"Qiu Jingwen, is it really as serious as you say? Without three thousand yuan, you're finished, and our family is finished?"
Qiu Jingwen hummed in response.
After more than ten seconds, he suddenly said:
“Yu Ping, I was just talking nonsense. Maybe things aren’t that serious.”
"Jingwen, you need money the day after tomorrow, right? I'll take some time tomorrow to go to the county bank to withdraw the money, but I have one request."
Qiu Jingwen became alert and looked up at his wife.
"What are the requirements?"
“When you give them the three thousand yuan, I have to go with you. I want to see who is trying to extort this three thousand yuan from my husband.”
Qiu Jingwen immediately refused.
"No, absolutely not. Forget it then. I'd rather not have the money. Let everything that's meant to come come, and let everything that's meant to happen happen."
For the next night, Qiu Jingwen refused to say a single word.
After Jiang Yuping's inquiries yielded no results, she knew in her heart that her husband would not tell her the truth.
She stopped asking questions, opened her eyes, imagined all sorts of possibilities, and even used the thoughts she had gleaned from reading Sherlock Holmes's detective stories to analyze and deduce.
Based on her years of understanding of her husband, Jiang Yuping concluded that he must have been framed.
She never dreamed that her husband was a secret agent before they met and married.
Starting the next day, Jiang Yuping and Qiu Jingwen acted as if nothing had happened, continuing their normal lives and work.
On the morning of the third day, a car happened to be going into the county town from the clinic, so Jiang Yuping went with it.
Having prepared her passbook, she went to the post office savings bank and withdrew three thousand yuan directly.
When she got home that evening, after the family had eaten dinner, she quietly handed three thousand yuan to her husband.
"Here's three thousand yuan. I've withdrawn all of it from my current account and part of it from my fixed-term account!"
As Jiang Yuping spoke, tears streamed down her face.
It would be a lie to say I don't care about the money.
But what hurt Jiang Yuping even more was that her husband wouldn't tell her what he wanted the money for.
After Qiu Jingwen took the money, he hugged his wife, tears blurring his vision.
"Yu Ping, I hope that this money can resolve everything and allow our lives to be peaceful from now on."
“Jingwen, since you’re unwilling to tell me, I won’t ask anymore. It doesn’t matter if the money is gone, as long as everyone is safe and sound, as long as our family is safe and sound, then the money was well spent.”
“Yuping, this money was actually borrowed from me, and Lao Liu promised to pay us back later.”
"Old Liu, who is Old Liu?"
Jiang Yuping stared at her husband and asked.
Upon hearing this, Qiu Jingwen realized he had let something slip and quickly explained to his wife.
"No, no, no, it's nothing, Lao Liu---ah, Lao Liu, just a drinking buddy from the countryside."
Qiu Jingwen first spoke incoherently, and then repeated the same story he had told Jin Dahai about borrowing money to his wife Jiang Yuping.
With Jiang Yuping's intelligence, she naturally knew that her husband was lying to her.
If the husband really needed the money for his friend's son's wedding, building a house, and buying a radio, sewing machine, and watch, he wouldn't be saying this now, much less that he's finished and the family is ruined.
Jiang Yuping didn't press the matter further; she had her own thoughts and plans.
