Chapter 153 The Battle of Beishi (Part 4)

The night at North Stone Fortress was silent. The guards squatted at the entrance of the armory, idly counting the stars in the sky, while they could hear the snoring of their captain beside them.

"This lousy job."

The soldier picked up a pebble and threw it forcefully into the distance. As he watched the pebble streak across the night sky, he suddenly noticed a strange movement in the air. It looked like a layer of transparent mist, frozen in front of him.

"How can there be fog at this time of year?" The unsuspecting guard glanced at the fog a few more times and was about to take a few steps forward. The next second, a blade, accompanied by the whooshing sound of wind, pierced out from the void behind him and slit his throat.

Before he could even let out a scream, a large amount of blood splattered everywhere like a fountain. The soldier felt all his strength drain away in an instant, and the darkness before his eyes grew heavier and heavier.

The 'reconnaissance-type mutant,' shrouded in a black robe, deactivated its 'mimicry' and 'stealth' abilities, picked up the soldier's corpse, and hid it in a dark corner. A wooden crate was placed at the armory entrance; the wooden planks were lifted, revealing it to be filled with explosives.

Ten minutes later, a deafening explosion, accompanied by a towering ball of flame, signaled the official start of the chaos in the Battle of Beishi.

In the camp of the Twilight Knights, Cumberland, fully armored, loudly relayed orders to his men. Seeing Todd standing before him in full military attire, the old man frowned: "Grand Master, you do not need to participate in tonight's battle."

Todd shook his head and said, "Just like you said during the day, a brave and skilled commander should ensure that the soldiers can see him at any time."

Cumberland sighed, turned to Huggins's "Successor" cavalry squad and instructed, "Your unit will remain as a reserve, staying with the Commander-in-Chief and protecting him at all costs!"

Looking at the troops that had just returned to join the battle after delivering the monks and books back to Muxi Town, Todd did not intend to oppose Cumberland's decision. However, under the cover of night, he counted the number of people in the 'Inheritor' cavalry squad and found that there seemed to be one extra person.

Inside the Northstone Fortress, Earl Hewlett, awakened by the explosion, hurriedly dressed and rushed to the hall, grabbing a messenger and asking, "What happened?! Has the enemy attacked the city?"

The messenger, his face crestfallen, reported, "Sir, the enemy hasn't attacked the city, but those barbarians..."

"What happened to those guys? Tell me!"

"They've rebelled!"

Hewlett, enraged, slapped the messenger across the face: "Nonsense! I've deployed a large force around the barbarian camp. They're just a small group, without weapons or armor, how could they possibly rebel?!"

The messenger covered his flushed cheek with one hand and pointed to the flames outside the door with the other: "Sir, it's not just the barbarian soldiers who have rebelled! There are also thousands of barbarian slaves. They've opened the armory doors and are now attacking the inner gates of the fortress!"

Earl Hewlett turned ashen-faced and stood frozen in place.

Inside the fortress, in the camp where the mercenary group was slaughtered, leader Tim sat on the steps, listening silently to the shouts of battle within the fortress.

His subordinate shouted anxiously, "Boss, those barbarians are about to break through the inner city gates. Shouldn't we go and support the Earl now?"

Tim stood up, picked up his axe, and spat on the ground: "Pass the word down, have everyone prepare their weapons, we're going to attack the North Stone Fortress's treasury."

What? !

Upon hearing their leader's order, the mercenary soldiers widened their eyes and cast astonished glances.

"Boss, attack the treasury?! Are you sure you're not mistaken?"

Tim laughed: "Does that count really think I'm an idiot? He can use barbarian troops to wear down the enemy's forces today, but tomorrow, to preserve his own strength, he'll send us to our deaths! So, we should also make some plans for ourselves."

The barbarian army acquired a large quantity of armor and weapons from the armory. With these tools of war, even the weakest children and the youngest women in the tribe gained the courage to fight the enemy head-on. For the desire for war and the preservation of their tribe were honors flowing in the veins of these barbarians from birth.

This force of nearly 1,300 men caught the fortress garrison completely off guard, and after half an hour of attack, the inner city gates officially fell. A tribesman asked Boyle, "Chief, now that we've broken down the inner city gates, what should we do next?"

The barbarian chieftain glanced at the plains outside the fortress and gave orders to his troops: "Capture the fortress's treasury as soon as possible, plunder it, and then withdraw from the fortress and head north into the mountains!"

And so, on this chaotic night, the fortress garrison, the mercenary bandits, and the barbarian troops clashed in the inner city. The three forces, like paint mixed together, created a chaotic and bizarre scene in the canvas of what is known as 'North Stone Fortress.' Meanwhile, the Twilight Knights, after breaching the fortress's drawbridge, encountered an unexpected enemy.

As Cumberland led his troops through the fortress's main square, a gigantic figure, seven meters tall, emerged from beneath the fortress. Its dark skin, along with its mutated limbs and organs, made it resemble a mythical ogre.

Todt reined in his horse, staring in astonishment at the strangely familiar giant. The giant's skin was covered in mottled patterns, and it had two arms, one large and one small, as well as a dead man's head embedded in its chest cavity, slowly being assimilated by flesh and blood...

Todd finally remembered who this guy was.

This guy is clearly the 'Inheritor Mutant' we encountered in Watchtower!
