Chapter 127 Conquest and Persuasion

After the war, the Knights found a considerable amount of treasure and a large quantity of gold and silver coins in the Viscount's residence. Looking at the cartload of gold and jewels, Todd was filled with emotion; the fruits of his hard work in farming were not as satisfying as a single robbery.

Before returning, Rachel suddenly approached Todd and said, "Commander, the number of mutants in Twilight Town has now exceeded one hundred, which is the maximum number of mutants we can recruit in the surrounding area. To further expand the mutant population, there are only two ways: one is to increase Twilight Town's territory, thus broadening our recruitment scope; as for the second way..."

As the woman pulled a map from her bag, marked with scattered red circles, Todd looked at her with some confusion.

"Another way is to try to contact the 'hardliners' among the alien species..."

Hearing a strange word from Rachel's mouth, Todd couldn't help but ask, "'Hardliner'?"

Rachel unfolded the map and pointed to the red circles of varying sizes, saying, "The so-called 'hardliners' refer to those aliens who live in seclusion and don't want to be disturbed by others. On the one hand, these aliens may possess powerful abilities, and when facing organizations like heretic hunters or relief societies, they are fully capable of protecting themselves or even fighting back; on the other hand, for various reasons, they are indifferent to life outside the community, and even have feelings of aversion and resistance. Persuading them to join Twilight Town may not be a simple matter."

These mutants, possessing powerful abilities, live far from the world and dislike being disturbed. Todd touched the bridge of his nose. If he could really persuade them to join Twilight Town, it would not only enrich the laboratory's "ability pool" but also strengthen the "Inheritors" force.

Rachel continued, "To avoid unnecessary misunderstandings, I suggest that our side keep its numbers low during the first contact with the 'hardliners'."

Todd looked at the woman and asked, "That's no problem. So, where should we start?"

Rachel moved her finger to a red circle on the map: "There's a cave four kilometers south of here. According to the investigation, there's a mutant inside. Judging from her appearance, she's a girl of about thirteen or fourteen years old, and she can use the power of lightning."

Todd and the woman discussed the matter for a while and then made the following decision: he, Rachel, and Huggins would go to the cave to persuade the alien, while the others would escort the prisoners and valuables back to Twilight Town.

After completing the handover, the three separated from the main group and headed to the cave that Rachel had mentioned.

They found a secluded grove of trees outside the cave entrance, tied up their horses, grabbed their weapons, and Huggins lit a torch, leading the way, with Todd and Rachel following behind.

The cave was damp, and scattered animal bones were visible on the ground. The slope became steeper as they went further in, and the three eventually arrived at a room that resembled a large cavern hall.

Using the torch held by Huggins, Todd could see the entire room. The floor was covered with thick animal fur, and tattered household items were placed against the walls. The walls were covered with various charcoal graffiti. In the very center of the room, in front of a giant, naturally protruding stone table, someone had made several human figures out of clay.

Todd approached the clay figure, intending to examine it more closely.

A tender yet clear voice rang out from the other end of the cave.

"You're not allowed to touch my mom and dad!"

Todd looked in the direction of the voice and finally saw the alien girl that Rachel had mentioned.

This thirteen or fourteen-year-old girl had snow-white hair and eyebrows; her skin was also different from that of ordinary people, appearing flawless and without a trace of blemishes or pigmentation under the firelight; her pupils had a sickly pale pink color.

A girl with albinism.

This was Todd's first reaction.

But the girl's next move made him gasp in surprise.

In the dimly lit underground cave, many blue 'threads' inside the girl's body began to slowly glow. This light grew stronger and stronger, even overshadowing the torchlight.

The girl took out an iron arrow from her tattered pocket and placed it on her chest. Then she stretched out her arms, parallel to each other, and blue 'threads' under her skin, like coils in an electrical circuit, wrapped around her arms one after another.

As Todd watched the girl's actions, he felt that the scene was very similar to a certain weapon he had seen on television in his previous life.

After thinking for a moment, Todd suddenly opened his eyes wide, grabbed Rachel and Hudgens, pulled them to the ground, and shouted, "Get down!"

Just then, as the blue 'threads' on the girl's body grew brighter and brighter, crackling electrical sparks filled the air. After a slight tremor, the iron arrowhead shot out at high speed from the 'passage' between the girl's arms like a bullet, crashing into the wall of the cave and creating a hole 30 centimeters in diameter.

Todd watched this scene with a pale face, finally remembering the full name of this weapon in his previous life.

Electromagnetic railgun.
