiu Jingwen stared at the gun in his hand.
He knew he couldn't possibly bring the gun home in his bag; that would be too dangerous.
The stream in front of him was still very familiar to Qiu Jingwen, although he had only come here occasionally in recent years. Sometimes, he and his wife would go into the forest to exercise on their days off.
If we trace it back further, he also caught fish and shrimp, and dug out crabs and turtles in this stream.
That was before he became the deputy director. Back then, the living conditions at the Hongqi Factory weren't as good as they are now. Catching some fish and shrimp was a way to satisfy one's cravings and improve one's life. Qiu Jingwen remembers that when his wife, Jiang Yuping, gave birth to Qiuyang and Qiuyue, he would catch some fish and shrimp to help his wife produce breast milk.
In Qiu Jingwen's memory, in the middle of this stream, there was a huge rock several meters high with a strange shape. Some people even saw that its appearance resembled a man's genitals.
Qiu Jingwen followed the stream and soon saw the huge rock that was several people tall.
He surveyed his surroundings and location, then chose to squat down under a beech tree next to the rock.
Using the light of the night, Qiu Jingwen found a stone slab and quickly dug a small pit under the tree. He then took out a pair of old gauze gloves from his backpack. He carefully stuffed Bo Langning into the large gloves, then carefully wrapped the other gauze ...
After doing all that, Qiu Jingwen gathered some leaves and scattered them on the fresh soil as camouflage.
In Qiu Jingwen's logical thinking, since he had been awakened by Liu Han, the other members of the infiltrating group might also have been awakened. It was not impossible that these group members would have some interaction in the future. And this gun and the bullets inside, just as Liu Han had said, might be useful in the future.
However, Qiu Jingwen couldn't understand why Liu Han would hand over Bo Langning to him.
After doing everything, Qiu Jingwen followed the path he had come from, found his bicycle, and then pushed it out of the woods.
Qiu Jingwen habitually raised his wrist to check his watch; almost an hour and a half had passed.
All told, the meeting between him and Liu Han lasted at most half an hour, and most of the time was spent pushing the cart through the woods, because Qiu Jingwen took a detour, entering the woods from another part of the village, rather than going straight in from the Hongqi Factory road entrance.
After leaving the woods, Qiu Jingwen got on his bicycle.
Instead of going straight home, he bought a bottle of Erwotou (a type of Chinese liquor) from a nearby supply and marketing cooperative, along with some biscuits and packaged peanuts.
After leaving the supply and marketing cooperative, Qiu Jingwen sat down in a rural field, opened a shovel and gulped down a few mouthfuls, then opened a box of peanuts and threw a few grains into his mouth.
Qiu Jingwen wasn't trying to drown his sorrows in alcohol; he wanted to disguise himself by pretending he had just been drinking with others. Only then could he reasonably explain things to his wife when he got home.
This was a plot that Qiu Jingwen had planned long ago; he didn't want his wife to worry about him.
The night deepened.
The wind in the fields ruffled Qiu Jingwen's thick hair.
Qiu Jingwen had a Pegasus cigarette dangling from his lips, and sparks occasionally flew as he inhaled.
"Go home, your wife is still in bed."
Qiu Jingwen urged himself to go home.
He put the unfinished wine in his backpack, along with the uneaten peanuts and biscuits, then got on his bicycle and rode very fast towards home.
When Qiu Jingwen returned home, he tiptoed into the bedroom and, seeing his wife rolling around on the bed in her arms, felt his blood rush to his head.
He rushed to the bedside, grabbed his wife's arm, and asked anxiously:
"Yuping, Yuping, what's wrong with you? Is your headache acting up again?"
