Chapter 12 Ability

Tachycardia, elevated blood pressure, fever and sweating, swelling of the extremities, degeneration of pain-sensing nerves...

Todd's brain was racing.

Combined with the parasite in the adrenal gland, these symptoms are clearly manifestations of excessive adrenaline secretion!

The battle continues.

The pain in his arms brought the giant back to some consciousness. He lowered his shoulders and used his right leg to sweep towards Huggins' hem.

The man's eyes widened, realizing something was wrong. He quickly withdrew his hands and held them in front of his chest to block the leg whip.

With a slight cracking sound, Huggins was kicked into the air by tremendous force, slamming face down and back up against the top of the cave before crashing heavily to the ground.

The giant roared and raised his massive foot, stomping it heavily on Huggins' head.

Todd watched in horror, wanting to stop it but unsure how he could help. Suddenly remembering Edgar's ghostly speed behind him, he quickly pointed at the man on the ground and shouted, "Edgar! Help him!"

A gray blur swept past him as Edgar sprinted to Harkins' side just before the giant's foot landed, pulling him aside.

Boom!

Little Jerry stepped onto the empty ground, and the ground trembled slightly.

Looking through the giant's lower abdomen with X-ray vision at the leech that was constantly expanding and contracting, Todd quickly recalled everything from his university pathology class.

When adrenaline levels rise, blood vessels in skeletal muscles, liver, heart, and brain dilate, resulting in increased blood flow and providing sufficient oxygen and nutrients, thus greatly enhancing the body's athletic performance and physical attributes. On the other hand, adrenaline promotes the breakdown of glycogen and fat, inhibits insulin secretion, and significantly increases the concentration of nutrients in the blood, providing a large amount of energy for exercise and greatly enhancing the body's explosive power.

However, judging from Jerry's physical condition, he was secreting too much adrenaline, which put an excessive burden on his body, reduced his brain's self-discipline, and even showed signs of adrenaline poisoning.

We need to find a way to cool down his adrenaline!

After comparing the various solutions he had learned in university classrooms, Todd realized that things weren't that simple.

The nerve-blocking and depressant drugs used in medicine are currently unavailable. Even if they were, getting this crazed giant to ingest them would be an impossible task.

However, if we only consider reducing physiological functions and slowing blood circulation, there might be some other solutions...

Edgar supported the incapacitated Huggins on his shoulder, dodging the giant's attacks with his speed while enduring the pain and weakness caused by the black gas on his shoulder. His heavy breathing and pale face showed that the child could not hold on for much longer.

Todd called out to the two men, "Huggins! Edgar! Is there anywhere cold around here?"

Struggling to pull his gloves from his waist and put them back on, Huggins whispered something to the person next to him.

Edgar nodded and helped the man run out of the cave.

The three fleeing individuals, along with the giant relentlessly pursuing them, dodged and weaved through an underground cave until they finally reached a natural underground river.

Following the others, Little Jerry jumped into the river. Due to the icy water temperature, his movements became slower and slower, and finally, with a low growl, he collapsed unconscious by the riverbank.

Todd, chilled to the bone and shivering from the cold, gradually lost consciousness amidst hunger and cold.

I don't know how much time has passed.

Todd slowly opened his eyes, and a rough, large hand was placed on his forehead, a warm force flowing from his head throughout his body.

"He's awake!"

Huggins’s usual loud voice rang out first.

The boy's thoughts were a little out of sync with reality: "What am I doing..."

With his left arm wrapped in a wooden board and bandages, the Slavic man scratched the back of his head and said with a beaming smile, "Praise be to God! It's been almost half a day, and you're finally awake!"

Master Myris withdrew his hand, glanced at Huggins, and silenced him immediately.

Slowly sitting up, Todd looked around. Master Myris, Hudgens, Edgar, and Little Jerry had all come to his side, looking at him with concern.

After the teacher gave him a lecture and the student promised not to misbehave again, Master Myris announced that the two days of classes would be suspended and that Todd should focus on recuperating.

After the old man left the room, Hudgens and Edgar visibly relaxed. One found a chair and sat down, while the other sat cross-legged on the floor against the wall. Only little Jerry was left standing respectfully by the bed, his head bent over against the ceiling.

Looking at this 18-year-old youth, who was as thin as a bamboo pole and had a timid look on his face, Todd couldn't reconcile him with the ferocious giant in the cave.

He shook his head and asked the others, "Are you all alright?"

Huggins pointed to his arm with a wry smile, then rubbed his back in pain. Edgar twisted his shoulders, grimacing.

Todd paused, wanting to ask about the underground cave, but not knowing where to begin.

Seeing his expression, Huggins guessed what was going on and decided to explain directly to him: "Master Myris once told you that we are all different species. I think telling you the truth about us now shouldn't be a big deal."

As he spoke, he removed the glove from one hand, and a faint black aura slowly emanated from the man's palm. Huggins looked at his hand and sighed, "My alien ability is weakening. Any creature that comes into contact with my hands will slowly lose its vitality and die from exhaustion."

The man, who had put his gloves back on, pointed at Edgar: "This kid's ability is speed; he's even faster than a warhorse running at full speed."

Turning his gaze to little Jerry, the man felt a throbbing pain in his back and said irritably, "This guy's ability is Berserk. For a short period of time, he can gain several times the strength, speed, and pain resistance of an ordinary person, but he will lose his mind and attack those around him indiscriminately. Once the time is up, he will fall into a coma. Moreover, he will automatically enter Berserk state every once in a while. It used to be once a month, but it has been getting shorter and shorter, until now it has been shortened to three days."

Huggins twisted his neck and continued, "Last night was his rage time. We originally planned to chain him up underground, let him bang on the walls and stomp his feet to vent for a while, and that would be it. But then you found that place..."

Todd looked sullen.

I guess my curiosity killed the cat.
