Chapter 134 The Debt Collectors (shuhaige.net)

Morgan slammed his hand heavily on the ship's side and said in a deep voice, "The island where the 'Black Skull' tribe once lived was called Black Skull Island, but now it has fallen into the hands of the Claws, and we have been driven from that island to our current home."

Todd nodded and said, "I've heard Lev talk about some things about the customs of the North Island. Could you explain to me about the fighting and obedience of the North Island people?"

After a moment's thought, Morgan said, "In general, it can be described in two words: faith and tradition. Let's talk about faith first. The North Islanders believe in gods. They believe that the gods live in a place called Asgard, which is equivalent to heaven. In the underground world, there is naturally a hell called Niflheim. The North Islanders firmly believe that if a man dies gloriously in battle, his soul can enter Valhalla, the heavenly palace of Asgard, where the spirit of the warrior will feast, sing, and tell legends. If a warrior is born but dies tragically in bed, then he only deserves to go to the underworld to suffer eternal torment."

"Regarding tradition, the North Island people live a family-based life. Parents, children, grandparents, aunts, nephews and nieces all live under one roof. They are loyal to each other, and if a member of the family is wronged, the whole family goes to the tribal assembly to demand justice. If a man is killed, his family will most likely demand compensation in the form of money or land. If the tribal assembly believes that they have the right to make such a demand, the murderer's family will readily pay the compensation, and everything will continue as before; but if the deceased's family feels that the ruling is unfair, they will secretly kill a member of the other family, and so the cycle of revenge and endless feuds may become an additional tradition of ancient family lineages."

"If enemies meet at sea, the people of the North Island will follow an ancient tradition. We will tie our boats together, build a gangplank at the bow, and then take turns to fight one-on-one. Each person who steps onto the gangplank faces this fate: either kill all the enemies, or die in battle, and have their companions avenge them. If they are afraid, they can turn around and jump into the sea. No one will hunt down deserters, but those who give up their right to fight are no different from the dead, and even their families will ignore their existence. Therefore, the first one to go into battle at the bow is usually the most elite warrior in the tribe."

Todd listened to the other person's story and slowly nodded.

"Commander-in-Chief! There's a group of fully armed soldiers lying in ambush in the woods on the shore!" Edgar's shout interrupted their conversation.

Morgan looked into the distance with some surprise. Claw Island was still 10 kilometers away from the ship, and the scenery in the distance was blurry. How did they find those ambushers?!

Todd glanced back at Lev, who was clutching his head and trembling like a leaf, then turned expressionlessly to Hudgens: "Go with the original plan."

The knight nodded and loudly ordered his men to carry a sealed wooden box out of the cabin.

After opening the wooden box and flipping through layers of oil paper and lime powder, they finally took out six folded cloth bags, each about 40 centimeters square.

Haskins pulled out the retractable strap of the bag, waiting for the warship to sail to within 150 meters of the shore before lighting the fuse of the explosive charge. The knight grabbed the retractable strap with both hands, began to spin on the spot, and using the strength of his 'keel's' back and the high-speed centrifugal force, threw the lit explosive charge into the woods on the shore in a 'throwing hammer' motion.

Just as Morgan was completely bewildered, a deafening explosion came from a hundred meters away. The massive shockwave uprooted trees and blew seawater back toward the warship.

The chieftain of the Black Skull clan lost his footing and fell onto the deck. He watched as mushroom clouds of flame rose from the distant woods. A dozen warriors dropped their weapons and shields and ran out, their bodies ablaze. After burning for several seconds, they finally collapsed motionless on the beach.

Todd signaled for the warship to move forward and lower the gangplank.

The Grand Master of the Knights looked at Morgan, who was lying on his side on the deck, filled with fear and unease, and said calmly, "It's time to collect the debt."
